as a seahawk fan, my only issue with riq is his attitude towards tackling. other than that, i think he had a pretty good year in coverage despite being targeted 5 more times than last year per PFR I’d like to see him get more physical as well, you think mike can coach that in him? love the content btw
His shoulder injury led to much of the poor tackling…he hasn’t played defense for very long and this was his first big injury….as he felt better about the shoulder his tackling got better later in the season…
@@brianmyers4444 i guess i didnt think much of his shoulder injury at the time, but i’d love to see him fulfill his all pro potential under macdonald so im all for it
Awesome video! Would love to see more of of what mike can do with some of these Seattle dawgs. I think the Seattle secondary is gonna be easily top 3 even in year 1 with coach mike.
I think Mike Macdonald will drill the dog mentality into him. Seattle doesn’t do contact at all. Ravens are just built different. When they put on full pads in camp it’s game day. Having that can help a player like Woolen. It shows a lot of thing early before the season even starts. The penalties were costly. Some were warranted and some were not. I feel like his hands to the face penalties come from him being big and always matching up against a massive WR in Metcalf in practice so his aiming point is going to be naturally way off. I’ve seen corners with that issue. Practice translates to game. In terms of coverage he’s only going to get better. He hasn’t even played 5 years at the CB position yet I feel like he’s in good hands. Great video as always
I do think there's a tendency for casual fans to overstate the impact a single coach or scheme can have on professional athletes. I do believe that certain mindsets are hard wired, so you can't realistically take a player that shies away from contact (Woolen) and turn them into an aggressive and physical tackler along the lines of Richard Sherman. Hopefully MacDonald and staff will maximize Woolen's output while minimizing his liabilities, but we'll see. And can we please retire "just built different". It's so god damned lazy.
Both Walker and Woolen had extremely great rookie years! As did JSN, Witherspoon, Charbonnet and Oluwatimi! All record breaking players!! Pete Caroll had a crystal ball when it came to picking players!! Amen! I'm going to miss him so much!😢 but. I'm so excited about next year with our new coaching staff. Go Seahawks!!💙💚.
Great breakdowns I’ve watched several. What do you think of Jamal Adam’s this season, was he hindered by nagging injuries? Was he used incorrectly? Was it a combination of both? I’d love to hear your opinion
Feel like the discrepancy with number of penalties on riq with the reported dpis is that he got called for a number of illegal hands to the face. Not sure if you accounted for that. Thanks for the breakdown
I think in 2022 he used his speed to mislead quarterbacks a bit more. Dropped back a bit then used his speed to catch back up and make some amazing plays.
It wasn't so much the number of penalties that was the problem, it was the circumstances. If memory serves most of Riq's penalties occurred on third down with the Haw's defense looking to be in good shape to get off the field.
The other penalty that to me is on the coaches are the hands to the face from Woolen. Happened multiple times. No way that isn't going on in practice and is a technique thing. If he's stabbing in press man up high (he's a tall guy so has to be careful) he needs to be coached up on it.
Richard Sherman was the same. I think he could be good in man with better technique but his instincts allow him to leverage his instincts to be more of a playmaker. I think Witherspoon can match receiver much better than Woolen rite now but he’s also more of a playmaker when he can read and react. Guess we’re gonna run alot of zone.
I HATED when the Hawks wore the "Retro colors". I kept thinking we were watching the wrong game on tv😅 That boring blue and grey..yuck. and the Hawk on the helmets just looked like a bird from a Totem pole. Big round eyes... no. I love our more fierce looking Seahawk on our helmets! Our colors are AWESOME!💙💚💙💚
wonder what this defense will look like in its first year.. i doubt it will be perfect. big scheme change. we can play 3 safeties.. maybe if we have them. Im praying we get Patrick Queen and maybe draft another great young LB to develop. Bwagz, Jamal, Diggs, Brooks all play like shit together.

Half those penalty's were unwarranted.
Would love a Devon Witherspoon video.

Karl Scott is still the DBs coach, no change there. Might be new points of emphasis though.

Riq needs to change his name back to Tariq. I’m pretty sure the name change caused the slump.
