    I've heard so many people say they have heard of people having trouble with the BRS stove
    But I have never heard of any one that actually uses one having a problem, in fact I hear nothing but good. I own one and can't imagine carrying any other except my alcohol stove. But alcohol is hard to find along the A.T. Ok for short trips ✌️

    • @603POV
      @603POV 2 роки тому

      Can't convince myself to buy another stove because they're all heavier than my brs and the only issues I've had with it so far I caused myself, like using it to cook with a real pan in windy conditions which is the ONLY time one of the arms bent. Brs ftw

    Hello Brad , I also have a 2004 CRV , but mine is FWD… I’m having a problem choosing a power inverter for the (Accessory Power Sockets) aka Cigarette plug’ I have one on the front panel & one in the rear… The only info my service manual provides is the Following details ‘’’’ (Accessory Power Sockets, These sockets are intended to supply power for 12 volt DC accessories that are rated 120 watts or less (10 amps).
    To power an accessory, the ignition switch must be in the ACCESSORY (I) or ON (II) position.
    When both sockets are being used, the combined power rating of both accessories should be 120 watts or less (10 amps).
    These sockets will not power an automotive type cigarette lighter element.) … I hope you can help me because i can’t find a plug-in inverter that meet those spec’s … thanks Louie…

    Curious why you wouldn't just add the 2.9 oz. Sea to Summit mosquito net shelter for 12.5 oz. combined weight instead of sending for your 14.75 oz. Solplex? Would be easier/cheaper to ship, too.
    Thanks for a very informative video. I hadn't heard of that pillow before. Good luck on your hike!

    • @intheopenair3725
      @intheopenair3725  3 роки тому +3

      This is a great question! Here’s my reasoning: It’s going to be quite buggy in Colorado and Wyoming which is why I’m then ditching the tarp. After much use with the Sea to Summit nano net, I’ve decided that the vertical walls of the Solplex and the interior space they provide are far more beneficial and important to me than saving 2.5oz’s and using the, more often than not, saggy bug & borderline claustrophobic bug net.

    • @lvm3487
      @lvm3487 3 роки тому +1

      @@intheopenair3725 Ahh, thank you! I was kind of wondering about that with the nano tent, not having owned one before. I had previously considered the Zpacks Pocket tarp w/doors, bathtub, and nano, but I am fairly tall and read some things about it not being the best solution for a taller person so I moved on from it.

    • @intheopenair3725
      @intheopenair3725  3 роки тому +1

      Dont get me wrong, it’s an amazing tarp and bivy combo. But during mosquito season, I’ll always opt for a tent.

    I saw your inside cooking video. Why not just add a small board on top of your bed and put your stove on that.
    No mattress to move. Might be easier. Just a thought.

    You have a great UL setup. However, the SOL breathable bivy is basically the same weight as you Borah cuben fiber one. The SOL has the silver reflective liner, so it will keep you warmer. I use a 3 oz. cuben fiber asym tarp over it. Just ordered the 7x9 cuben fiber flat tarp from Zpacks to make a double wall tarp setup to eliminate condensation. Really nice backpack - never heard of the company but eager to look them up. Enjoy your hike.

    • @intheopenair3725
      @intheopenair3725  3 роки тому +2

      Thanks very much! I believe you’re incorrect about the bivy. I’ve used the SOL and woke up soaked from inner condensation. It’s made of Mylar (the silver reflective liner) and designed for emergency use / why it’s so cheap. Mylar is not breathable at all. No bueno for daily use. But hey, HYOH 🤙
      gearjunkie.com/camping/gear-review-adventure-medical-kits-bivy-sacks
      From article above: “One caveat: Both these bivvy sacks are made of non-breathable material, meaning they get clammy if sealed tight around the body for long periods.”

    • @PhoenixGenesis
      @PhoenixGenesis 3 роки тому +1

      @@intheopenair3725 The SOL bivy you are thinking about us the cheap Mylar non-breathable one that does cause condensation. I use the expensive breathable ones - $60 to $120 and do not have that problem on the PCT even without a tarp. I did a test last night in my grassy yard with high condensation last night and it was dry. I made a video and will upload later today. You can see my 2016 PCT Sierras videos where I used a $1O Mylar tent that I used as a bivy and was dry during a week of rain. With those, you have to be careful not to breath into them as that will cause condensation while you sleep. For my thermal SOL bivy, it has Velcro vents at the footbox. You probably sleep hotter, so you might be over-insulated and sweating at night and/or were in a more humidity hiking environment. It is very dry here in the desert section of the PCT.

      Nice, a fellow PCT’er! I hiked it nobo in 2018. Pleasure to “meet” you. What’s the brand of these more expensive versions you’re referencing? I’d love to check it out. Cheers!

    • @PhoenixGenesis
      @PhoenixGenesis 3 роки тому +1

      @@intheopenair3725 I might of met you when I went SoBo in 2018 when I flipped. The Yosemite Fire and Mammoth Fires ended my trip that year. NOBO again this year, leaving in a week. Every year, getting more UL. Both the breathable bivys are SOL brand. They have them at REI. For the Mylar space blanket, if you duct tape it to the inside of your tarp, away from your campfire and duct tape your polycro on your campfire side, you get the heat retention igloo/greenhouse effect, super warm. Using expensive and cheap gear, I think both can work and it is just experimenting out in the field. I’ll sub to your channel and catch up with your trip when I return from mine. Good luck and happy hiking!!!

      I’m currently hiking the CDT with it. The longest stretch so far has been 6.5 days. Total weight on that first day out was probably 21 lbs or so. But you eat constantly, so your pack weight drastically reduces from day to day. I’d say my average pack weight is about 14 or 15 pounds.
