Soooo, the perfect Mini Recon Mothership it is. Fly over enemy territory, drop off two Dragonflies midflight and pick them up when they're done with their sortie. In the meantime, the Cutlass provides Air Surveillance and do low-budget AWACS shenanigans.

If I remember correctly (and yes, I'm a bit late to the game), the ROC didn't come out until after this video was made. The Greycat ROC fits great, both forwards and backwards, and makes the Cutlass Black a great way to quickly do some ROC mining and get around (or away) quickly.

It and the Steve came out a bit after this video was made. You can fit 4 STVs total or 3 comfortably, or 3 ROCs almost comfortably but 2 is recommended.

Something that can be useful in some situations... If your cargo only takes up one layer, you can 'hop' a dragonfly through the side door on to the top of the cargo. You may be able to hop two on but I have not tried that.

The Side Ramps NEED a simply, basic ladder. Nothing event remotely complicated, just a few rungs!
Great piece! I've been strongly considering melting or upgrading my Cutlass Black to a Cutlass Red, being able to carry a vehicle is a key reason why I haven't yet done so.

red can fit a mule, but as far as driving to a bunker and returning with someone to put in the beds the mule would be tough so your only option is the ptv with 2 seats.

So, best mixed-load potential I'm seeing here (barring unsafe/glitchy shenanigans), is one Cyclone in the Starboard forward position, two Noxes (Noxii? Noxen?) to Port (easier walk-through access than if the Cyclone were on Port side), and a Dragonfly in the rear. That's with the 6 side-wall jump seats usable. That's actually pretty impressive. Makes me wish all over again, that they'd made better use of the potential space on the Valkyrie by comparison. (But that particular shortcoming was a sore spot right from the start.)

Seeing the cutlass makes a lot of things frustrating.
For instance, why is it impossible to load even a greycat onto a Reliant kore? More than enough floor space, but somehow the ceiling is too low... (greycat isn't exactly tall, so how come it's still too high to fit?)
All the issues with the freelancer and it's rear turret...
The almost intentional looking issues with Origin ships in general.
Eg. no 300 series ship can carry a vehicle, even the 315p in spite of it having 12 SCU of storage.
The 600i with touring module being unable to even carry something akin to a single X1 or the like feels a little off as well, when you think about the kind of ship it is... (sure we don't know how big an X1 actually is yet, but it's not hard to infer from the ship's current design that you won't be able to get one onboard...)
Some of these ships just feel like they've been gimped on purpose just to artificially create distinctions that don't really make sense...

    • @austinm5630

I can say 3 things about this:
      1) The MAX is extremely sluggish. For a dropship (or cargo ship) this may not matter much, but I would not want to try flying a MAX into an active warzone under fire. Even with its single shield, I'd rather be in the Cutlass in such a situation. Or...
      2) The Freelancer DUR can hold an Archimedes or Merlin in the back and launch it without issue, but cannot hold a Cyclone (it will go in, but not out again without some extreme glitching against the door struts.) A MIS has the exact same rear section as a DUR so you might consider that once the MIS is for sale again, and the MIS is also an outstanding missile boat and gunship that punches well above its weight and can clear a LZ full of light vehicles with its missiles all by itself.
      3) As to the MAX, I have seen several people say that it can hold an Ursa. In my own (limited) experience, I could only put the Ursa in the MAX by powering off the Ursa's turret, which makes it retract. With the Ursa turret on, it WILL snag the MAX's own rear turret and it will NOT fit. This is a non-issue if you're just using the Ursa to explore in hostile environments (especially relevant in 3.9) but could be a real problem in combat as you try to disembark the Ursa then power its guns and lose several important seconds unable to return fire, especially since the MAX is worthless at clearing the way for you.
tl;dr the MAX is arguably the best cargo ship in the game right now (obviously the Cat holds much more, but there are other factors to consider besides raw capacity) but I would NOT use it as a dropship. Thus, either get a MIS if you want a Merlin/Archimedes carrier that can also handle grav bikes, or get the Cutty if you absolutely require Cyclones.
Personally, I don't like Cyclones that much and I've started using my Archimedes for claimjumper missions. It's surprisingly good for them! So I'm transporting it there in my DUR and it works great.

