I'm 76 years old didn't have a choice started collecting at 62 and kept working until l was 72 diabetes and liver cancer paid into the system for over 50 years years and this is what get they can send our resources all over the world for wars but can't give us a 200 dollar raise so we can live with some dignity senior's will put money right back into the system

Now remember. Not everyone gets the same amount for retirement. Those who paid the most into the system will still get the biggest check. Everybody is still paying a fair share for the amount drawn.
I'm on disability insurance. I was disabled young, but I still earned enough to qualify. However, I did not earn for a long time. Therefore my benefit is smaller than a person who worked decades, then became disabled.

Reality is the average age is much older than ever before. Elderly is the majority of the population. Period. And they need to rais the S.S TAX of wages to pay for the elderly population. Also social security needs to be updated big-time for living expenses , rent, MEDICAL EXPENSES, food, any extras elderly needs. Are 250 times what it was before covid. That is the main reason elderly are the fastest growing population become homeless. And living in cars across America.

They can do both. Do what Sanders says and grandfather the younger out.
The only compromise I see with the cap is since many of these high earners are self employed after a certain point allow them to pay the 6.2 percent instead of the full 12 percent. This should happen at the bare minimum 12 percent should be paid to say 285 000 yearly.

Many people especially young people don't realize the standard of living for the whole country will implode if SS is cut. Get ready to have your elderly indigent parents and grandparents move into your house.

The more Social Security Retirement is talked about is great , but also the talked about the more worry on seniors minds. Future SS recipients will be more likely to start taking at 62 hoping they get at least a few years in. Then when our officials get off their fat asses and do the work we pay them to do and all gets fixed ( hopefully) , those that chose that 62 date are forever at a low income . The more fear they produce , the less that will go out. Is that their goal. Seems to be how they work . They will wait til the 11 th hour and then miraculously do something , in the mean time so many signed up early .. just like the claw back. So many sold their homes to pay it back and now they are forgiving so e .

I was on SSDI and when I turned 62 they automatically put me on retirement. I didn't make that much but my hubby got cancer and went on SSD when he passed I got mine and 1/2 of his which came out the same as what he made so it didn't matter which way I went

I have a solution to the Social Security shortfall funding problem. The US stock market trades about 5 trillion dollars a year. The derivatives market trades about 56 trillion dollars a year. These people are speculators not investors. They do not hold their investments for long they just based their investment on price movement. This would be a good sell for congress because you are not punishing investors but Wall Street speculators. Currently 60% of derivative trades are taxed at long-term gains 20% rate and the rest is taxed anywhere from 0 to 37 percent. If you made all those trades taxed at the short-term tax rate instead of the long term tax rate. Also put a 0.2% transaction fee on all transactions on derivatives markets. This would not tax or punish upper middle class or higher income workers. I think this would be a very good sell for Congress and have a good chance to pass Congress and the president, because after all it was the derivatives market in 2008 and 2009 that blew up the economy and made the Federal reserve monetize about 10 or 12 trillion dollars worth of debt. They are the ones that should pay this because they benefited from the monetization process of the Federal Reserve !
