I’ve used your channel as my continuing education for my last interview and saying you provide real world scenarios and up to date techniques for the UI/UX industry. I did get the job by the way.

Mike. I'd like to thank you from the bottom of my heart. Last week, I started my first UI/UX Design job at an agency. I've been watching your videos from the beginning when I was just getting started and you were the one that inspired me to not pursue college for design. I worked my tail off and it finally paid off. You've been the most relatable, honest person out there speaking on line about this stuff. This video is so true.

ahh, i have a ux/ui designer interview tomorrow with no portfolio, background, i applied due to personal interest and have nothing to showcase. I've been terrifeid about it and anxiety has been piling up becuase I feel like i won't be good enough compared to my competitors who have outstanding profiles.
im so glad ive found your youtube, this video really helped me feel better and hopefully I could show them that I am the person they would like to wokr with because its a passion of mine despite the lack of experience.
    thank u !!

After 50+ applications I finally actually got my second interview in the UX Design field ever. The first one lasted 2 minutes after she asked if I had specific experience designing salesforce. Going back to this video now. Its in 3 hours!

When they ask if you have any real project experience. If they don’t have experience working in a tech environment - get them to look at all the other positive qualities of this candidate.
Don’t be ashamed. Don’t feel like they re laughing at your because you have no experience.
NO I don’t but I’m looking forward to learning as much as.I can and working with the product development team and engineers and seeing this project through. Ive been watching a lot of UA-cam channels of prominent people in the industry talking about the ins and outs of seeing a product through. I’m really looking forward to working on a real project and using all of the other assets I bring to the table. I’m a quick learner and I’m very excited to get started and apply everything I know into a real project.
I do have graphic and web design experience working on real projects. I have worked with startups and helped improve their brand voice and increase engagement.

  • @ProGamer-vv7ef

Well, I wish employers would be as considerate as you mention here in the video. Unfortunately, the reality is that they outright reject you without even contacting you for an interview based on your lack of experience or during the phone conversation they just cut off the interview process by telling you they are not interested to move forward in the process because you don't have that golden number of years in your resume that they want to see. If you are not from the country, then it's more worse where they don't even bother to ask anything further after knowing that you are not from around here.

I have a good portfolio, revised my resume 5 times, got bachelor + certification in UX, got 6 months internship, got 1 year contract work and I still cannot land a full time job. Wtf do they want from me ? I'm so tired of interviewing. Wanting to work shouldn't be this hard. I am considering bank robbery now 🤣

Hey Mike...very smart advice selling yourself. Just joking...thanks for giving that boost I needed. I have to disagree with you on this one. Here in England it always bogs down to look your experience and nothing else. I have experience in other IT field not UX but still that is not taken into account. If all recruiters were like you and not thinking short term then I would have better chances and them seeing beyond and recognise my potential. But I keep going and looking while on another job. On a plus side, a friend needs my assistance on building his website for his new company so I can now add that to my experience. This hopefully boost my chances for getting into UX. Thanks Mike you are a star.

i'm 22 & just plunged into the world of UX/UI design and i'm a little anxious bcoz i cannot wait to do some practical work and gain hands on experience. your videos are seriously gem 💖. And nobody better than a UX designer can answer this question which i want to ask and i.e whether coding/programming is essential for a UX designer? i have done plethora of research on google and have found out that having basic knowledge of HTML5, CSS3 and a little bit of Javascript is enough for a UX designer, is it true?
P.S: i seriously don't like coding and programming but just learned above 3 languages for the sake of it.

  • @supisarak.941

What about if it is quite a saturated market and a lot of UX/UI designers are furiously competing each other to get the same job from the same company. And you are the one who has less experience (you are the newcomer)? - How can we overcome that? - From what I have experienced so far, a lot of hiring managers or hiring agencies don't really care about you, they care about filling in positions (agencies). I find most of the time, they don't care how much passion you have and your journey. But more to experiences. - It would help me a lot to deal with it if I know good solution to this! It is how the market in my country (EU) is right now and I plan to find a job in UX design in the next 6 months or so (now I'm studying it). Thanks.

Pretty sure saying you wanna "learn" in an interview is viewed pretty negatively. Employers want to hire someone that can do the job. Bad advice here.
