I've not tattooed for a while but I was 25 years in the business this is good advice I wish we had practice skin all them years ago but all we had woz alcoholics lol
What are you talking about alcoholics back then. We still have them now to practice on. If you dont wanna buy a nice fat pork but or belly skin on. BUT ALCOHOLICS ARE BEST TO LEARN YOU GET MORE CHALLENGED AND MORE MISTAKES AND CHALLENGE THE MORE YOU LEARN
I had punk rockers in the 90’s when I started. I still suck so maybe I’ll go back and try practice skin
Crispy fried alcoholic skin... shudder
🤣
Not me, I tattoo on outlaw bikers. Much more entertaining.
Fantastic tutorial, no annoying music, nice pace , very easy to concentrate and learn .
Thanks
I just started tattooing about a year and a half ago and color packing has been my biggest challenge. I don't want to overwork the skin so I end up having to do touch ups .this has helped me so much . Thanks for your videos man !
I'm hoping this video has helped you out too! But my motto will always be "better to go too light and do touch ups, then overwork or blowout bc there's no fixing scars" but it gets a bit expensive doing all those free touch ups ☺
@@sarahdedrick79 absolutely I totally agree
I do 3D tattooing in oncology and this has helped me to better understand the injection of color, especially gradients, in these extremely delicate skins, thank you!!!!
This is hands down the best down to grit TECHNICAL video on UA-cam. Very good
This was the best meditation session I’ve ever done
I'm a tattoo artist from Indonesia, I can learn a lot from your channel, your videos are easy to understand. Thank you very much
Today i laid it all on the table. I chose to have faith in my rookie ability and i gave my hand the official first tattoo by me. Nerves told me that this could go either way. I gambled on myself having faith in my ability( so new it barley exist) tbh i surprised myself and realized we often cut ourselves shorter than we should. My expectations were on prepare for disappointment level. All said and done i am beyond satisfied and from here on out ill believe in myself responsibly lined with what i know as facts. Im not one to brag but just like when you're child first finds out they can ride without training wheels i now know that it is worth betting on yourself sometimes because you may just learn some things that lead to more passion for the craft and maybe a bit of eagerness to see what you do next time. Its sad that i waited until i was 43 to ballz up and do it. But from here on out i cant think of anything else i want to do with myself. Better late than never.
Practicing along to these videos is the most heartwarming thing I swear thank you for making this
a lot of tutorials out there but your tutorial is the best, simple and you are teaching us while actually doing it.thanks
I was tuning my guitar while watching and you machine is like tuned on E, also great vids
Thank you! Great video
I just found your tutorials and i absolutely love what you're doing! You're truly a fantastic mentor! Very easy to follow along with and i appreciate you explaining your techniques. We learn something new every day and i am going to give the foundation transitioning a go, Thanks again for the video!
Wow! I’m just starting and I am learning so much watching your videos. Your awesome!
Beautiful. 💕💚💕 Thank you for sharing.
im researching to learn to tattoo myself. the fear, cringe, and relief i felt when you mentioned slicing the skin by going side to side 😅 i never would have considered that despite how obvious it is in retrospect and it would have been very uncomfortable figuring it out. This is why you always do your due diligence before hand.
Me regretting letting my phone die before I could read this pre tattoo last night lmao
Excellent natural teaching ability paired with use of the proper nomenclature. Really useful lean and muscular narrative.
thank you so much! tomorrow ill try to do my best at my first color tattoo!
Thanks for this video I learned so much…
Just subscribed to your amazing channel. Bro, your tutorials are super informational and super helpful. Thank you and don't change anything about your posts. I enjoy every moment of them and you keep my attention. Greatly appreciate you and your craft.
Great video! Better off watching this than neighbours any day!
What voltage you use when color packing, shadong and lining?
Can’t wait to try this technique I’ve been having problems with shading an getting a smooth transition I’ve only done 5 or 6 tattoos now an the black has been the hardest to get solid an smooth with no patchy ares. An the cross hatch I’m goin to try. Don’t know why I didn’t think of that jus like sanding body work to get a smooth even panel. Lol. Thks a lot I was thinking it didn’t want to take bc skin was a bit irritated from line work an having to go over a few times but. Have to try that. I’ve learned a lot from ur tutorials thanks a lot for ur time an explanation on everything
Genial. Muchas gracias por tu explicación. Me sirvió mucho.
Great video have just subscribed 👍
Youre the best man! So helpfull! Truly appreciate it man!
Happy to help!
Thanks so much bro I have a full apprenticeship now and my mentor does black and grey realism I want to try other things like new school American traditional and neon knowing how colors work and how to blend them is what you just helped me with thanks again and great work love your tattoos 🎉💯💯💯
This man does a good job, I donated 10 bucks to you guys I have been watching 👀 your videos lately for tips. I started tattooing about a month ago, and your information is great, thank you
I have only just started tattooing and done 3 of my own tattoos so after watching your video I am definitely ready to take my tattooing to the next level thankyou so much your video is a great hrlp
Thank you❤️❤️

You’re welcome
Great film
Bro thanks for your videos.🙏🏽
May i know what needdle did you used for the lining in the Rose? 😯
Nice video! What Disposebal cart grip is it you are using? It looks very comfy and quality...
