    As again, brilliant review. Being a radio amateur myself, I was very troubled by a frequency coupled antenna. As it is not a physically connected antenna, any benefit is purely speculative. Thanks.

    That was a good test , we know that particular part of the estate proved troublesome for the mavic mini. Would be nice to see a long range test again with the yagi on. Keep up the good work gav

      I would love to do one, but the only place I can do it is rural areas and the standard battery is only good for 4km as we know so not enough to test the yagi really as the mini 2 did that without one

      Alex Alex ir right. Yagi antennas are for range. They are directional antennas witch means the beam is less wider then the original setup. You will get more signal straight ahead but less signal on the sides.

    If the Mini 2 gets interferred with, adding a better antenna on your controller wouldn’t solve the problem. I think the yagi would only possibly show improvements in a line-of-sight range test with no interference.

    • @GAVINHR
      @GAVINHR  3 роки тому +2

      If the Yagi directs and concentrates the signal then you would expect it to do better in my opinion, the drone was in line or sight as explained earlier I rotated myself to ensure the antennas were facing the drone at all times 🙂

    I bought a yagi with a reflector dish because my mini 2 on dual band and auto channel will fly out to about 600 feet and then the RC signal goes orange and then back up but I’m flying in the country where not much Wi-Fi is here but there’s lots of trees that are not super tall but about 75 feet or so and I get trees refract signal but I just don’t like seeing signal drop that quickly and I’m facing the drone. I’m wondering if I should do 2.4ghz and auto instead of dual band.

    How do the Yagi Antennas work at all? I cannot imagine that they really work as there is no metal connection to the antenna of the RC controller, the Yagi antenna can only be fixed with its plastic cap and will therefore probably not be able to transmit the signal to the antenna of the RC controller.

  • @KaylansDrone
    @KaylansDrone Рік тому

    It's not the interference that a yagi will help with, it's the distance. Yagi Uda antennas give directionality. You get more gain in a certain direction. Assuming the reflectors and directors are positioned correctly in respect to the driven element in the controller, you WILL get more distance before the signal drops off. When pointing in the direction of interference, it might actually be worse because you have more gain in that direction.

    Yes yes they do …the 2.4ghz help better then the 5.8ghz for range ,the 5.8ghz works better for cutting through brush and trees and the 2.4ghz is a farther traveling signal but weaker ,5.8 is stronger but to a shorter range anyway DJI does a fantastic job with there transmission technology better the let’s say FIMI or Hubsan so unless your in a area blocked by trees then the yagi’s may not do much extra for ya

      Just finished a test flight minutes ago. Urban range test from my house (which I've done dozens of times before). Yagis trans set to 5.8. Lost signal completely at 5800 feet. Decided to push on but this time I wasn't going to limit my altitude. I was guessing that the further out one goes the signal is going to get sliced off in relation to the horizon. But in order to compensate you just have to fly higher. Well it was a complete success! Reached my cool rock outcropping on a mountain and had no problems getting there. Went 10713 feet and at a max altitude of 1150 feet.
      Lived in LA my entire life and after my parents someday are gone I'm seriously thinking about moving out. Not what it use to be. Maybe one day you'll make it over here 😊

    I think yourself and everyone else I see testing these antennas fail to realise that as you hold the controller the left hand antenna is 2.4ghz and the right hand antenna is 5.8ghz(I have stripped the antenna section to check this and that is why internally the antenna connectors are labelled to match the white and black wires) to use the yagis properly you have to put a 2.4ghz on the left side and a 5.8ghz on the right side.Your channel is still none the less informative.

    • @GAVINHR
      @GAVINHR  2 роки тому

      Tom, thank you for your comment, however there is an issue with it, the uas only broadcasts on 5.8 / 2.4 at any given time not both therefore it wouldn't affect performance by using one of each.

      @@GAVINHR
      Yes I know you were only using the 5.8ghz band but if auto was selected and both types of Yagi fitted then the internal electronics would select the yagi with the best reception on a real time basis,when transmitting on 2.4ghz only the left hand antenna is used and the right hand antenna when transmitting on 5.8ghz,never both at once,so putting a 5.8ghz yagi on the left hand antenna achieves nothing(the left hand antenna is a 2.4ghz dipole the right hand one is a 5.8ghz dipole )

    Yagi Antennas are also more like a SNIPER RIFLE TYPE AIM at the drone, not as forgiving of poor controller placement and antenna slightly down, up, side to side, you must be dead nuts. PARABOLICS on the Mini 1 are excellent, wide sweeping and much more forgiving of poor aim. Mini 2 does not have Yagi antennas on board the aircraft and you could potentially fly your drone out of its receptive range, RTH would hopefully save the day. Or make it a one-way journey and hike. Cheers!

    well your conclusion is 100% wrong. the yaggis did stay on all 4 bars when the normal was dropping down 1 and 2 bars. the mini was well in the orange a fair bit before the yaggis.. so the yaggis did give better signal all the time, other than when they were both close to base.. you need t ogo back and watch your own video gavin as to me and everyone else watching this the yaggis definitely did a better job.. now go do a distance and watch the yaggis realy perform....