      @@austinm5630 That's an interesting observation.
Makes me curious about the hercules.
Obviously that ship is on a VASTLY different scale, but it's official primary purpose is dropping vehicles in hostile conditions. (OK, so that's not the C2's purpose. but the C2 is a stripped down version of the military ship that trades defense for extra internal space)
Can an M2 genuinely fly into hostile space and drop off several nova tanks and a ballista and then fly off again?
      Makes you wonder... XD

    • @austinm5630
      @austinm5630 4 роки тому

@@SpudyGun i went from aurora starting pack to upgrading to the max and then the argo mole, after trying all of these with much anxiety i decided to go small with the cutlass black and i must say my anxiety reduced. Cargo hauling of that size was not for me or soloing a multicrew mining ship xD i found them very sluggish and high risk.
Multirole was the way to go but on a smaller scale as i could fit a ROC in the back of the cutty to do some mining which was what i wanted aswell.

Oh and if you’re not concerned about maximum carrying capacity and just want to have easy access on and off the ship, I had an easy time sliding a dragonfly Into the side doors from the outside. It’s a slightly bigger profile than the ramp, but if you hold spacebar it will push your gravlev just enough off the ground to slide right into the door. This way it’s quick to slot into the cutlass and very quick to unload. Your even even able to paradrop the bikes by flying low to the ground and just riding out on the bike. Don’t worry about hitting the ground ‘too’ hard as the gravlevs are naturally sturdy and will take quite a bit of bumps before showing damage.

I don't know if its possible, but it would be cool if the grav bikes fits in a more Y like pattern, You sweep in, go into a hover, the pilot can press the "open exterior" and then everyone takes off in different directions and the ship goes a straight upwards VTOL exit directly after.
Depending on if they fit comfortably to pull off such a drop I doubt any other dropships are going to be able to do anything similar.

Since I am grooming a player character to be a mechanic and ships engineer, work and walk around space is very important around any stored vehicle. It's hard to impossible to gain access to key areas of a vehicle to be repaired. From a simple repair of a tire, working on the under carriage to working on top mounted vehicle weapons. If you don't have the room, you ain't going to be able to do your job. All vehicles need their own generous room around it.

5:15 people should try that... cutlass black flies low ram open and both drivers ram the gash (drive them in backwards) it would be neat if that could be done without blowing up the cars on drop while flying :D that would be 8 people (one in the cutlass turret) dropping in :3
it would make fun cinema shot to have two cutless blacs each with two sets of cars with 3 people in them ready to go and escord of 4 other one man ships dropping it to zone where you have people shooting from ground and 6 ships trying to prevent them . . . kinda like role playing dropping the cars on hot zone and making it cool video with group of ~30 people or so . . . it could be neat :D

lol. It can get out of hand huh.
You ever tried to count how many seats and beds are in a 600i?
      I did.
Long story short, if the server cap is 50 people, you can get almost all of them onto a 600i without asking anyone to stand.
      Long version:
(from memory, so may not be 100% accurate)
      The rear area has:
      - 3 seats at dining table
      - 2 seats for TV
      - 2 Seats around pool table
      mid-deck seating:
      - 2 in small seating area
      - 8 in large (the large seating area looks like it could hold about 10-15 people, but it's got explicit seating for 8)
      Upper rear deck:
      - 2 at bar.
      Total in rear: 19
      Crew deck:
      - 4 beds
      - 4 seats; one near each bed
      - 2 seater in escape pod hallway
      - 2 seater in changing room
      - (2 toilets)
      Captain's cabin:
      - 2 people on the bed
      - 3 people on the lounge
      - 1 person at the desk
      - (1 toilet)
Totals for crew areas: 18/(21 with toilets)
      Bridge:
      - 3 stations
Total for shared parts of ship: 40/(43 with toilets)
Since there are two possible modules, the explorer, or the touring,
the next depends on which module your ship has equipped.
      Explorer:
      - 2 scanning station seats
however many people fit in the vehicles you're carrying. (min. 6 if it's an ursa)
      Touring:
      - 6 in the lower lounge
      - 4 in beds. (they are double beds, but only coded to allow a single person)
      - (4 on toilets)
      Total: 10/(14 using toilets)
This puts the bare minimum capacity of a 600i at 40 people.
And if you have a touring module at least 50 people.
(57 if people sit on the toilets)
And this is accepting that some areas that would constitute valid seating in the real world are artificially restricted ingame...
      Yeah...
I dread to think what even bigger ships, such as an 890 jump can carry...

