The first time I saw a western dress worn in Philippines drama with that feather is in "Grazilda" by GMA ..Glaiza De Castro's first lead role as Cinderella's stepsister who got out of the book as a punishment by fairy godmother played by Jolina Magdangal. And the other one with western influences are Indio .."Esperanza" played by Jennylyn Mercado's Dress and "Illustrado" Solenn Heusaff along with other foreign extras..

Im a big fan of ABS-CBN as an entertainment company but GMA got me drawn with this series. Its saur good phia!!!
If you are a person who loves social commentaries and discussion, this is the best series. Sobrang relevant ng mga nangyayari sa series sa nangyayari sa present time, like everything that happens in the series is an indirect call out sa present government and even sa mga toxic men. I am sure you are going to enjoy this super!

Actually, it may seem that there is a love triangle but it's not! After 10 episodes already, it is more of admiration. According to Barbie, they are not going to change the story. "Patriarchy and misogyny" were not things the Filipinos had a problem with during the Spanish colonial era. There was more of a classistic oppression than sexist oppression. Looking back at this reaction, Ibarra and Fidel have listened to Klay numerous times without any evidence or proof. That's furthest from patriarchy and misogyny. We have female war heroes in Gabriela Silang, Tandang Sora, Josefa Llanes Escoda, Nieves Fernandez. Besides, the Philippines is one of the first Asian countries to vote for Asian suffrage. If you study precolonial Philippines, you'll discover that we were a matriarchal society. The first female president in the world was elected in 1980, we had our first female president 6 years after.
Otherwise it was a good reaction. I'm just disappointed in your lack of knowledge. Just because uso ngayon ang women's issues doesn't mean we suffer the same general issues as the USA and other countries.

If you recall, ibarra was hesitant to even believe in klay and fidel if you have even watched the series just like what I DO have had misogynistic claims that he even said it to Klay's face so idk what you're saying about their "openness" and lets not forget that both of them are FICTIONAL and the historians have proven that in spanish colonial era women had little to no power ESPECIALLY POOR WOMEN (proven pls read the links i replied). The first one links women's struggles with the more known social justice and sovereignty. Just the first paragraph about the Katipunan said women joined the resistance movement. Is that a sign of patriarchy and misogyny? Don't think so.
The second one is about Andean women. Next.
About your 3rd link, is the problem the Filipino culture, or is it the Spanish occupation? You're confusing the two. As shown in PH history after the 333 years of Spanish rule, women have continuously been elevated and trusted in positions of power. We might retain Spanish last names, Spanish words, Spanish architecture, but we didn't retain their patriarchal culture.
Ibarra and Fidel's hesitation to believe Klay isn't misogynistic. Asking for proof is natural. What does Klay want to happen, make 2 esteemed gentlemen go in guns blazing and risk getting excommunicated by the church which was virtually untouchable at the time? You have to consider their side, unlike Klay who's lost in time, Ibarra and Fidel have a lot to lose.
Also being a woman doesn't mean you have 100% authority in what defines misogyny; para mo na rin sinabing Amber Heard should've won the case against Johnny Depp because she's a woman even if all the evidence was stacked against her.
By Maria Clara, do you mean the series or the character? Because while women weren't allowed to go school, only given few career choices, and couldn't get jobs back in the day, those things don't qualify as patriarchal or misogynistic at all. For example, the right to vote in the USA was linked to being drafted in times of war, which majority of the women at the time didn't want (anti suffragists). Back then in a more "primitive" society, career choices that didn't rely on manual labor were limited, therefore it makes sense that women's career choices were limited. And since we're talking about gender roles in society anyway, taking care of a family full time is hard work back in the day especially in the Spanish era. You think that's misogyny, for a mother to take care of her children? That's disrespectful to moms like Sisa.
Besides, we see men in MCI (majority of them anyway) very much respecting of women, even trusting Klay who had no way of divulging her source of info about future events. That's our Filipino culture bleeding into the Spanish upbringing of the mestizos.
In essence, I'm not saying that those problems don't exist in the Philippines. I just disagree with the notion that patriarchy and misogyny are systemic problems here. The fact that Klay didn't get physically harmed or so for interrupting them back in the day should show you how much respect they had for women, and they were discussing how bad it would be if women got educated (which is the misogynistic part of the scene, not everything else). Remember, there weren't many rules for women in the Spanish colonial era, if any.
