As a native NYer, the only reason you'd take the AirTran is if you live really close to a subway and have a monthly subway ticket to help cut costs. From Long Island, the LIRR to the AirTran is really convenient if you don't have much luggage but... to be honest... most natives just grab a *yellow* taxi if they don't have someone to give them a ride. They have special flat fares. Most cabbies are really experienced around the airports. So much easier, and it's worth the money not to drag your luggage through all the different trains. Plus, the peace of mind of getting there on time and refreshed. Glad to see you back in NY! It suits you :-)
I don't know about the native new yorkers taking a cab thing. It really depends on where you're going. It's sooo expensive and you end up waiting forever. in the 15 years i lived there, i did that maybe twice. I otherwise took the bus/subway or the airport shuttle van to Grand Central. Actually, the airport shuttle service is the best way to go IMO. The only time i ever took the LIRR to an airport was when I flew out of Islip before Southwest finally got a spot in LGA.

I've lived in NYC and regarding getting to/from airport. LaGuardia: take subway to bus, should be around $10 for both tickets. For JFK, Airtrain Red to Jamaica Station will be $8 then subway transfer (A/C/E goes to Manhattan) - don't take the LIRR from Jamaica as it costs extra to transfer to subway. Sometimes the subway at Jamaica doesn't arrive or the track is down and they allow you to ride free to Manhattan on the LIRR - just say that there were no subways running and/or show your Metrocard. Everytime I take Airtrain Red to Jamaica, it's very sketchy on the subway and the surrounding areas so I recommend the second option: AirTrain Green to Howard Beach and subway transfer to A. Same cost and might take longer (depending if your stop is on the A) but is a lot safer than Jamaica Station.
This highlights the impact & importance of LGA [finally!?!] getting progress on their AirTrain started. If only the political vested interests could just get out the way. [Getting any AirTrain going ANYWHERE out of LGA is better than fighting for either direction]

NYC hack! If you’re staying on the west side or midtown you should fly into Newark. There’s a train there that will take you straight to pen station on 34th. I don’t remember how much it is, but it usually took way less time than if I was coming from JFK and the train was nicer.
Have you thought about just letting your nails grow and buffing them? When you buff them gently, it makes them SUPER shiny. Buffers are really inexpensive and there are lots of options at Amazon and Sephora.
I’ve take the AirTran to/from JFK 10+ times before (mostly at night) and never had an issue or was sketched out but I’m also a 6ft+ man so that might have something to do with it lol
I’m also a native New Yorker and the answer is “it depends.” Bummer you ran into a sketchy situation. It happens from time-to-time. Usually the AirTrain is the least likely leg for that to happen tho. JFK has the better public transportation options for now. LGA is closer to uptown Manhattan tho that the cab/car fare can be less expensive. If you’re in Downtown Manhattan Newark isn’t a bad option. Just saying. I fly primarily from JFK because of where I live in Brooklyn. So that’s what advice I have to offer here. Flying a lot for my job I’ve done it all. Uber/Lyft are significantly more expensive (Manhattan could cost you $100 or more these days) than the public transportation options especially these days. If it’s during rush hour or there is an accident on the Belt Parkway the trains are actually faster especially if you’re going into Manhattan. Yellow cabs or a car service are often cheaper than Uber or Lyft but you may end up waiting longer for one and they’re subject to the same traffic problems. The AirTrain to LIRR/subway can be a pain late at night or early morning because you probably will have to wait a long time for your connection. I’d lean towards a car unless you’re on a tight budget. The LIRR is good if your connections line up and it stops close to where you’re going. I live in Brooklyn and have taken the LIRR from Jamaica to Atlantic Terminal because it’s more comfortable- less stops, luggage racks, better seating - and often faster if I don’t miss a connection. If you want the cheapest route AirTrain to subway at Howard Beach is the way to go. I think it’s faster from that point than Jamaica. If you know you have to use the subway to get to where you are going then skipping the LIRR is probably a good idea. The AirTrain will soon have touchless payments (ApplePay etc) like the rest of the subway so you can avoid that line you hit. Someone screwed up that they don’t have this already. (They even issued an apology back in April because of it.) That said Howard Beach doesn’t suffer from that line as much as Jamaica does. Hope that helps and you give it a try again.

