Wow, wow! I thoroughly enjoyed riding shotgun with you on this beautiful and incredible journey! What a gorgeous place to be to have some solitude. I can only imagine how much fun kayaking the river was, especially in those rapids. I am so envious! I've lived in SE Texas for so many years, and have never ventured over to Big Bend. I sure hope to visit there in the near future. Thank you so much for the phenomenal bird's eye view.
Ran the Grande years ago with the kids very easy . Memorable moments and hiked into Mexico in one of slot canyon and found a cougar kill. Very enjoyable and scenic thanks for the memories
I went canoeing down there for a college credit back in 2009. I absolutely loved it. We started at Colorado Canyon. We even saw the little hut where the music video was shot for "My Maria" at one point. We spent a few days canoeing as well. I wore shorts the whole time and my white ass thighs got sunburned af. I had blisters at the top where my shorts ended, but it was definitely worth it. My now exboyfriend and I camped outside of the tent and fell asleep under the brightest stars I have ever seen. That's the least light pollution I've ever experienced, as I'm from (and still live in) Pascagoula, MS, home of the largest employer in the state. This video takes me back.
made me feel like i was there! Love how remote and wild this is. Some bog hard things in the way - watch that snapper? doesn't bite the kayak - those bushes were something else lol. Thanks for sharing that trip :-)
I would allow 4 hours to complete this journey. I put in a the Colorado Canyon access point and got out at La Cuesta. You can go a little further if you like to the next one at Lower Madera campground. I wanted to do that but it started to get dark. I did this on the shortest day of the year.
When was this filmed ? I've never seen the.river downstream of El Paso, I live in the mesilla valley and it's completely dry. Being that it's damed at caballo and elephant butte. Wondering where the water down there comes from in the winter. ?
This was in mid-December. There's a sizeable tributary near Presidio that comes from the Mexico side, Rio Conchos. It appears that there may be a few other smaller ones between El Paso and this stretch of river
I got out at La Cuesta campground. I originally wanted to continue to the next campground along the river (Lower Madera) but it was almost dark by the time I arrived at La Cuesta. I literally did this around the shortest day of the year in December. I had someone there drop me off and pick me up.
Yes December. I haven't gone further upstream. I'm certainly interested in exploring more in spring or fall when it's a bit warmer (but not 110 degrees).
Great video, my friend! Lovely kayaking! Best way to relax, haveing some whater adventure isn't it? 😉 The nature Is amazing, too.. What area is that? Enjoyed watching a lot! Cheers from Russia, dude , and how about visiting my channel as well? I've got something to share about floating, camping, and other! Anyway, best wishes in all your plans and beginnings! Regards, Yuriy!
Thanks for taking this video so we could come along for the ride! I live most that there was not another person! Beautiful!
Beautiful and rugged country. Love anytime there is water in the desert.
Yes, once you get away from the Rio Grande water is pretty scarce out there.
YES!!!;) RIGHT!!!;)???
Beautiful! Thx for taking us along!

Great trip and cool to see the other side of that canyon. Bummer on the spill but looks like you were able to recover pretty quick 🤙
Thanks. It was pretty sweet. I need to go back when the days are longer (and warmer).
When the borders were secure....nice

Beautiful
Very nice video ,thanks ! 👍14 and new friend👍
Thank you for watching!
Thanks for the video. What month of the year was your paddle trip?
I wouldnt call it the wildest but it is beautiful.
Just came back from devils river this is my next stop
Beautiful! That cow was lost! So, there's a drop-off and pick-up point? Any kayaking guided trip through there?
Very therapeutic video. Well done. What we’re entrance and exit points and how long did it take to complete ?

there is a ghost at minute 6.37 on the right side of the river
What were the water levels when you went? I’m wanting to plan a trip but I don’t want to get out there and the water be to low
From what I understand the water needs to be above 50 cfs
Do you know what the flow rate was that day - or the depth at the Redford gauge station? Thank you.
Rafted a lot of that streach, with two frieñds.
From the Redford dam to Lajitas. Once in a lifetime experience!

Great kayaking video of Colorado Canyon. Where was your takeout point?
La Cuesta. I wanted to go to the next one (Lower Madera Canyon) but it started to get dark. It was about 7.4 miles.
I'd love to do that, but not sure it's safe to go alone in that part of Texas. How are you supporting your camera?
It's a gopro so there are various ways to mount it. I use a head mount when kayaking and chest mount when mountain biking.
Fun adventure! Where did you get out and did you use a shuttle service?
I got out at La Cuesta campground. I originally wanted to continue to the next campground along the river (Lower Madera) but it was almost dark by the time I arrived at La Cuesta. I literally did this around the shortest day of the year in December. I had someone there drop me off and pick me up.
Actually it's shared by Texas and Old Mexico!!!
Great footage! Did you do this in Dec 2020? Ever gone above Colorado Canyon access?
Yes December. I haven't gone further upstream. I'm certainly interested in exploring more in spring or fall when it's a bit warmer (but not 110 degrees).
What is the best month to kayak this river
I would say April on a day when it's not windy
This looks awesome! Definitely on my list. How did you get back to your vehicle at the put in?
I had someone shuttle me back.
Would be nice to to do it with a bunch of friends.
Perfect for a mmf or fmf
Does Mexico have claim to it too??
Yes, it's my understanding that the river is shared
No walls...
Your gonna end up without a head screwing around that close to the border....
But the border area has some of the best stuff

Getting trapped under brush...water will hold you against it and even push you under where you can get stuck...bad way to die.
Learn a SIDE-DRAW stroke to avoid the cane.........
I want a kayak so bad. This video isn't helping. Lol
