there is a Macaw at a pet?garden store near me. And she only lives alone at the store. Every time i visit her she has a small bowl of seeds (cheap parrot mix) that is mostly empty and a tiny dish of dirty water with her own faeces in it. She has no fruit or vegetables, no toys, no bedding, no company. When i visit her, i ask if i can fill her water dish and i sneak her fruit and safe nuts. I have asked the owners if they would consider selling her, they refuse and are getting suspicious with my concern for her. When i leave she waves her foot, a trick she has obviously been taught however it sadly appears she understands the meaning the gesture coveys. I don't understand how the pet store owners who have a large supply of bird toys and information material at their disposal at bulk price who stand to make so much profit from the customers the bird attracts cannot part with the food and toys she so greatly deserves. I cannot figure a way within the confines of the law that i can save her, but its cathartic to see that other birds are rescued and this gives me hope.
Technically she can report them but requesting the bird from the police may be difficult for her as they don't know the relationship between her and the bird, but take a few pictures as evidence that may help your case
Aww. Poor macaw. 😭😭😭 I'd report the store to the RSPCA. They might be able to rescue her. I hope you'll succeed in helping her. Taking photos as proof will help as well. They'll come in handy when you report the store. Take photos of the poor housing, lack of variety in her diet and the physical state of wellbeing. This should help your case a lot.
One of my local pet stores has an Amazon parrot. It's been there for a really long time and it's locked in a small cage near a window. Maybe I would try to rescue it if I had enough space and resources or at least a properly build house so the bird wouldn't get sick because of all the mold and holes which let cold air through.
Isn’t it amazing that Mia and a lot of other neglected birds are forgiving and adapt to new and more positive situations! Love the way you narrated this story and looking forward to the continuation!!!! Thank you for loving birds the right and proper way, the way every owned bird should be!!!!
Yes! Of course it is easier with such a young bird, but even adult macaws can be trained. Sure, you need experience and be prepared for the upcomming bites, but when something "clicks" and they adopt you, all of the efforts were worth it.
I love this video. I’m so happy for Mia. I just rescued an umbrella cockatoo 3 weeks ago today. I really wish I would have captured his progress like this.He lived with an morbidly obese man who only feed him fast food by throwing it on the bottom of his cage. Like Mia he was a cage bird only. His cage was filthy and infested with roaches. Luckily he never developed and plucking problems, but had some major tryst issues. Never a biter, just would pull away from humans hands. He has really come out of his shell. He’s so loving and silly. Surprisingly, he’s very independent for a cockatoo and not as nosey. Than again it’s only been 3 weeks. Lol!!!! I am so in love. He and my sun Conure have yet to interact with eat other. I wanted to quarantine him for the first couple of weeks. Even though everything checked out with the vet, I still wanted to be better safe than sorry. Plus, I wanted him to get used to seeing my sun Conure at a distance first. He so much bigger than my sun and could really hurt him. Today I will be putting them in the bird room together for the first time.
So happy for you and your 'too!! We rescued a goffins cockatoo a couple months ago from a reacue center that had more birds than they really probably should have with the conditions they had. She was very very shy when we first got her too. Shes come out of her shell a lot and after the first month and a half she went from just friendly, to a full on snuggle bug!!