Great video. Would love to see how the tattoo looks when the skin’s healed
AMAZING CHANNEL
Great stuff
thanks a lot🙌
Thanks a million
Love Your work in explanation and this Tutorial i would say is the Best...
Thank you so much 😀
Nice video sir. Watching from philppines🕵️🕵️
Your work is very beautiful. I have been an artist for many yrs but working with on tattoo art only a few months . I am wanting to know what angle you are using for your shading ?
Thank you
Hey Nathan…..tips for darker skin tones and shading? Does the flesh tone ink technique work with darker skin or are there adjustments needed to fit darker skin?
I also was curious about this as well :)
Yeah it will. But it won’t look as bright when healed. The pigment in the clients skin will over power the foundation flesh.
Still works but you won’t get as much contrast as you do on someone who has pale skin
very good n useful tips! love ur video! it’s very clear! but i have one question, when i do color packing, does it matter if i do it in clockwise or counterclockwise? i heard it matters but i’m not quite sure :/
Love love love your videos Would love to follow along but I don’t see the links below to follow along
Great Lesson my friend. What liner did you use?
Really good 👍
Thank you, I'm glad it's helped you!
Thanks a lot Nathan for the video. I must say, im not really convinced by the look of the skin foundation color, i really much prefer the traditionnal look of fading but it's definitely just a person preference rather than whats good what's not.
Awesome channel that you've got, gonna go more through it! Thanks again for all of that
I agree, I don't like that technique at all lol. I have tattoos that have a regular whip shading gradient into my skin tone and it looks smooth and totally normal. Why would you use a "skin" toned ink when everyone's skin tones are completely different?? Seems like a bizarre choice
@@-Araina- right I’ve thought the same thing but I could see how foundation could be used in tattoos like how sometimes women get a permanent natural lip tattoos so they don’t need lipstick and what not
No hate, you forgot a line in the arrow strap before the feathers
Can’t wait to get started and apply all the tips 🔥
Love this tutorial! I wasn't sure if I missed it but how much did you change your voltage when switching from shading with black to packing the green?
Surely doing this on skin would really overwork it would you do the blackwork first then colour on a next session?
the foundation flesh color being used with normal color is genius! but i guess it’ll be more trickier when tattooing asian :/ our skin color varies more than white person, we got different kinds of yellow haha
A thousand thanks! I am really grateful for this video! ❤🧡💛
Just one question: but if I use a blue or light blue and I blend it with the "Foundation Flesh" or similar, does it become a green?
How can I fix this problem? What can I use to keep a bright and vibrant blue without changing its hue?
So do you use flesh tones to fade out all colors like you did with that rose. Lik if I wanted to do a blue rose would I use the same method.
Hey, Nathan! I for the life of me can't colour pack... my mentor is getting frustrated and I am also. I do too much skin damage for the amount of saturation I'm getting.
I've been told figure 8 motions and go reaaallly slow. It works well for me when packing black. I just need something new to try I suppose 😅 thanks! I learned a lot through your videos
Color is harder than black and gray. It might be worth sticking to black and gray for a while then when you get super comfortable with it transition to color. You will be much more comfortable with the machine by then and it will be easier.
Also use practice skin (reel skin) it enables you to tattoo every day and you will pick it faster. Consistency is the key to success
what torsion bar /tension do you use for color packing?
witch tension bar did u use please great tatt
New to the art... can you use reverse osmosis water or just distilled for rinsing?
Awesome video!! What kind of fake skin do you use?
Nice
Hi! Will The World famous ink- light flesh be as good as Fusion for colour blending?
Is there an equivalent to foundation flesh for darker skin tones? Great video
What was the golden stuff in the bottle he put on the towel to change the colours?
Hey mate, what brand inks are you using?
did u use 3,5 cam nathan good work
Hi nathan, is it true that u need to be able to do watercolour painting before u use colours in tattooing. Looking at this, it doesn't look like. Ur mint fair dos.
Do you have to change your meddle for every color?
what kind of stand for the phone r u using
wat size needle do u us to pack
Was wondering Nathan with a continuous 5amp power supply do u still want to line at 9-10 volts shade and pack color at 8-9.5 volts.
On your shading video the flash designs wasn't down below I looked at all the links and couldn't find them.
I'll get that sorted, I used a critical power supply and have done so my entire career I'm not familiar with the settings for other power supplys
@@Tattooing101 ok thx
Could you list what ink companies you have used and which ones have less heavy materials
fusion, intenze, radiant, solid ink, eternal, Dynamic (lining black only) none of these should have heavy metals in them as they are made in USA
Hi quick question! Are you using a curved mag or flat mag? Love this video!
Use a flat mag if you're an amateur. Curved mag will cause damage if you don't know what you're doing
Absolutely not use a curve mag always straight mags you can absolutely chew up skin and make it look like hamburger meat
I believe he's using a flat.. But I used curved. Softer shading IMO.
