i really don't understand why everything has to be imitation, at this point don't listen to 90% of death metal, it's an imitation of reign in blood by slayer

Once the absolute fringe of metal, now the primal elder gods of a genre they created. I like that they've stuck to their guns with their sound, not forcibly changing their it as djent mutates around them.

Yeah, they definitely don't change their sound in a profound way, what they do is add elements to it and refashion those elements to fit into their own framework. Like the tremolo picking and note selection in this track sounds kinda black metal-ish to me, but then they reshape it with their signature bends and unconventional patterns so that it just sounds like Meshuggah. They're fucking incredible. The most original and innovative band in metal bar none, imo. Hard to believe these dudes are all in their 50s (apart from Lövgren anyway). Old enough to have grandkids, and they are wiping the floor with bands half their age. Long live Meshuggah.

Tomas Haake has a metronome implanted into every of his limbs
The monotone vox were a deliberate choice they made around Chaosphere era. Jens used to use a wider range but decided that a monotonous bark would suit the music. Essentially his voice is just another rhythm instrument.
Plus he now has more time to work on his faces.
And just being an awesome monster at 55 years age.

This is something I love about Cult of Luna as well.
at first the monotone vocal really turned me off for actually years, but now I like it. I think the tone actually gets better as he gets older. it's more smooth, has a lower pitch, and more distortion
Obviously collectively they are all pioneers but haakes drumming is backbone I feel, guy is a machine.
Haakes is god on the drums!
It's funny that Haake was actually late with joining the band. The band had already written some songs when their drummer quit and Haake stepped in. He said that he at first was very confused with the rhythms they were doing, but he practiced and went on to create even more insane grooves. Amazing drummer.

Beginning is 4/4 and most fans know they write in a 4/4 umbrella despite where the snares hit.
Imagine being so unrelenting as a band, for 30 years, having seen trends in metal music come, go, come back again, go again, and all the while you're still just putting out smashers one after another. These guys are a genre of their own.
Truely unrelenting is the best summary of that effect! "Immutable" is a fitting album title :P

Yeah the bass is zo full and heavy without being boomy, Just perfect
First time they’ve tuned the bass an octave below the guitars. Everything released before this had guitars and bass in the same octave. There’s some super gnarly low end in this mix and it sounds absolutely ridiculous (I mean that as a compliment lmao)

@@MarshTheDarsh hell yeah, only taken them nine albums. Might’ve been a shitpost but there’s an image of Dick using a bass with a .320 gauge string (it was definitely 300+) on it, meaning there might be a few songs on this record where “low” is an understatement lmfao

Been listening to them since Rational Gaze.. Koloss is my favorite album, and I can't wait for this album to come out, this one will be great, I just know it.

Between you and the new Ice Nine Kills album, one of my favorite all times, I can’t wait to get back into shredding. Carbombs vocals are so much more interesting. One reason I prefer them over meshuggah. Haake is a beast other than that i can take or leave meshuggah.

Absolutely insane brutal at you from the beginning in your face song. For me this is immediately one of my favorites by them along with Future Breed Machine, I Am Colossus, Qualms of Reality, and New Millennium Cyanide Christ.

This was a solid banger. Already anticipating this to be my favorite album of 2022. I'm a bit bias, they've been my favorite band of all time since Nothing which was twenty years ago already!
This one was a bit straight forward for them, though, so I am very excited to see what other crazy complex stuff they have up their sleeve for this release.
I've always seen Meshuggah as chaotic, not random. Love it with them.
