You're the best! I love all your videos and music, but the way you interact with your fans and other creators who appreciate your work is so cool. And yeah, The Charismatic Voice is awesome with all her insight too! ;) Keep doing what you're both doing!
Oh my gosh 🤍 This was incredible to watch you break everything down - thank you so much for all of the love! So glad you enjoyed this Medley from Peter and me 🤍✨
Amalee you were absolutely awesome! It's obvious you know these anime characters too so it made it an even more engaging portrayal for each of them! Your voice is great. You could actually sing to some metal music as Elizabeth hinted. (Your low notes are sweet!)
Years ago, i had the chance to talk to the German Voice of Pikachu (before the Japanese forced the rest of the world to use the japanese voice internationally). She told us, that the role itself was not only difficult (3 syllables to communicate all emotion) but also slowly crept into her normal life (Her husband asked, how her day was and it was so bad, she just answered "chuuuu~" and leaned into him). Great woman, great actress, voicing a lot of main characters in anime back in the 90s in Germany and she still is our Lisa Simpson.
Hi Elisabeth I only wanna qiuck mention, the first line of the "Attack on Titan" opening is not japanese, but german. You can translate it with "We are not the prey. We are the hunters" (literaly they say not Beute=prey but Essen= food/eating/meal) By the way, love your reactions
Wait I just realised they used the wrong lyrics in the medley so you are right witrh the first comment but the original lyrics are what I described sorry for jumping the gun.
As a former Comic Con cosplayer, I'm all for this Epic Anime Medley ❤ Great pick for My Choice Tuesday Liz, although I was expecting you to come up as Aerith Gainsborough. 1) Favorite anime series of all time: Yuyu Hakusho and Saint Seiya 2) Favorite anime film: Anything Studio Ghibli but ngl I'm intrigued by Satoshi Kon's work like Perfect Blue and Paprika.
Hi Juliette, that's so cool to hear that you're a former Comic-Con Cosplayer. I was fortunate enough to take a photo w/ Jessica Nigri and a few others back in 2014...the last time I ever attended a convention. I was expecting Elizabeth to dress up as Squirrel Girl or wearing the Red Panda Ears. 😉
The beginning of Attack on Titan is in German, saying: "Sie sind das Essen wir sind die Jäger" which translates into something like: They are the food we are the hunters. It doesn't make a lot of sense in German either for this anime as i remember but it does sound Epic :D Keep up the good reactions. Favorite Anime by now (still watching a lot) is either Ancient Magus Bride, just a gorgeous show i would recommend everybody, or Black Butler, with this awesomely polite but evil, one hell of a Butler.
they pronounce it badly, but it's supposed to be "Seid ihr das Essen? Nein wir sind die Jäger!" which means Are you the food? No we are the hunters! and it makes tons of sense cause it refers to how the titans eat humans so it's a question answer style of them saying that they aren't just resigned to their fate and are fighting back
I find it amusing that the oldest and most iconic of these anime is the only one you don't recognize. Amalee's rendition of Cruel Angel's Thesis is great, and I highly recommend finding the full version. They don't do the hard parts in this medly, and the way she gets the translation to scan in the full song is fantastic.
Evangelion was first released in the mid-1990s, back then it was hard to watch anime in Western countries. Here in Brazil we had some people doing fansubs in VHS tapes, but they were hard to find.
@@vinnycordeiro You can find rebuild of Evangelion, though. These are pretty recent, going from the late 2000s to this year. And yes, even in Brazil, it's on Amazon Prime.
my skin keeps crawling due to the awful German in the opening. Just once, i would be happy if they asked someone, who actually speaks German, to help them in those cases... There are quiet a few series that take German for spells or names, but it's never natural usage and feels like someone just threw a dictionary against a wall until some pages flew out...
@@TwilightxOblivion and they're not learning... Neon Genesis Evangelion already had bad German and that's 20 years old now... But Anime is not the only medium with that problem, the Latin in horror and fantasy movies will always irk me, even if i had that only a few years in school, some 20 years back. Image if bad Latin chanting would actually summon a demon and the first thing the demon does, is remark on their awful pronunciation and inform them, that he will take them with him for educational purposes, if they ever get it wrong again :P
@@caligo7918 they do the same thing with any foreign language. I've seen literally thousands of anime and I can count on one hand the amount of times I've heard good English.