I have question.. You say at 12:10 you can make light fades by lightly brushing the top of the skin, doesnt that "heal away" in a healing prosess, if the ink is in epidermis -skin layer?
see now thats a good question because i was thinking the same like if its light brushing then isnt it gunna fall out i thought depth is key 🤔
I’m struggling with pink. A lady wanted a small flamingo in all pink with a black beak. I scarred the pink because I couldn’t tell if it was going in solid or if her skin was just red from the tattooing.
Do you still need stretch skin while packing? Love your work technically best on UA-cam for beginners 👌🏻
Yes still need to stetch for packing
@@Tattooing101 thanks
what spec needle is this?
I may have missed it but what voltage to you run your inkjecta for color packing?
He said 10. Even though I think that's high, the results speak for themselves. Plus, I use coil machines so the differences are night and day.
TS35:26 you mention a link in description for the patterns to follow along but i cant see them?
Nathan what brand gloves u use they look thicker and sturdier than most brands and what power supply you use.
I use black rocket nitrile gloves size medium. Got them off amazon. Brand doesnt matter too much just make sure they are nitrile, way tougher than laytex
@@Tattooing101 cool thx
Can foundation flesh work with AA skin?
And what cartridge brand is it you are using? Never seen this shape especially at the end when you pack the RS highlights in...
Instead of the cream for blending into the skin color.. if you're tatting someone darker skin like a dark tan or even darker skin brown would you just use a color tint to match their skin color or would that be best to use the cross hatch fade and leave it kinda like the leaves in this tat for most of the tat? I mean it looks nice either way just wonder the technique on tatting someone with darker skin that wants a smooth blended out look like that, because flesh tone I think may look dramatic and unnatural if added to darker pigmentation but wasn't sure if it'd blend out into the skin all the same using like a tan or darker color matching their skin. Or would you tattoo the matching skin color 1st especially using a light color like lavender or light pinks
Sorry if its a stupid question super beginner here and fasinated by this.
What was the voltage for the colour packing?
Nathan when you use the 3 points of contact on hand placement when tattooing real skin how do you do the stretch at same time ??
hey mike. I stretch with my left hand then use the palm of my tattooing hand to pull across before I pant it on the skin. Once you have hte stretch you can slide along the skin and it will stay tight. It sounds weird but you get used to it. Also dont strech to hard, it doesn't take much.
Also start tattooing on peoples legs first. skins tighter and your stretch doesn't have to be perfect to get a solid line.
Ok will try that. Thx again.
Hi mate what size needle would be best to do a large area, black out tattoo? I'm thinking a 17 curved mag? Just started watching this, it's great so far!
@@fluke808state4 17 curved mag or a 23 mag. I would use a 17 mag standard bc you'll get better saturation and will not have to go over it so many times.
@@truckdrivermm thanks!I'll play around on fake skin first. Ok will try standard mag,of course more saturation than curved. I was told curved wont chew up skin,I'm no way ready for real skin yet altho have worked in a shop but didn't learn much.
Hello - what shade/brand of red ink are you using?
Intense ink with foundation flesh from fusion. I use that color to blend to skin tone
Do you recommend using give when colour packing?
Yes but I use the hard tension bar. Shading and lining is use soft
- nathan
@@Tattooing101 thanks for sharing that mate what's the theory of using the soft bar for lining? I thought rigid would be better, I'll try it out next time👍
Which yellow ink did you use on that one , i love it need to name :D
I think it was banana cream by intenze
Surprised... It didn't become orange
hey! any voltage indication? high, low? medium? and hand pressure?
He said 10.
Do u always shade on 10v or it just bc fake skin
What voltage do you pack color at?
I don't know why but my practice skin doesn't hold ink very well. Most of the ink wipes off & makes a huge mess to clean up off the surface...
You can try rubbig a thin layer of vaseline on the fake skin before you wipe the excess ink off
Can you use foundation flesh for all colours or just red as I don't want the colour to change to a diferent colour.
Yeah man works for most colors except for really light pastel colors, foundation flesh can make them look darker, those ones I just whip out
@@Tattooing101 cool I just thought adding this to a colour would make brown mixed with green
@@Tattooing101 would you be able to do a video of this on human skin 🤔
why are you using a flesh tone instead of white? simply style preference?? would using white make this style of shading pop more on darker skin tones?
been super interested in learning tattooing. . . you make it easy to pay attention lol 😍
Foundation flesh lighten the colour without changing vibrancy and it ages better. Yes you can use white but it will make the colour muted (this can look great for neo traditional) and it will fade faster
Hey can you post a video of you tattooing on a client at 10 volts? I think thats what you said if Im correct. I can see someone tattooing on practice skin but on a person at 10 volts seems kinda harsh. Thanks in advance and Ill keep an eye out on the video.
In the video of the live tattoo (Skelton) brandon ran his machine on 10 volts threw the linework and shading
I guess nobody has seen a red rose with a little yellow part!
Is it exist in the universe?😊
What brand and size needle are you using
12gauge mag,how many needles
