So, when it comes to trade agreements i have always found that the AI sees the trade agreement as undesirable simply because you would make more money than them through it. Ive been playing Shogun 2 co-op with a friend and found that the trade agreement is not fully equal, if you are giving them resources (you export them import) then you make more, but if you import and them export, then they make more. This game will never be fun for me to play. Without a proper collision engine the troops on the battlefield just feel like shadows. In Rome 1 when a unit of heavy cavalry charged through an unprepared unit you felt it, it was heavy but this can never live up to that and I just can't play it because of it.

As someone who hasn't played pc since medieval 2, I'm getting back into pc. Is this game worth it yes or no. Ps I LOVE the setting, as rome total war was my favourite game back in the day. Any advise would be much appreciated
yes, if you love the setting it's definitely worth it. I played rome 1, medieval 2 and also the newer tw's like warhammer 2. When rome 2 came out i did not play it since it was kinda bad but now i can enjoy rome 2 just because of the setting and the fact that now it is quite polished.
Also... the slingers run away when near enemies when skirmish mode is on. Which you had :P that worked as intended. In order for them to reliably stand and shoot near enemies... turn off skirmish mode and just micro manage them.
I don't know why but in rome 1 as long as you are not at war with a faction, they agree to trade rights. In rome 2 that's not the case. I don't know what you can lose by trading with someone...both sides get money. unless you are like this huge empire and the opposite side is small but has overpowered late game troops.
You need to play DeI Rambler. It’s still being updated and it’s fantastic. Talk to Jackie Fish about what mods you should get to really enhance the game.

You have the option to build ancillary military building which allows you to recruit units native to that region, this put a whole new spin on it, Some regions can be extremely handy to fetch just to get their native units such as syrian elephants or Rhodian slingers. And plenty more amazing features

Hey Alex, your a quite a bit quieter than adds. Is that on purpose? It would be nice to not have to dive for the volume control and the add break comes.
On turn 3 as the Gauls I completely surrounded the last enemy unit which was a command unit with 8 of mine. They must of heen outnumbered 5 to 1 and totally surrounded by my mellee swordsman but yet still won... flanking is broken I uninstalled straight away and went back to Rome 1 where flanking works.
@@Goatisch It's just that after months of being spoiled by Kaiserreich, R56 and even Equestria, the base game feels a bit bland to me. But that's only my opinion.
I think it’s pretty good now, granted it still has some small issues (mainly diplomacy). What I really like is that there is a great mod community that offers so much reply value. I like to mod mine to have 40 unit stacks in campaign.
I agree with your comments on mods unless the program itself is designed for mods. For example IMHO rimworld was designed for mods, same with minecraft etc.
Honestly I still love rome 2. It may be the most basic, easy and simple total war game, but that's the fun about it, there's no tryharding, it's just a bit of good old expanding fun if you're tired of story-based total war games. Mods of course add a lot of extra fun too.
Rome 2 is graphically pretty solid, has a bigass map, a kinda interesting political system (that was much more developed later)... ...but I still love Rome 1 better due to its combat system.

Man I feel the same way, I played Rome 2 a lot and rarely encounter any bugs, I feel like Medieval 2 that everyone keeps on praising is a lot more cluncky and buggy. I've had bugs in medieval 2 that made me abandon a campaign, something that has never happened in Rome 2 for me. Even though I do admit that Medieval 2 had a lot of interesting mechanics like the pope, tech discoveries, castles, population .. I think Rome 2 is the superior game nowadays. I could give tons of reasons why but I don't want to write a book rn.
Yeh, ran smooth enough for me too
The diplomacy agreements need to be attempted turn 1 with the same culture factions, it’s easier if u start a war against a separate culture faction both of ur people dislike. You should be able to get a def agreement even on legendary
Hey Alex, your a quite a bit quieter than adds. Is that on purpose?
It would be nice to not have to dive for the volume control and the add break comes.
The thing that bugged me the most about rome 2 was how overpowered javelins are and how underpowered spear units are
On turn 3 as the Gauls I completely surrounded the last enemy unit which was a command unit with 8 of mine. They must of heen outnumbered 5 to 1 and totally surrounded by my mellee swordsman but yet still won... flanking is broken I uninstalled straight away and went back to Rome 1 where flanking works.
Watching Alex playing Total War Rome 2 while I'm playing Empire Total War, Total Warception
"I don't think a game should need mods to be fun"
Ya heard that, Hearts of Iron? YA HEARD THAT?!
But its fine Without mods
@@Goatisch Meh... I dunno...
Ever heard of a company named Bethesda? They make games you know
@@Michal_S. Atleast in my opinion
@@Goatisch It's just that after months of being spoiled by Kaiserreich, R56 and even Equestria, the base game feels a bit bland to me. But that's only my opinion.
i still play rome 2 pretty frequently, probably my favorite total war game overall
@10:10 there was a hill blocking line of sight
I really wish I had my current machine along with Rome 2 emperor edition like, 15 years ago. Of course, I would NEVER have seen the light of day
I think it’s pretty good now, granted it still has some small issues (mainly diplomacy).
I still play this game and get back to in one or twice a year. Only this year I bought the dlc for it.
Hey Alex, a Rome 2 video where you explore one of the campaigns you haven't played, with a mod that says it can improve the base game, would be great. Can it be done? Is there a Rome 2 mod that actually delivers after all these years?
divide et impera with deadly cavalry mod and (if you're used to fast battles) a combat speed mod. Its soooooo much better than the original game.
