  • Here's an easy way to fix your ice machine at no cost to you. This fix can work for Ice machines such as as Scotsman, Manitowoc, Hoshizaki, and more. It worked well for me, hopefully you have some luck with it too.

    I've had problems with my ice machine for a long while, finally it got bad enough something had to be done. (it is a Manotowoc and has been good to us for many many years) It would often only drop half the sheet. Everyone seemed to think it just needed cleaning. After cleaning the heck out of it, looking up many solutions on youtube, and trying multiple fixes, even wiggling the squares to see if any were loose..... no luck. Still not dropping ice properly. Finally after seeing this video I decided to tap on the rows with a hammer... I noticed some rows on the right side (the side ice was hanging on the most) moved a little. I grabbed it with my fingers and was able to pull and push it in and out a little. I used your idea and tapped an X to 'crimp' it in place.... I was no longer able to move it with my fingers! I went through all the rest of the rows checking them for loose or gaps (ice freezes behind the gaps preventing the drop)
    One added tip: I used an LED flashlight (one with about a 4 inch long wide array of LED's) and held it under the rows. If there is a gap in the row you will see the light shining through the crack from the lower level. I found areas on the edges mostly, but using the light I found a few areas through the middle that also needed to be 'tacked down'. Now my ice machine is working the best it has in years! Thank you for posting this!

      So glad to hear that it worked out for you and the ice machine! I know that when I was searching for solutions there weren't many options other than replacing the Evap plate and it just wouldn't have made sense to put that kind of money into the unit. So this fix has done the trick so far and has been working fine for me. Glad to hear that you're back up and running!!! Stay frosty amigo!

    I am so excited to try this! I have a soda fountain at my home and I have been banging the horizontal slats back into place like every single day growing more and more frustrated because they keep slipping out and causing the ice not to drop and caking onto the evaporator plate. As a commercial refrigeration tech who has worked on many a ice machines... I can say this is a secret to buy more time for your machine. I've done this in the past. You can also remove one horizontal grid section if one becomes too loose. The ice in that section will just be larger.
    There are also magnet positioning hacks you can perform to extend harvest. :) think about it and it'll make sense

    • @ThisThat007

      Hello and thanks for watching! It’s all about buying time, I’m interested in this magnet trick you wrote about. I understand the premise but how would someone go about actually doing it? Have a good one!

      What is this magnet fix

    • @BartSimpson-nr1dy
      @BartSimpson-nr1dy 11 місяців тому +1

      There is no magnet trick. Those ice cells are stamped and manufacturered out of copper. Plus the whole assembly is nickel plated. Once the copper plates shift, you are also eating the material used to fuse the plates together and the nickel which is highly toxic to the human body. Nickel to the ice machine evaporator is kinda like the non stick coating on pans of years ago. As long as the coating stays on the pan, life is good. When it fails and you eat it, that's when the trouble begins.

    • @BartSimpson-nr1dy
      @BartSimpson-nr1dy 11 місяців тому +1

      And I might add, if you try extending the harvest time, the controller will shut the machine down. Everything on these ice machines are controlled by timers and relays in the control board. I work for Scotsman. If you have any questions , feel free to ask!

    I have Scotsman MV606 ice machine. Its continue shoving alarm red light. After evert 3 cycles. Because its take more than 3.5 minutes harvesting cycle. Production is very less. I have struggle 2 weeks to identify the root cause. Try many ways to find the problem. Finally I found this valuable video. Next day I check the evaporator uaing with a led light. each box one by one. I found many of the small cube boxes in between plates passing the light to next box. Because plates soldering is opened. I try the same way with screw driver & hamer. All the open boxes fixed with proper tight. Then no more light passing to next box. Once done it my problem solved. Ice making cycle 12 muinuts & harvesting cycle is just 2 minutes. Good production, no more alarming. Thanks for the instruction given by this video. Its really working with good benefit.

      Bummer! Sorry to hear that….what kind of machine are you working on? Sometimes you can find another on marketplace that is broken for a different reason and can then swap parts. Not sure that I’d trust a Chinese brand for this due simply to the fact that you can’t know/trust how it’s made and with what materials….especially for making something that you consume. Best of luck on your quest!

    • @was1069
      @was1069 2 роки тому +1

      @@ThisThat007 ya its more soldering than brazing. i use a brazing torch to do it. make sure you have it clean and plenty of flux or it will pop off. but i pin it at the same spots as you did just with silver/tin solder instead. tin bonds to tin well right🤷 but the do basically the same thing when they make it. except they only mond it at the back to make sure the solder doesnt bined up the ice. so u must make sure that there is not a blob that will hang up the ice in the grid.

    The horizontals slats can be pulled off. You have to pull it from each side and keep it even on both sides. I’ve had a Scotsman’s machine that is missing 4-5 rows. Been running fine for a couple years now.

    We are having problem with 2 flashing it seems like it could be the two white sensors by the white door but it's a fine line between bin is full and the 2 flashing so maybe I'll try this

    • @ThisThat007
      @ThisThat007  3 роки тому

      Those 2 white sensors tell the machine that the bin is full when there is a sheet of ice holding the white door open. Once the sheet falls and the 2 sensors make contact again then the ice machine starts a new cycle for ice. The number 2 error code in most machines applies directly to a long harvest cycle…that should be completely different from the “full bin” light. There could be a number of reasons for a long harvest cycle… But the easiest way to tell is to fiddle with the plates on the evaporator and see if they are loose… If so then this little hack will help. Either way good luck! And thanks for watching!

    • @ThisThat007
      @ThisThat007  3 роки тому

      Ok gotcha….could be a couple of issues with that but the most likely in my opinion would be that the condenser on the unit is plugged up and likely not getting enough air through it to make ice any longer. Usually a pretty easy fix… You just need to get a decent HVAC tech who doesn’t rip people off to come out there and acid wash the condenser down. Shouldn’t be more than a $100 or $200 bucks and you’ll likely be back in business. Hope this helps!
