- This is the second piece of footage of Vickers machine guns of the 8th Battalion Middlesex Regiment, 43rd (Wessex) Division preparing and then firing in support of the Divisions actions on or near Hill 112 in Normandy, July 1944. It includes members of the platoon stripping and cleaning the gun, as well as putting it back on the Universal Carrier, before then firing the guns from their positions in the field. More information on the 8th Bn Middlesex Regiment is here: vickersmg.blog/in-use/british...

My late father was in the 43rd wessex division, like most soldiers he never spoke about it, until he only had a short time to live, the few things he told me he had been carrying around in his head since the war. Respect and thanks to all our allied vets.
Thank you Andrew. I hope you found the video interesting. My own grandfather didn’t talk about things either so one of the aims of research is to fill some of the gaps.
What Regiment was in ?
My late father too....
I once saw a photo of a Vickers MG section and the No1 was wearing a top hat of all things, I think it might have been the Northumberland Fusiliers in Holland.
Quite probably! Lots of top hats started to float around in those areas and it seems Guards Armoured (of which RNF were the Independent MG Company) had their fair share.
Thanks for this very detailed description. More please!
Thank you. We will do more these of the next few weeks and then make them a regular monthly feature so make sure you subscribe to the channel and turn on notifications!
Fascinating as always!
Thanks Marlon. Glad you’re enjoying them. Plenty more to come now we’ve opened up this avenue.
