    Description:
A huge benefit of using joins in Tableau is that we can combine data from multiple tables into a single table for analysis. When those tables are in different databases, it can be a little tricky to work out where to start. If you know how to join tables within the same database, that's great! Cross-database joins only take a few more steps to execute, and I'll walk you through them in today's video.
If you're unsure of how joins work in Tableau, then the best place to start is with the "Joins" section at the beginning of this free webinar ( • Joins, Unions and Blen... ) and then come back to this video - you'll get more out of it that way around!

Thank you for this! I wasn't able to make Tableau join datasources, and you pointed me in the right direction! Wish the UI would be improved as I kept using the topmost button and not getting the outcome I wanted.

Great video.. when we do cross data source join, can we use relationship instead of join? Also can i set live connection when i do cross database join/relationship?

Hey! Yes, cross-database relationships are set up in a very similar way to cross-database joins, and that connection can be set to live!

Can cross database joins be performed on different databases like SQL Server and redshift?

Absolutely! There are a few types of data sources which aren't eligible for cross-database joins but 90% are. Redshift and SQL Server should work together!

If I want to create a connection using a text file as a proof of concept, can I go in later and change the connection source to a Snowflake table later?

Not with one-click unfortunately. You'll have to reconfigure the cross-database join. However, if the fields names stay the same between the two sources, the references in your Tableau worksheets shouldn't be affected after swapping out the tables.