@@brianhalligan9268 The backstory of how this came to be is also an interesting one. The composer of several of the AoT theme songs (Revo) is an Epica fan and when they played in Japan he went to their dressing room and asked if they wanted to do English versions of his songs. I believe I read in an article somewhere his AoT songs were inspired by Epica's music.
The opening line of the Attack on Titan theme is in German. This is true for both the English version and the Japanese version of the song. The show is implied to be set in what was once Germany.
It’s actually what would be Madagascar in our world (Paradis Island that is, Marley is in continental Africa), that being said, their world isn’t our world. Isayama just didn’t want to make a map so he used a modified version of our world’s map
28:14 The opening for season 1 of "Attack on Titan" is in German. The words are: "Seid ihr das Essen? Nein, wir sind der Jäger! " Translation: "Are you the food/meal? No, we are the hunters!"
Now that your channel has stepped into the Anime realm, you definitely need to react to the singer(LiSA) of the Demon Slayer song. There's another channel called THE FIRST TAKE where artists go there to sing their songs and they only have 1 take to get it right (sometimes they do mess up). It's worth checking out even if it doesn't make into a reaction video. This is the title of the video: "LiSA - Gurenge (紅蓮華) / THE FIRST TAKE"
Ama is dressed as Asuka in the bottom middle square, from Neon Genesis Evangelion. She's singing an English version of Cruel Angel's Thesis. Original is in Japanese, but the English version that Amalee sings is one of my faves - would definitely recommend if you'd love to check out anymore of her work. That or her cover of Fullmetal Alchemist's Melissa are both beautiful covers. Evangelion is a great anime and I highly recommend it if you haven't seen it.
Names and Anime: Monkey D. Luffy from One Piece Shoto Todoroki and Almight from My Hero Academia Winry Rockbell from Fullmetal Alchemist Ash Ketchum and Pikachu from Pokemon Naruto Uzumaki from Naruto Shippuden Nezuko Kamado from Demon Slayer Asuka Langley Soryu from Neon Genesis Evangelion Eren Jaeger from Attack on Titan (who turns into a Titan at the end) (I love anime lol)
I mean, Peter never fails to please with these (he actually got a lot more arrangements like this one, almost all the mashup medleys got something similar to this going ^^), but the best thing is you here going full-blown anime geek here 🥰 Especially since as a teen I got some much heat for loving this kind of shows only because practically my whole class watched daily soaps instead of something like these :/ By the way, the lyrics in the AOT - opening are in my Native Tongue German ;) They're Gernan in the original Japanese versions, too. The composer - Hiroyuki Sawano - (by the way, give his works a listen, they're gorgeous) that did write the scores for that often weaves in foreign languages, apparently the band that did the opening (it was Linked Horizon if I remember right) did, too. Bonus note: Epica did an EP with covers of those, if you haven't listened to them yet :)
Usually I enjoy learning stuff from you and watching you giggle at my favorite metal songs... but today I enjoyed your knowledge on anime. You just got way cooler. A funny little references was the "jelly doughnut" at 19:59 is taking the piss out of the American censorship. They called the rice balls, jelly doughnuts, in an attempt to... I guess Americanize the pokemon anime. Also the girl in the red jumpsuit is Asuka from evangelion, which is another really dark anime, it's older than all the others but it's legendary. ALso the attack on titan theme song I'm pretty sure is a mix of German and Japanese. Good thing they didn't add Italian or we'd have a problem. ALSO you were right on the MHA guy his full name is Shoto Todoroki.
This is a GREAT selection of anime songs and fun to nerd out too. I've seen parts of at least most of these if not the whole thing. I love your reactions/breakdowns of the songs you have done. So much information and I LOVE it! Fullmetal Alchemist is probably my favorite anime ever (both Brotherhood and non-brotherhood versions are amazing for different reasons), and by the way, it's Winry (no f.) She is one of my favorite characters, especially in Brotherhood where she is has a much larger part than in the non-brotherhood version. :D Amalee did a great job on that song too, because it's not easy and the same with the Evangelion theme! Evangelion is also a good anime, and the Attack on Titan theme he chose (since there are multiple of them) is SO well done! I love that song so much too, and it's TOTALLY worth giving another shot, although it stays pretty gritty! Peter and Amalee were great together throughout this whole thing!
And honestly, for as great as Dragonball is, it's not really known for its openings as much as some of these are. I love Mystical Adventure and Cha la Head Cha la as much as the next guy, but they dont come up in Dragonball conversations that much lol.
