The Dugout Canoe

Constructing and using a dugout canoe.

This video is a culmination of the Dugout Canoe Project; constructing a dugout with fire, shell scrapers, stone tools and metal edge hand tools under the direction of master woodworker Ken Koons.
The work took place during the Common Ground on the Hill tradition’s weeks at McDaniel College and the boat was tested on the Chesapeake Bay and Severn River.
