New to the NWA area from SE Texas! Been watching you for a while and finally close to some really great trails. This helps out so much! Hope one day to do some trails with you! Thanks for the video!
i watched your first part video im very new at gaia maps, and new to overlanding, i have done trails in colorado but not overlanding. i was wondering when you plan a trip how many miles of trail you plan before looking and marking a camp spot?
Hey, I have just found you and I enjoy watching your videos! I was wondering if you could share with me your entire GPS set up... equipment also please and thank you!
Matt, I'm confused. In your Gaia Basics video you said you do not use Areas. I've been trying to figure out how then to download a map of an a portion of the USA such as Arizona for offroad use so I don't overwhelm my iPad. Is there a difference between an Area and a Map? If so, how do I define a map so I can download?
Great video as always. Can anyone tell me if the Map Layer map description and LEGEBD are available on the ios version (12in" iPad) I can't find it. Maybe only on the web version?
@@OzarkOverlandAdventures Thanks for your timely response. Yes, already watched your layers deep dive. (Twice). I have no problems on desktop but tearing my hair out on iPad I can’t follow you along as my display is not the same as yours. My menus items (current location arrow, layers, and control to open or close sidebar)are all at bottom left There is nothing above the status bar at the top. So, no four arrows symbol at the top left. My version is latest (2023.9). I’ll contact Gaia directly.
@@OzarkOverlandAdventures yep. I was just going to reply. Checked revision history on App Store and saw that version 2023.7 changed layout. Again thanks for all the hard work to provide such outstanding content.
Thank you Matt, before the pandemic hit wife and I visited Benttonville Ark. Only dislike was the long lengthy main streets with left right turning lanes. No traffic breaks means long wait times along with hot-dogging across two lanes into parking lots. YUK! Need a jeep for the that rough stuff. 😸😸 I’m a total newb here on tech mapping, how does GPS work in our apple devices? I tried testing my iPhone by enabling GPS location tracking, but nadda. No love for me. Also, is there any sort of outside GPS antenna needed on my vehicle? Or? Does the user leave the iPhone near the front glass on the dash?
I only use my iphone and it works great with Gaia. No extra antennas needed. It works just like it does for Google Maps or Apple Maps as far as knowing where you are.
My wife and I would like to plan a trip to the Ozark area in Arkansas for some light trail riding with our daughter and grandson . What area ( may I ask) are you from? Where coming from northeast Missouri
I'm in central Arkansas but go to the Ozarks regularly. A great place to take your family is the area around White Rock Mountain and Cass, AR. Lots of great camping spots there along the Mulberry river and most of the trails are very mild and scenic.
We want to plan a trip where we can spend a few days on some trails where you won’t have to have a winch. We have his and her jeeps and unfortunately we’re going to have to take hers because mine is not built for the long drives lol just trails. We have a 2013 rubicon we will be in and was wanting to stay in a hotel room and be able to hit the trails too
Mike we are of similar interest. Single vehicle exploration only pulling our Teardrop trailer. We are using an unmodified GMC 4X4 Canyon AT4 with stock suspension. I refer to my rig as mild to barely moderate rough road only pickup truck. I don’t intend to become hopelessly high centered having to stress about extracting issues. After 50 years with 2 door jeeps, I still miss them.
Appreciate all your informative vids as well as your entertaining / trip vids. I have a question if tou don't mind. When leaving cell svc and gaia is up, will it automatically transition to your offline maps or should you already be in your offline map folder?
One thing that is a big annoyance with Gaia when working with folders is the ridiculously tedious repetition such as the example you gave making the 3 routes and the waypoint. You had to one at a time manually select then enter each item in a folder. When creating a new route or waypoint, Gaia should have an option to immediately add it to a folder of your choice when you create it. Also, same thing when uploading tracks or waypoints you might find on the internet. Gaia does not allow you to tell it where to put the track. Instead you have to go find the track or waypoint that is now downloaded and once again manually add it to a folder. Secondly, Gaia makes an additional folder with the name of the track(s) you just downloaded. After entering the track into a folder of your choice you now have to track down the empty useless folder with the original name that Gaia created and delete each and every one.
I agree, coming from BCNAV XE the tedious Gaia file structure is a PITA. When downloading files, you should be asked were to save that file. Not just throw it in the general bin. Wish Gaia and BCNAV would join forces to create the best mapping app without the 1000 point limit. BCNAV doesn't have this restriction.
Super helpful. Much appreciated, and I look forward to meeting you at some point on some trail, enjoying life.

Thank you very much!!
Another GREAT Gaia walk through. Just what I needed. Thanks!
Thanks!!
This is so helpful. I'm an android user, hopefully will be able to get some use out of this app! Thank you Matt.

Great stuff, Matt! Gaia should pay royalties to you.
That would be awesome!! LOL

I just use my phone or my iPad mini with Gaia.

I prefer downloading maps. It's a lot more effective. Once you click the download maps button you'll see how to select the area you want to download.
How do i hide all tracks and show maybe 2-3 tracks only? Ty
Check out my Gaia Advanced video. I cover that I there.
@@OzarkOverlandAdventures Do you have a link to that video? Thanks

@@fletcherbrown728 ahhh yes Gaia released a UI update late last year and moved things around. I plan on making a video on the update soon.

Thanks Matt. If I want to add a customed map of my countary dessert map (e.g. for Saudi Arabia)as a layer, how I can do that? Appreciated.
Add a map layer that isn’t already in Gaia? I know how to pull in Google maps but not sure you bring in other maps.
I rephrase: how to pull in google map? Appreciate
I don't have the public tracks button under the map overlay. Just curious if you know how to turn that on i have premium
Figured it out public tracks button only on pc not tablet 😒. Added them on pc now there on tablet a lot to figure out for not to computer person 😉
Glad you found it. Yeah I wish they had the public tracks on the mobile app too.

How do trails in Ouachita NF compare to Ozark NF?
Jimmy Anthony Much milder than the Ozarks. Lots of dirt roads and not very many technical trails. Still lots of pretty places though.

When you have maps downloaded it will automatically use them. There's nothing for you to do or worry about when you lose cell signal.
Great info
Glad it was helpful!
Very helpful, thanks
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you. Everyone shows how to build routes but don't show how to navigate in real time in the field.
You just follow the route line.
Maybe if u share a track, make the pic u save of your mode of transport

Music volume 1000, voice volume 12...
Yeah I could have tweaked that a little better. 😂