@Gameorama91 Cha-la Head Cha-la is pretty popular here in Brazil. Not only DBZ was one of the most watched animes by 90's kids here, but the specific PT-BR version of that opening is very catchy.
I love Peter Hollens’ music. He’s a master of self layering. Suggestion for a future reaction, Geoff Castalucci has a new cover out of Sixteen Tons that I think you would enjoy.
Would reccomend Jonathan Young and especially Be Prepared from Lion King, for Anime covers honestly his Unravel - Tokyo Ghoul cover is possibly the greatest anime cover of all time :3
Definitely the best reactor on UA-cam. Has the knowledge, the love of craft, and is adorable and nerdy. And is so friendly and bubbly! Makes my day to watch these reactions.
Way late comment I know, but Amalee did a full version of 'Gurenge' (the 'Demon Slayer' song you liked here) and another one called 'Homura' - both brilliant covers.
If you like anime I'd recommend a reaction to Jonathan Young's Attack on titan opening 1. It's pretty much the best rendition of the song (in English) that I've come across.
Hi Elizabeth, I Loved this performance and your reaction! It's been over 40 years since I watched Anime but Peter and Amalee performed a Fantastic and Fun Medley! Thank You, Elizabeth, for bringing back memories from the past!!! ❤ ❤ ❤
you should check out Wagakki Band, they have traditional Japanese sound mixed with modern rock, they have even performed Bring Me To Life with Amy Lee on stage! Very cool band!
My favorite composer is actually Kanno Yoko who is best known as the composer for Cowboy Bebop and Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex, but she also did the music for Turn A Gundam, The Vision of Escaflowne, which is my favorite anime and thus is in my profile picture, Macross Plus, and a hoard of incredible music in more shows and movies than I can name.
Great Job. I love the video as Peter Hollens is fantastic and the analysis of it was well done. Seeing you fangirl over anime and stuff is awesome too as an anime buff myself. Amazing video.
Neon genesis Evangelion (A Cruel angel's thesis) was sub par here. You should check out the original song and also the show is in Netflix. It's legendary.
As a hobby sound engineer and stage hand on many anime conventions over the last 20 years, my favourite anime is still "Ghost in the Shell", the original japanese version. The cinematography, the animation quality and the amazing soundtrack carried the deep story through grand action scenes.
My introduction to Peter Hollens was a duet he did with Lindsey Stirling on Skyrim. Since I know that you like her as well, you should check it out. Of course, Baba Yetu is one of my favorite Peter Hollens cover. I highly recommend both.
If you appreciate the character interactions in this video, I'd also highly recommend other medleys by Peter Hollens such as his Epic Dreamworks Medley with Brian Hull as well as Peter's Epic Halloween Medley.
🙂 You were smiling from ear to ear throughout the video. The joy was palpable! This video was a true delight to me. I went to watch the original as soon as I was finished with your analysis and my comment. It's the combination of characters imitation, story points in the lyrics, personalities in the vocal styles for each character, the blending of interactions between characters, the musical identity of each anime being captured, and this all being done with the voice and editing. Great singing and acting from the both of them. This was almost a musical! And regarding the language, we're not sure if they used the exact translated lyrics in the subtitled anime or they had to rework the words to fit the musical tempo abba arrangement (since the songs were all written in the Japanese language)! This was a masterclass of writing, composing, arranging, performing, recording, mixing, and editing, visually, audibly, and emotionally impactful. I thoroughly enjoyed watching an obvious anime fan review this. Made it a whole lot more fun as I'm sure it would be for other anime fans. Sharing with people that love anime and music.
I loved the video and have watched it so many times since it debuted, but watching your analysis and expertise on it has brought a whole new level of respect and enjoyment to it. LeeandLie was also new to me before the video and I am really enjoying going through her music and hearing her wonderful talents. Thank you so much for sharing your reaction and thoughts on this! Also, favorite anime is Trigun...It was my gateway anime that started it and holds a special spot...a spot of LOVE AND PEACE!!!!
omg yay about time you did anime based songs BIG ANIME FAN HERE LOVE IT if i could like this a million times i would PLEASE DO MORE VIDS LIKE THIS THANK YOU FOR THIS VID
If you found this really funny you should surely check out Peter his song with Brian hull for the Disney sidekick medley. It's really awsome to listen to and is soooo funny. The interaction between Peter and Brian is hilarious
Huge fan of both of them. AmaLee translates japanese openings to english as especially nowadays most are solely japanese. She is doing a great job making it singable and still true to it's meaning. As for the last song, the first lines of the first attack on titan opening song are german. As a german I had to take a moment to realize this cause I was expecting japanese the first time I heard it, but german has become more implemented in animes.