I have to wonder about the future intentions of cargo grids and the consequences of stuff being on a cargo grid or not.
Just because, for some ships it raises a LOT of questions.
Take my one larger ship 600i touring.
This has, for some strange reason, 10 distinct cargo grids which hold 2 SCU each. (technically only 8 of them work. For some inexplicable reason two of them are permanently unusable.)
This only gives 16 SCU of space.
    OK, sure.
But now consider what else is on the ship.
The captain's quarters are full of small, loose, unsecured objects. There are clothing racks all over the place that again, don't look like they secure things.
Then there's the kitchen and bar, which have dozens upon dozens of loose, more or less unsecured items in them.
What happens to all the bottles of alcohol in my bar if I do a quantum jump, or a violent turn in combat?
    Does that smash everything?
What about the stuff in my cabin?
How about if I leave a delivery box in the hallway?
You see what I'm getting at?
What makes the cargo grid special, and knowing that it IS special, why is there so much unsecured stuff in a ship like this?
If I ignore the cargo grid and start stacking cargo wherever there's space I could easily cram another 100-150 SCU on top of the 16 SCU it can officially carry.
Frankly, given the size of the ship and the amount of floor space, it wouldn't surprise me if I could load 300 SCU in there...
But this is all 'unsecured' cargo.
    And that seems hazardous.
Yet if stacking a few extra cargo containers in an unsecured location is dangerous, why is it OK to have a cabinet full of glass bottles with nothing securing it in place?
Or dozens upon dozens of food containers in the kitchen?
I mean, I know at the end of the day it's a game and perhaps I'm overthinking things, but at some level there seems to be a degree of logical inconsistency here...
Something which only becomes apparent when you have a ship full of random stuff that isn't part of a cargo grid.

Honestly, 6 Nox's vs 3 Dragonflies is probably a draw on DPS too since the Dragonflies can have 3 gunners on the rear seats with an Animus or Scourge. The real benefit to 6 Nox's is that you give your enemy twice as many targets to shoot at.

    • @KuraIthys

      @@louiehorwood660 I doubt they'll be that harsh.
I'm more inclined to think they'll define a size for each vehicle, then give each ship that they intend to be able to carry vehicles one or more 'vehicle' slots that specify the maximum size they can store.
It's also possible they'll define each vehicle's dimensions in SCU (including any clearances they'd reasonably need) and let you spawn them only if you have an empty spot on your cargo grid that meets the required volume. (eg, this vehicle is 3x2x2 SCU, so you'll need a space at least that size free of any obstruction to spawn it.)
I could be wrong of course, but creating an explicit list of what you can and cannot spawn seems like a bad way to implement things...

      lol. Depends on which version.
I'd be midly curious what can fit in the explorer, since I have the touring.
But if you're talking about what fits comfortably in the touring?
      The answer is... Nothing.
However, I DID manage to get a greycat onto the forward passenger lift.
And surprisingly enough it's a near perfect fit for that alcove near the bridge that provides access to the escape pods.
I've successfully transported a greycat in a 600i this way.
The trick is what happens when you try and unload it.
So while, with some persistence, I've managed to load a greycat onboard, park it, and get out of the greycat, I've never successfully unloaded it again at the other end.
Of course, the touring variant for whatever reason simply isn't intended to carry any kind of vehicle...
As for the explorer, that's a more interesting question in general, especially given how the 600i's cargo grids are built... (mostly wall mounted rather than floor mounted.)

What fits into an 890 Jump?

Hopes and dreams and salty tears. For real though the cargo bay of the 890J is HUGE, I think any small or medium fighter will fit, idk about bigger than that. It can also capture asteroids from space too lol.

It's not pretty looking, but it works. 👍💯

Good to know. I swapped my black for a red and even though the red has the really useful med functionality, I still miss the black. Silly but there it is.

Ships should have a snap grid. Simply get it close to the point and the object should snap into place. I know this goes against the free do whatever you want world but it would solve a lot of the issues with cargo, vehicles, etc.

Excellent video, very informative. Thank you.
Now that the ROC is out (robertsspaceindustries.com/comm-link/transmission/17661-Greycat-Industrial-ROC) and it is being sold as a package with the Cutlass Black (robertsspaceindustries.com/pledge/Packs/Roc-Brawl-Pack), can you tell us how many ROCs can fit into the cargo bay?
    Thanks in advance LAWoftheWest!

I'm already taking footage for a "if it fits it sits" video about the R.O.C. but I can tell you straight away that it can easily carry one R.O.C. and two if you park them one in front of the other. It can also fit three if you have a good driver doing the parking for you.

@@AuroraGameStudios Have all Freelancer types and I can say it may look boring but they fit their job perfectly. Especially Max as awesome for cargo runs. Also my MIS packs one heck of a punch. But Black (with upgrades) is probably one of the strongest.

I don't understand why anyone talks about using a ship as a "dropship"... what content have you ever seen that involves the need for a dropship? There's nothing in-game to do on the planet's surface... All existing content is easily accomplished by a single person... in fact, by having other people in your party you'll probably experience bugs that would make your goal impossible to accomplish due to party-related bugs.