With you usually staying downtown (and on the west side) it is always always best to fly into Newark. If you want to take the train from there you take an air train from the airport to NJ transit and it takes you to Penn station. But if you Uber and are going to downtown Manhattan it isn’t that bad … I live in Soho and Ubers are usually $50 from Newark and usually take 25 mins. There is almost no reason ever to fly into JFK. Only reason to is if you’re staying in deeper Queens or Brooklyn, but even saying that LaGuardia is better for that. JFK is about twice the distance as Newark or LaGuardia. Hope this helps !
I got a flight to Newark airport and transferred onto a train into Penn station and it was so easy and affordable and didn't take very long! Just early morning normal commuters too

Taxis have a flat rate to the airport. $52, I believe. I assume the price is the same to go back to Manhattan. Much cheaper than Uber and faster/easier than air train, train and subway.
It would be cool if you did a video on your main channel about fusion energy. There are 3 private fusion companies in Seattle you could interview: Helion, Zap Energy, and Avalanche Energy. Nuclear plants currently use fission but fusion is a different technology. Because the fuel have to constantly be added for the reaction to continue it is impossible to have a nuclear meltdown (run away chain reaction). Fusion energy is renewable, safe, and no emissions other than water vapor. It also could produce 2 to 4 times more energy than fission and it seems to be the future of energy production.

Just read in the Bloomberg BusinessWeek how the airport lounges are becoming more popular, thus much more crowded, with waiting lines. Not sure if this is an aberration, or Shelby is luckier than most?
The subway connects to the air train at the Howard beach and Jamaica stations. the LIRR is just another option that I wouldn’t recommend because it’s just another option that’s more expensive and then you might have to jump on the subway afterwards. Just jump on the subway for $2.75 and then if you have to transfer, it won’t cost you anything extra like LIRR.
As a native New Yorker, I would NOT recommend taking the air train to JFK. An uber or taxi is your best option. I would love to see a video on how much the delta card costs you per ueay, and how much use you got out of it in a year!
You took a weird route: From JFK, AirTrain to Jamaica [hub] station then just take the E into Manhattan. Once you enter the NYCT Subway network you are there for all the transfers you require.
I’m glad you where able to get a visit into my glory city@@ABiteBetterbyEva , there are fascinating, unnecessary hacks when traveling in & out during odd hours. I made it a point to avoid LGA after coming back from MCO on a Saturday afternoon. I cannot use that airport again until the AirTrain project is completed.
I usually prefer to fly into EWR rather than JFK bc then you only need to take 2 trains - 1 directly from the airport to penn station and then (for me) the A train. I agree JFK air train is a pain and last time the 7 train was cancelled because someone jumped off the platform 🥶
If possible, fly into LaGuardia Airport (LGA). I flew first-class into there multiple times this summer and it is a very well-ugraded, clean airport. It is closer to Manhattan and has a designated Uber area for you to get a ride in less than 5 minutes. Love the content by the way.
Went to NYC in May, took AirTrain to LIRR straight into Penn Station. I was staying nearby so i didn't have to get onto the subway again. If i had to get somewhere the LIRR wasn't going directly then i would've just taken the subway straight from Jamaica into the city. Otw back to JFK, i took the subway all the way to Jamaica and AirTrain into the actual airport. Both trips were fine, saved myself a decent bit of money since i had a 7 day subway pass so I only paid for AirTrain twice + LIRR + 7 day subway pass (which i needed regardless) If spending ~$100 is nothing you, Uber/Lyft will be much more comfortable.

I've had good experiences going from the city to JFK but also find it a terrible hassle going from JFK to the city. not worth it in the end unless there's a massive surge and it's like 100+ for an uber and you don't want to spend that.
We’ve gone to NYC multiple times honestly I rather splurge on a Uber specially on the way back never again doing the subway the stairs with your suit care are a hassle!