Jayden Ferris funny you say this, yesterday someone commented a bird with clipped wings crashed into a window because they didn’t have the flight feathers to control their flight. It’s actually proven that most birds who end up in vets with injury’s are clipped and injure them self’s because they can’t land or even fly properly where a flighted bird has the skills or can learn them very fast to avoid objects. They are birds after all...
Bailey Likes Cerial months and months of training, we made a video on what we did called “Parrot journey to free flight” our ways aren’t recommended but they worked.
I love coming back to this video from time to time. Mia has come so far since then. You did an awesome job with her. You're one of the only people that can properly take care of big parrots.
I have 2 female blue and gold macaws, both very happy and healthy. Clipping their wings is an absolute must, I take them outdoors for walks every day and they are very social with all my neighbors. About 6 months ago I had one of them fly away and had to climb a tree to get her back, it was a close call and absolutely not worth the risk. That happened because I wasn't keeping up with clipping her wings. These beautiful animals can live for many decades and every measure must be taken to keep them safe. Cheers and good luck to you
Clipping is the most dangerous thing you can do. The reason your bird flew up a tree and you couldn’t get your bird down is because firstly you wouldn’t have done any recall training with her and secondly you disabled her and she wouldn’t have had the full wings or skills to fly down. If there was a predictor in sight your bird would’ve been dead where as a flighted bird would’ve survived. You think they are happy and healthy as you don’t know any different, clipped birds can still fly, just not well and if they get out, there is a very high chance they are dead. Can I offer an alternative solution to you? No matter the age of the bird, species, living situation, free flying training is always an option!!! Not saying you have to fly your birds but the skills they will learn will set them up for life, Birds have wings, they're one of the only creatures gifted with flight - why take that away? There are a couple scientific based programs that use the birds natural ability to allow them to freefly safely! this is often a solution to any type of misbehaviours - screaming, biting cause by physical frustration. What's better than taking your bird outside? Your bird FLYING outside, and safely! Please consider every option before limiting their amazing ability - after all, what's a bird without their wings? I completely understand safety reasons, but mentally, birds need so much enrichment to be emotionally healthy! And the worse part about this is, clipping does not stop your bird from being able to fly, but it makes their survival rate extremely low if they escape, get lost, stuck etc. It’s proven that most birds that escape and never found or found dead were clipped bird that got taken with the wind. This can be avoided and your bird will have a much better life if you put in the time with training, not saying free flight is the answer but basic recall should be a must.
Just amazing and beautiful. The life you give these amazing birds is exactly what they need.I was in awe seeing Mikey free flying and no doubt Mia is too now (2020).Bless you for rescuing this beautiful bird from a life of hell..Shame on these people who are just ignorant and arrogant !!Let me put them in a tiny prison for LIFE !!!...Amazing channel and bless .We need more people like yourselves in this world....Best wishes to to you all x

(With my money)
Haha you will need much much more money to look after the bird. They are a very serious commitment.
@@MikeyTheMacaw also they live very long so you have to keep in mind that you HAVE to take care of it for aong time
Im on the same boat.

But i want a scarlet macaw cuz thats the cheapest one in my local pet shop, $100
But its ok ive rounded up $257 over the years
Jaime Leon im 9 xD and i commented that 7 moths ago.....i think she gonna sayyyy nope
You never know, you might hit the jackpot. Maybe shell say yes
Very sweet video💗Thank you for sharing💕🌺💐🌻
Aren't female macaws more dominant the male macaw because that how it work with my budgies
With my amazons it work with the male being more dominant, although it may be that he was older and here before her. Maybe the same applies to Mikey and Mia
Not actually too sure. We will look into this.
@@MikeyTheMacaw i know females are more dominate as the female bird is always at the top of the perch
STOP MAKING ME CRYY!!!,💙💚💛🤧 This video was so Beautiful! Mia is just like me! Well, im a human and shes a bird but...ya.. Also my nick name is Mia! Haha awww thanks for stopping by again. Glad you enjoyed the video.
fantastic, thank you for rescuing this bird
Thanks for watching.
Not clipping is fine until your bird flies into a window and breaks its neck.
Or, you spend a few mins a day training your bird how to fly around the house safely and avoid disabling it
@@MikeyTheMacaw not criticizing just genuine curiosity, how do you teach your birds to fly
@@MikeyTheMacaw It only takes 1 flight for a bird to hit a window
Jayden Ferris funny you say this, yesterday someone commented a bird with clipped wings crashed into a window because they didn’t have the flight feathers to control their flight. It’s actually proven that most birds who end up in vets with injury’s are clipped and injure them self’s because they can’t land or even fly properly where a flighted bird has the skills or can learn them very fast to avoid objects. They are birds after all...
Bailey Likes Cerial months and months of training, we made a video on what we did called “Parrot journey to free flight” our ways aren’t recommended but they worked.
What a lovely home she has now. Such kindness.
I love coming back to this video from time to time. Mia has come so far since then. You did an awesome job with her. You're one of the only people that can properly take care of big parrots.
Awww yay. Yea it’s crazy re watching this seeing how far she has come.
Mia is so smart. Got bless her saviors. Mia deserves a great life with intelligent and loving humans.
She’s doing so well too
I have 2 female blue and gold macaws, both very happy and healthy.
