This makes my 4 year old xps 13 look like a dream
HP = Compaq computers. The real HP died years ago.
All the original makers have gone through so many changes they are entirely unrecognizable. I started with PC gear with a brand label "IBM" PC XT. When Compaq and HP merged there was already new mgt and they were profoundly changing. It turns out it's too hard to build oneself their own laptop, so we who always build our own gear will not try this with a laptop, so we are interested in what's available in this area.
@@TheDanEdwards Very true.
Yep, the Compaq acquisition killed the quality of both lines.
JustJosh has a great review on the Omnibook. They're garbage and HP says there's a fix coming. They have terrible performance drops on battery vs plugged in.
@@MyRPgaming If you wanna buy a laptop to run geekbench then it is fine. For real world usage it is garbage
@@MyRPgaming Well no, actual tests as seen today in his stream. They suck plain and simple.
My first computer was from Smoke Signal Broadcasting Systems in Berkeley, California. It ran CPM on an S-50 buss.
I liked the look of this machine but the problem with this is it doesn't have force force-touch touchpad like a Mac and the lid doesn't open using a single hand.
Recently bought a HP Slim S01-AF2006NA Desktop PC for my boomer dad. Ran the updates and uninstalled a lot of the Windoze crap (couldn't uninstall McAfee) and it bricked the O.S. Recovery partition couldn't bring it back to life. Had to resort to downloading the official Microsoft Windoze 11 ISO and perform a clean reinstall from a thumb drive. Makes my 2013 Mac Pro feel like a dream.
I love touch screens. its useful when you're web browsing and scrolling
I got to thank you Alex, I was waiting for a lot of these reviews about the SxE/SxP chips and was pretty ecstatic to get one since they have an upgradeable SSD, but the prices swayed me and I ended up with an M2 MacBook Air - which considering your other review seems to have been a good idea.
Thank you for reviewing them all!
Gotta love the ‘IT professionals’ giving him stupid suggestions- might be the funniest thing I've seen in a while.
BTW, my Parallels Desktop v19 8 GB ram/4 core virtual machine on my M3Pro MBP posted a speedometer 3 browser test (using Chrome for ARM inside that virtual machine) of 26.9 test result. Natively on my MBP, Safari Speedometer 3 test result returned a 36.8 test result.
I came from the return video and i cant believe that they shipped a computer that is probably outperformed by an MT6580
In my opinion, HP should only make printers
And no one should buy them.
Then they sell you catridges at the same price as the printer itself. What a joke!
Also, years ago.
Now is - Brother , imho.
@@igo_ they shouldn't do that either
Can you install linux on the sd elite machine , you will the first one on UA-cam
It seems the main coverage today is of HP Omnibook with a Snapdragon X Elite X1E-78-100 processor (up to 3.4 ghz, 12 core). So, this is not x86 but an ARM implementation, which may factor into buying decisions. prices are around $1,050 as of 7/10/24. HP says under 3lbs, 26 hrs batt life.
Yes, but Asus Vivobook with same SKU CPU and 32 GB RAM works just fine. And it had zero bloatware, too.
I would really like to know, for how long Apple worked behind the curtains before taking the decision to move to ARM. Obviously it's not trivial to make the transition to ARM, even when buying some know-how from Nuvia (ex-Apple engineers) along the way. Thanks a lot, Alex, for your testing efforts!
Well they certainly did their due-diligence A LOT better than Microsoft did. They also bothered to include a decent GPU, which who would have thought, is also pretty important!
you use as you said on a call or on a stand that keeps it straight up its quite convenient to have full range
yes the new hp spectre
Obviously the windows is corrupted here. You need clean install.
Other than Norton install issues, mine came up without any issues. I was able to update everything.
The SMode, I believe, is a version of Windows that only lets you install apps through the Windows App Store. You should have been offered a choice of which version to install on first boot.
Lol, this is unacceptable. How did HP screw up this badly?
I got a base model Surface Pro 11 with the Snapdragon X Plus. Great performance and battery life. Obviously, some ARM teething pain, but it's good for what it is.
It seems like if you want a Snapdragon X device HP and Dell should be avoided right now.
HP and Dell (to a lesser extent) should be avoided always
Sorry i was late to game. Try disabling user account control, power off machine. Not just a reboot let it be off all the way for a couple seconds
I always miss these live sessions 😢 when is the next live one?
this was totally off the cuff. sorry
What to do with a display that can rotate 180 degrees (or flat) -- while if you are an artist and the display is compatible with an active stylus, working on a flat display for drawing is advantageous.
Can you show how to use this pc for train AI in python?
Hi, since you have almost all X Elite laptops, could you please check which of these X Elite laptops have upgradable RAM and SSD? How many slots are available on the motherboard for each model?
none have upgradeable RAM, so far it's only the Samsung Book that doesn't have upgradeable anything, i believe most have 2242 nvme ssds replaceable.
Only the ssd can be upgadble ram is soddered to the board
None. Lpddr rams are not upgradable lol
Thanks for all the responses. I got the Vivobook and upgraded the SSD to 2TB. Here's a tip, make sure you clone your old SSD. Installing Windows is a pain in the neck.
Do you think people return it due to the dim display? I would never buy a computer with only 300 nits in brightness.
Now we know why this HP notebook has one star reviews.
God damn it Alex, I always miss the stream :(
HP should stick to desktop printers and HPE servers.
Just buy a Mac M3 with lots of Ram, run Parallel’s with windows and now you have the best of both worlds :) My first machine was also a 486dx33 (it had a math co-processor) :D
waiting for M4
thanks for joining the channel!
Try a factory reset
I consider HP computers garbage in general. Computer company that sale computer or rent computers to corporations, regular user under a corporation cannot complain that much of their computer with IT department.
