    Whites Powersports are a big company, but they're new to and wary of this whole UA-cam thing... Let's show them how awesome this community is and how much we appreciate their gamble on us 💪 bits4bikes.co.nz?bg_ref=977:BQl1xy8Lrs
    And who else is excited for the big showdown? Do you think we've successfully crafted a 'KTM Killer' or not quite there yet? Comment what you think!

      I know it’s a very advanced project, but the biggest thing you should add is the yz250x gearing. You can get the kit from yamaha or other distributors. I was able to open the bottom end on my bike with no issues and I’m just 14.

      i have a yz 250x that ive been modifying for similar type of riding (soft hard enduro) and ive had great luck with apex racing XC head for more low end power. Ive also ordered and installed a softer more "linear" power valve spring from a company in australia called Cisco racing, it takes away that sharp and aggressive mid power valve hit. Ive also modified the clutch actuator arm and made it a little longer to provide a larger contact patch and a easier pull!

    Ash unless you add a heavy flywheel weight you’ll never change the fact that it’s a race bike with a race trans and race gearing, adding the weight will increase traction 10x, make the bike lug through hills, it’s the only real way to compete with the counterbalanced ktms

    • @njmxjunkie3128
      @njmxjunkie3128 2 роки тому +18

      Not to mention how badly your stalling at every small
      Obstacle. Honestly I’d put an 11 oz flywheel weight WAYY higher in value than the electric start. The electric starts Great when you stall in awkward situations however those situations won’t make you stall anymore with a heavy weight

    • @njmxjunkie3128
      @njmxjunkie3128 2 роки тому +11

      Other things you can do that will help substantially are, adding an 18” wheel with a wider heavier rear tire. Beefier chain and steel sprockets. All of this will somewhat take away from that sharp 2 stroke hit and smooth it out. That moving mass will stop you from stalling and just let that rear tire dig and give you great traction

    I've seen this attempted before. After about $4k + the price of the YZ it was just ok. The way those YZ's come on the powerband is sumthing you can't beat out of them. After an 11oz fly wheel weight & 12 oz we felt like we were getting closer so we got a weighted clutch basket. 14oz weight difference. We ran out of room to for a bigger flywheel. The basket felt significantly smoother but you still had cover clutch if locking up the rear tire. After all is said & done our bike was okay in GNCC races but not for hard Enduro. I definitely wouldn't trust myself to tame powerband on unpredictable roots. I enjoy your attempt, I wish you luck.

    Stalling issue could be resolved with an auto clutch.. Normally I'm not a huge advocate for them, but in your case it may help since you're riding a track bike on slow single track and you really like to lug that motor around. Your riding style requires a lot of precise clutch work to keep that mx engine spinning. Trust me, I know your pain, I enduroed a 96 yz 250, its alot of work. Adding a few teeth to your rear sprocket may help as well but you might need a flywheel weight to keep it tame.

It's just how I ride, a magura won't actually make it any lighter and won't improve the feel either, just change it and give more consistency when hot. This type of riding doesn't heat the clutch up enough to change the feel though so it's not a problem

RK Tech head, heavy flywheel,18 inch rear wheel all of it Then I bought a 2018 KTM 300 Xcw and sold the Yz. The Yz will not be a Ktm killer no mater how much you sink into it. The Ktm 300 engine lugs like no tomorrow and the clutch is incredible. The Yz suspension was for sure better ill say that much. Another thing I did was retard the timing 2 degrees on the Yz and that made a big difference in taming down the hit of the motocross engine for single track and enduro use. Highly recommend it. There is a write up on Thumpertalk on how to do it.

    • @EarthSurferUSA
      @EarthSurferUSA Місяць тому

      Usually good things to do for a MX bike used in the woods. But in this case, IMO, the YZ250 is pretty poor in the lower rpm range, (I have the bike, and modified it a lot), and adding flywheel weight to that will make it track the super slippery stuff better, but be sluggish down there too. For my engine mods, I use a FMF Gnarley pipe, V-Force reeds (with no aluminum spacer plate), and lowered the cylinder, (No cylinder base gasket, but seal it well), to get the compression up, (have to run 100 octane gas) and match the porting better to the lower rpm pipe. Now it pulls great from down low, and still revs good. Great for my whooped out single track riding, and it would take a flywheel weight well. I would have to say though for suspension, having to modify it is usually not needed. There is a lot to adjust, from spring rates, to oil viscosity to oil height (forks), and of course the dampening clickers, (which can be out of range I bet still sometimes). I lowered my suspension .75" though,--and it made a huge difference. :)

    It's crazy how much better a 6 speed tranny is over a 5 for offroad, and get the heaviest flywheel you can get. You can't even tell any difference with the small weights

    On my yz125 we put a 2mm spacer on the Reed box - not sure if you can in the 250 but helped bottom end a lot. On my 250x I put a traction disc on the clutch. Search it on internet. Not sure if it’s just in South Africa or what but helped a lot

    That's the problem the high compression on regular yz..add water in the woods or anywhere really off road now it's a handfull ..for me if u ride both mx and off road get a mx bike ..it's alot easier and cheaper to make a mxbike trail friendly than a off road bike a good mxbike...the gear box is the difference

    You just have to work out that throttle when your clutch in stopping. I have a 97 yz250 big bore kit that snubs out with a perfect carb setup. Its just the nature of the beast

    Blend and polish the exhaust port if you haven't already, polish up your power valves so they don't drag when opening, check the carb spacer it may stick up in the airport.
    Stock the exhaust port is coated with the cylinder hardening material and is rough and cobbley.
    Let her breath!

    Adjust the rear brake peddle so more toe input is required to engage the brake, might reduce the locking up and killing the motor a bit. I used to have that problem too but adjusting the peddle pretty much cured it.

    changing the clutch to hydraulic may cause less stalling, due to the fact you might have more of a wider engagement point / feel?

      KTM is responsible for the ugly plastic movement. Now all the bikes plastic looks like it came from a bunch of graduates from the "Batman school of meaningless abstract art.". :)

    Mine used to do the same stalling thing.i was using oem clutch plates and yamalube gear oil.i changed to Barnett clutches,steel and fibres and started using belray gearsaver oil,made a huge improvement

      You can also lower your brake pedal a bit, turn up the idle a bit, and use the clutch when braking at very slow speeds. The only way a different clutch will work better to avoid stalling,---is if it slips. :)

      Low rpm's letting off the throttle with the clutch out to far and on the rear brake.

      I third this! Rekluse (Radius CX) and LHRB - hands down the best money I have spent on my 250X. Imagine trail riding for 3 hours through this type of terrain and NEVER having to touch the clutch OR stall the bike, while jamming the rear brake (without moving your right foot) as much as you like... its a thing of beauty. (clutch is still there if you do feel like or have the need to use it). better IMHO than spending that money on a E start.

    smart carbs dont add power, they just blow bikes up. if you want more power just tune it. or get it tuned by a proffesional

    • @SmartCarbFuelSystems

      Name one person owning a SmartCarb SC2 using the correct metering rod, having correctly installed it, and having properly tuned it that has blown their bike up; we'll wait. Doesn't happen. Furthermore they do add power as is well documented 1st and 3rd party. Diogo Vieira won 2 Portuguese National Super Enduro Championships using the SmartCarb SC2 on his YZ250. They are currently used by professional racers/mechanics in the USA and Europe. We encourage you to do some more research on our product before putting these type of statements out there.
