@@Positivetimes79 you have to go through a dealer, but will have to order from a high volume dealer like Jobe’s,Best Hat, The Hat Store, Double R, etc. to see it this year.

@CowboyCartel i was wondering cause Conor said that they do shape hats for customers sometimes. So probably celebrities or sport stars. You have to be someone special. I'm glad you got to experience getting that 1000x. That's a awesome experience glad to be able to watch it was great.

Great video and great info. For me, the custom hat is more than just the Conformateur fitting. I love how you can pick a custom liner and band that has your name. The things that makes the hat unique and yours. The X" rating? Now that's a true gimmick. I don't trust and won't buy any hat from a brand who is not transparent about what their felt. Stetson being one.

Every "X" is an arbitrary number until you have a frame of reference. Your statement is irrelevant and shortsighted. The fact is, the industry has adopted an obscure numbering system that they collectively decided represents something in relation to the products they sell. For example, 100x should mean pure beaver, and anything above that signifies something in addition to pure beaver. Brands like Stetson, Rodeo King, Larry Mahan, American, and many custom makers use 1000x to denote pure belly beaver blended with exotic fur-mink for American, chinchilla for Stetson-along with features like a gold and diamond buckle set and an extra finishing step. If you want to be mad at someone, talk to Resistol. They started this in the 1980s with the 150x George Strait hat and continued with a 200x hat that was lower quality but included a gold and diamond buckle.

@@brocksamson7164 interesting observation, we find it different here. 10x is usually minimum with most being 40x or 100x. Thanks for the comment.

The Resistol Pure is now $3000 retail and the crowns and brims are coming out of the factory very soft. Unfortunately Resistol has let the quality slip. The hats from 20+ years ago are still factastic.

​@CowboyCartel Funny, I've heard same about American. Like Fords and Chevy matter of opinion. Guess nothing's the same quality as 20 years ago.

@mattvalade2609 I recently compared 6X Stetson and Resistol hats while shopping for a new hat... the Resistol left me underwhelmed... but comparing the new 6X Stetson to my 20'ish year old Stetson 6X I could tell there is a difference from before 😞

@@foodtechtoyreviews it’s nothing new. Look at furniture, the stuff my grandmother had and even my parents would need a second mortgage if you had to pay for that quality today. They just don’t make anything like they used to.

There are no regulations for x factor so you can put whatever you want on a hat. The fur manufacturer uses a true 100x system and always have. a 2x hat is 100% rabbit and a 5x is 5% beaver from the body manufacturer. When wool hat manufacturers start putting x's in their hats the hat manufacturer had to adjust to distinguish their hats from other, cheaper hats. A 5x in a store is an all wool hat, but has no business putting an x in the hat to begin with. This is a long story, probably should sub to the channel and we will do a detailed video in the future. When did it go over 100x? When Resistol put some mink or cashmere in a 100x and called it a 150x for George Strait in the 80's, or when they put a real gold and diamond buckle on a 40x and called it a 200x. Higher x over 100 show additional value over all beaver. But unscrupulous companies don't give a shit and sell whatever because no one is calling them on it.

@@CowboyCartel I pay less attention to the amount of x's in a hat than I do to the feel and look of a good hat. When you feel the stiffness of the brim, the fit and the looks, you will know, if you have ever worn hats. I'm 74 and have had a lot of hats!! When you thump a good hat brim, it will make your nipples hard! ;)