Try checking ot auto SR feature, comparing to dlss, xess and fsr
I had a hp specture once it was nice imho.
I wonder if you still remember Project Volterra. I’m curious how it has been improved with the new Windows ARM version.
I still have it set up. Yes, X Elite blows it out of the water. I’m still waiting for my x elite dev kit so I can make a video comparing them, but maybe I’ll skip ahead and just compare with a laptop
A LOT years ago I have an HP
waiting for Thinkpad T14S Gen 6 Snapdragon
Thanks for sharing the experience or we would have wasted our money on this crap too
this was painful to watch. I had heared about the firmware bug with battery performance on hp x elite but didnt imagine it was this bad.
If you could put your bet on one platform
Would you put it on lunar lake or 2nd gen x elite with some e cores along with p cores
Second gen Snapdragon
I couldn't install Norton 360 or My Norton Utilities Ultimate. Not compatible. There is a thinner version of Norton called Norton Security available in the Microsoft store. I suppose that and the built in Micrsoft Defender Antivirus is enough.
All the Norton products are super notorious. I'm being weak in terms here - using euphemisms. Most PC experts deem all Norton and McAfee products hell spawn, and something to be immediately removed from equipment that comes into their care. There are quite a few great options for anti-vir, or anti-adware. Defender is okay for some of that. The other stuff around "optimizing" are bogus and either useless or actually destructive. There is an entire world of utilities out there and great tools can be had from FOSS sources - stuff like Belarc, or Crystal Disk Info, HWinfo64, REVO Uninstaller (use this not Norton; gets far better reviews from people doing this all the time; getting rid of McAfee would be a great test of REVO). Of course you make your own choices, but most of us are willing to help with guidance where we have stumbled in the past and learned the hard way.
i have the samsung trying to get use to it but mine takes time to connect to the wifi which in know the new am waiting on the new asus proart p16
Damn, a lot of (let me put it nicely) people who have no idea what they're talking about suggesting you random stuff. Turning off a system service, searching for S mode in the store (lol wuuut).
That was clearly a bad install, idk what the fuck HP is doing. This is a clear example of why you always do a clean install after buying a new device. Could have been McAfee, no idea never used it.
My hp is brighter in linux, mybe it is problem of windows
That hp have some kind of hardware problem. Probably the ssd. I had something similar with an acer some years ago
Put Linux on it - some support is already in the latest kernel
There is little interest remaining in Snapdragon X Elite laptops since the hype didn't match the reality.
S mode is a limited version of Win 10 or 11 which strips down features (allows only Edge as browser, allows only MSFT store apps to install) and makes Win hardened against security intrusions installing payloads and such. If you actually were in S mode you would get out of it via a selection inside MSFT store. Since you installed Win Subsystem for Linux I'd really DOUBT you are in S mode.
Opening many instances of Powershell and Task Manager is not very impressive. I get it you were frustrated, but one of each is all you really need
After watching this on UA-cam. I have a feeling you got a broken unit. I have a cheap hp chromebook from Amazon. I have a regular hp i5 12th gen pc laptop with iris graphics. Compared to this you purchased. This is a rocket for basic usage. These 2 laptops are both from hp. I never seen this before how that device of yours behaves like this.. There isn’t something right to begin with. Even for an x elite machine. Where you have a few in your collection.
the best computer to hammer nails
They still can't beat the Macbook! Its like they dont want to try!
that shit hanged like 3vyear old laptop
@@bhaveshtamboli546that shit hanged like an ancient pc that’s been through both world wars😂
It's behaved this because you trying to uninstall mcafee 😂😂
average hp experience
Funny calling out Dave Plummer (he is on YT; everyone should check him out; he was a programmer at Microsoft back in the day and he is funny in addition to telling us a lot about programming, networks and tech). He would have had a good running version on his old ARM machine. After a reboot, if McAfee is still there, I'd install the regular REVO uninstaller, and try using that to rid yourself of any Norton or McAfee on there.
Snapdragon X Elite 🔋🔋💪🔥
hi, Alex, is snapdragon x elite laptop is better than gaming laptop regarding for a student studying for AI and Machine learning
Brother what are you talking about?
This was so painful to watch, HP is dead
these type of shitty companies are making windows look bad and shit
As if Windows needed help.
@@TheDanEdwards better than gayos which cant even manage windows properly even snapping
even if the computer wasn't shit, did you see that setup? windows died in 7 and the only good version right now is 10 enterprise.
Watching from dual core cpu and 2gb ram 32bit win10 🤣 lagging pc. 😭🤣🤣
Mcaffee is the worst!
Hp it's not compatible even with Hp, as the say reads 😮
that's probably the worst 1000$+ laptop ever existed...
HP makes terrible printer, with programmed obsolescence and firmware locking them to their toners, and locking their printer if you do not print enough. So you don't get to use the printer you paid for as if it was your printer. If you don't print enough, their toner will expire after a set time, even if it still has toner in it. They even have a print as a subscription service, so you have to keep paying them monthly for the privilege to be able to print with the printer you already paid for. Crazy, a printer firmware locked and controlled by HP even after you paid full price for it.
HP computers are dogs except for the workstations.
lmao
What a sh*tshow lol this must be the worst experience ever
Looks like the laptop is running with CPU with 2 watts 😂😢 You just got a fake HP laptop 😅
HP = Hinge Problem
hinge was the least of the problems
Hardly Processing
So..... hp is trash?
This will be a flop to Microsoft like when they bought Nokia, only to fail miserably.😢
Another useless pice of hardware ))))
Windows is shit
winget list
should show all installed software, find if of mcafee than
winget uninstall mcafee-id
Nikola Tesla birthday
IBM XT. COMMODORE 64. We were hot stuff when 286’s came out. And if you had a math coprocessor your were “the man”!
