Ole is a fairly common Norwegian name as is the last name Oleson or Olson.
Now, in Spanish, olé (oh-LAY) is an exclamation of approval, encouragement, or victory. It is often associated with bull fights as it is shouted by the enthusiastic crowd as the bull passes the cape of the matador. Olé plus Bull - but that’s just a weird coincidence since Spain and Norway (where violinist Ole Bull was born and died) are very far apart and the languages are not at all similar.

But he did write a Spanish tune, so maybe he did visit Iberia after all.

So good to hear you guys like the raw footage! Hopefully we still have the da salo- will go digging!
And the cure for a squeak fest is always, ALWAYS more bow! Make sure you’re pulling straight down, and remember, never think pressure in the bow- it’s all about weight and utilizing your arm’s gravity. Hope that helps! :)

I love hearing the history of the instruments. Of course hearing them played is the best part but it's cool to hear about their journeys it's like a real life The Red Violin...without the stealing part, well for most of them anyway. 😂🤣🎻😍

An interesting instrument, a lot of power and a broad range yet I have heard others that I like a lot more. The one that Katha plays has more attack and is probably better balanced. For the sound engineering folks, a lot more middle to high frequency transients. None the less I am sure many people like the "Ole Bul" and it is a very competent instrument. You guys are fun to watch together.

Hmm. A bit disappointed in the tone - it sounds a bit hollow compared to the Vieuxtemps and Paganini del Gesus, but - it could be many factors, like what work has been done (or not done) on it over the years. I know Bull did most of his own adjustments, but who knows what it was then and what it is now, and who did what. bass bar, sound post, lots of things - but it doesn't seem to project a focused sound.

Yes, the 'Guarneri sound' is eminently available. Not for nothing the Guarneri is the best violin for concert hall soloists. Only the very best of them are able to obtain one. You should not take the girl's apprisal all too seriously. It will take months and months to pla a good Guarneri properly.