I've taken the train from JFK to the upper east side before and yes, it was long, but I think I only took the air train and then the subway so it was more like 15 dollars probably? But I'm not sure anymore 🤔 But I remember it being okay, but then again I'm from Paris and here, I also take three metros to get to the train station or the airport haha so I guess I'm used to it 😅
I prefer to just Uber to the airport, but if you do take the airtrain again in the future, you don’t have to take the LIRR. You can take it directly to the subway. The A train will get you into Manhattan. Hope you enjoyed your trip otherwise! 😊

This really sounds like a complicated route. I usually just take the air train and then the subway. That's a lot simpler when you don't have to have another ticket type for a train in-between
I've never needed to take the LIRR to/from JFK. That having been said, LGA is more convenient and cheaper. Of course I haven't been to NYC in over a year and won't until the NYC Marathon where I'm flying into/out of LGA thankfully.
i do not know if when you are in Europe, you will be going to Italy. When in Italy, you should travel in Italy by train. Between big cities, Cinque Terre, and such. So CHEAP! clean, AC and room to work...You will be able to edit your video on the train with free wifi. Very different than public transport in the USA... In 2010, homeless people would sleep in the NY subway wagons. So a homeless person could have 1/2 wagon to himself. In 2011, in Amsterdam, our train (clean, with tables, lots of room) was delayed because the police came over to escort a homeless person that wanted to sleep on the train out of the train. We should provide Homeless people with shelter, but we should not repurpose the NY subway as a homeless shelter.

I lived in NY area. The best way to get to NY is fly to Newark, and take the bus to NY Port Authority. Or Path train. Newark is a lot closer.

Otw back to JFK, i took the subway all the way to Jamaica and AirTrain into the actual airport.
Both trips were fine, saved myself a decent bit of money since i had a 7 day subway pass so I only paid for AirTrain twice + LIRR + 7 day subway pass (which i needed regardless)
If spending ~$100 is nothing you, Uber/Lyft will be much more comfortable.

I've had good experiences going from the city to JFK but also find it a terrible hassle going from JFK to the city. not worth it in the end unless there's a massive surge and it's like 100+ for an uber and you don't want to spend that.

We’ve gone to NYC multiple times honestly I rather splurge on a Uber specially on the way back never again doing the subway the stairs with your suit care are a hassle!

I've taken the train from JFK to the upper east side before and yes, it was long, but I think I only took the air train and then the subway so it was more like 15 dollars probably? But I'm not sure anymore 🤔 But I remember it being okay, but then again I'm from Paris and here, I also take three metros to get to the train station or the airport haha so I guess I'm used to it 😅
I prefer to just Uber to the airport, but if you do take the airtrain again in the future, you don’t have to take the LIRR. You can take it directly to the subway. The A train will get you into Manhattan. Hope you enjoyed your trip otherwise! 😊

The reason to take the train to/from JFK is because it costs way less than an Uber or cab, not to save time/for convenience 😅
I've never needed to take the LIRR to/from JFK. That having been said, LGA is more convenient and cheaper. Of course I haven't been to NYC in over a year and won't until the NYC Marathon where I'm flying into/out of LGA thankfully.
i do not know if when you are in Europe, you will be going to Italy.
When in Italy, you should travel in Italy by train. Between big cities, Cinque Terre, and such. So CHEAP! clean, AC and room to work...You will be able to edit your video on the train with free wifi. Very different than public transport in the USA...
In 2010, homeless people would sleep in the NY subway wagons. So a homeless person could have 1/2 wagon to himself. In 2011, in Amsterdam, our train (clean, with tables, lots of room) was delayed because the police came over to escort a homeless person that wanted to sleep on the train out of the train.
We should provide Homeless people with shelter, but we should not repurpose the NY subway as a homeless shelter.

I hate the taste of eggs but they are a good way for me to get some protein because I'm not a big fan of meat lol I use a pinch of salt, black pepper, onion, garlic, paprika, and cayenne pepper to season. Along with some veggies, it makes them taste not so bad and a little spicy lol I love spicy food

the train from Newark airport to Penn station is ok, the rest are awful
New York and quite a few hospitals on that side of the coast have top notch Cancer Care. Much better than any other part of the USA. even LA and the west coast. Sloan Kettering Cancer center in NY is top notch. NY is too much like Chicago and even more expensive. why I don't live there.
