    You completely changed the way I treat my boots. Sadly, I never thought of the respect I ought to have for the people that made my boots. Thanks for the video man

    The first time I conditioned cowboy boots, I made the similar mistake of using Bick4 Leather Conditioner on my distressed Ariat boots and it darkened the distressed look permanently. It said does not darken leather but I didn't read the fine prints. Bick4 has a special conditioner for distressed, roughout, suede.

    Great to see how this conditioner performs. Nice that it can be used to remove built up wax. Looking forward to seeing your final opinions on these boots and conditioner after wearing them.

      Thanks. I have high expectations for the conditioner and it will take several weeks to be sure it is as great as it seems. The boots did lighten with wear today. We will see.

    So whats the verdict on the Kali Conditioner. Have you tried it on Caiman or Pirarucu?

      It’s all I use now. I have used it on caiman, gator, bull, elephant, goat, calf, and bison. Just a fantastic product. I would put it on my website if I could get them to answer the phone lol. Thanks for watching and the comment

    I would like to add that the Saphir Renovateur is mainly for calfskin leather. Leather that’s common in dress shoes. For goat leather or the like Saphir MDO oiled leather conditioner would be a more appropriate product. The creme universal is also mainly for calfskin although it can be used for multiple different leathers.

    I bit the bullet and purchased my 1st. pr. of cowboy boots: Tecovas (The Wyatt Pecan full quill Ostrich boots) I thought I would give them a try and I went to a casino all you can eat sea food buffet and dribble hot butter on the left boot (4 pretty large spots)the spots look black on the boots. Didn’t notice this until I got home. I’m very disgusted with myself! Is there a way to get those spots off without ruining the full Ostrich boots??? Note: I did buy some Boot Barn Exotic leather cleaner & conditioner months ago, I've never used any cleaner/conditioner before and don't want to ruin my new boots. You seem to know a lot about cowboy boots. I need you thoughts. Thanks

    I’ve used Bick 4 for 10 plus years. It’s a good choice. Just don’t deeply condition leather if you live in a dry area. My second favorite conditioner is Blackrock Leather N Stuff. It’s does wonders to the leather but should only be used every few months of heavy use.

      Bick 4 is an adequate conditioner, I have used it, and it may be the best thing for some things. I am on the hunt for a high performance conditioner, and the cleaning power of the Kali is fantastic so far. I’m not done testing but it’s outperforming in several areas so far. These are my opinions based on using higher end products. Wax and polish seem to create a barrier bick doesnt penetrate well, there is a noticeable softening of the leather with Kali even with polished leather. I will be testing to see if it will penetrate without stripping too. I have a list of other high performing conditioners I want to try, both waxed and unwaxed.

      @@CowboyCartelGive Blackrock Leather n Rich a shot. I think it's the best stuff on the market for deep conditioning. It should just be used sparingly.

    I just started testing a small area on my Cuero non-distressed Cherry Cavalier boots with Bick4 Leather Conditioner, and I saw some color transferred to my white cloth. Is that normal? I haven't conditioned these boots since I bought them, and they looked nice, soft, rich-colored, and shiny. I don't want to make them worse by conditioning it. Should I stop?

    My Ariats have a stiff shaft and my Justin’s have a shaft that’s like putting on socks. I honestly prefer the stiffness of my Ariats. Easier to put on in my opinion.

    • @CowboyCartel
      @CowboyCartel  Рік тому +1

      I agree there is a need for a stiffer shaft. I think the problem I have with the ariat shaft isn't the stiffness, its the feel of the leather, or the quality. It has a weird stiffness compared to traditional boots. A synthetic quality that's unpleasant. Thanks for the comment and thanks for watching.

    How did those dry down after a couple days?
    I have some light colored Rujo goatskin boots coming and was wondering how much a conditioner will cover up the character of that leather. The stuff I use (leather milk) darkens enough to blend in scuffs even after it's sat a while, so maybe the thing to do is break 'em in with no conditioner and put some on after a couple weeks.
    Good thoughts on respect too. We overlook that with most of our modern stuff. I learned that lesson the hard way as a kid and now I take a lot of pride in maintaining my boots, firearms, antiques, etc. It's work, but it's enjoyable work.

    Hey there - I can't find the video on the final results. Did the leather lighten back up after the conditioner was fully dried or did they stay as dark as they were at the end?

    • @CowboyCartel
      @CowboyCartel  Рік тому +1

      I know I did a follow up on that, but I can’t remember where, it was either on a short or on the podcast maybe. But the boots did lighten up and go back to normal, but it took about two days.

    What’s up with the boots review. We need a pirarucu review. A black jack v toe pirarucu would go great with those 500x American u like wearing.

      We have been working really hard on the new school, and some other projects. we actually have the studio set up that we could do boot reviews now, but I never was very good at talking to the camera. There are other great Boot Reviewers on here and I kind of let them do it. It is something Conor and I have discussed, and I was just looking at the new Lucchese Pirarucu boots this morning. They arent the best looking boots I have ever seen, but a BlackJack version would be nice!
      Thanks for watching and the comment, we will see what we can do.

    Important take away from this video : " Always check for spiders in your boots 😳"
    Haha just joking, enjoyed the video 😎 Curious on your opinion on the Chisos conditioner they sell on their website ? ( if you've tried it )

    • @CowboyCartel
      @CowboyCartel  2 роки тому +1

      The problem with their conditioner is it’s a wax conditioner. There is already a leader in the industry at a competitive price. Saphir Medaille d'Or Renovator amzn.to/3C8bH1h there is nothing that can stand up to it in terms of shine and conditioning. The problem with a wax conditioner is it builds up and you need to strip it to condition properly. This works fine for a dress shoe or a boot you want to put a high polish on, but if you want a mat finish or even just a gloss finish with little work you need a good conditioner without wax. The best part of the new Kali Leather life I am testing is you can use it to condition and strip off old wax. You would just apply it as I did in the video and wait 3-5 minutes and wipe it off to get all the old wax off. Then apply and let it sit over night. If you want a gloss finish that is easy to care for after this for between conditionings you can cover the whole boot in SAPHIR Creme Universelle amzn.to/3Am7wxM which will buff to a great shine for months. Not a fan of someone trying to recreate the wheel, and then putting a ridiculous price tag on it, which seems to be a theme for Chisos. Thanks for the question.

    I received my first pair today. My first pair of cowboy boots ever. Customer service is outstanding, but the product is very poor quality. I had sliced marks on the side of each boot. The right boot had a deeper slice where if I really pushed, I would’ve poked a hole in it. I cannot recommend this brand. Very cheap. I purchased a Tecovas at my local store and there is such a huge quality of difference between the two brands.