Great choice! This was such a fun medley by two awesome singers (long time fans of both of them), and they did an amazing job with everything, musically and visually. So cool to hear that you're an anime fan as well! My favorite anime I think tends to go back and forth between Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood, Cowboy Bebop, and Samurai Champloo depending on what day or particular moment you ask me. If you somehow haven't seen the latter two they are legendary and the music in them is equally incredible! Also, my favorite currently airing anime is easily Attack on Titan (though My Hero Acadamia is super fun as well)!
If you're wanting something that shows both Peter and Amalee going crazy with vocals and emotion, you should check out their cover of "Weight of the World" over on Amalee's channel.
Amalee's cover of Aldnoah: Zero's theme made me watch the entire show, haha. I'm so glad you enjoyed this and discovered her! Your videos are so joyful!
I loved your reaction and the fact that you geeked out as much as I did when I watched it the first time, lol. I noticed you said a couple of times during your review, that Attack on Titan "was very gritty for an anime". I'm not sure what anime you're used to watching, but anime is an art style that can portray as many varied genres as live-action movies (it's not just kid stuff). Which is why, as dark/gritty as Attack on Titan is, it holds nothing on Neon Genesis Evangelion; which is actually a much more brutal series imo (it was bad enough that not all the episodes were aired on television, same thing happened with Cowboy Bebop actually), and there are others that are far more ... I guess disturbing? would be the right way to say it. Paranoia Agent, Monster, Perfect Blue, Gantz, Akira etc. are all great examples of what would be considered adult-themed anime. Thematically they're on level with movies like The Expendables, The Matrix, Predator, Aliens etc. I've only ever been able to watch the Studio Ghibli film "Grave of Fireflies" once, it is a VERY dark film (especially for a company famous for it's kid-friendly movies), and it took tons of ice-cream and upbeat pop music to get me out of the depression after watching it (I believe it's based on a true account of two Japanese orphans during WWII, which makes it so much harder to watch). For me personally, my favorite adult anime series would be The Galaxy Express, followed closely by The Ghost in the Shell series. For a more kid-friendly series, One Piece and Rune Soldier are my first and second choices. Stand-alone movie wise, I'm tied between Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind, and Howl's Moving Castle (both are Studio Ghibli films). Manga-wise, my hands down favorite has to be Psyren (which is a post-apocalyptic series about as dark as the Resident Evil franchise, I keep hoping it'll eventually get an anime adaptation), but One Piece is my kid-friendly favorite.
Finally a new a Cappella reaction!!! This was awesome! Please more VoicePlay, Home Free and Pentatonix! By the way, if you like Peter Hollens you will also like Tomi P! He‘s doing a very similar a Cappella style with layering his voice a lot. AND he‘s a bass singer, so there are massive low notes in his arrangements. But the crazy thing is that he has amazing control of his high range as well... Just check him out! I recommend his „No Time To Die“ Cover.
Neon Genesis Evangelion is actually a massively influential show. It is an extremely complex, deep piece, that managed to achieve massive popularity and become international classic. It manages to be simultaniously sad, deep, insightful and very uplifting. Can't recommend it enough. Also the very song, featured in this video, Cruel Angel's Thesis, for many anime fans is THE anime song, the sound of it screams "awesome anime" like few other things do. Aaand since we touched on Japanese music I would like to recommend a song to react to: Rokuchounen to Ichiya Monogatari by Wagakki Band. An amazing fusion of rock and traditional japasese music.
You should really check out Tomi P - No Time To Die. Or Sound Of Silence. Emerging Acappella bass singer /arranger. Take a peek at least. That way we dont get this awkward moment later on when you're exclaiming "Why didn't anyone tell me about him ?" 🦋✨
Todoroki's full name is Todoroki Shoto, but (based on my limited understanding of Japanese custom) only family or close friends would ever call him by Shoto.
yes, Shoto is his first name as we'd call it, it's not really consistent on what fans call characters though, most people I know call him Todoroki, but typically depends on how close you feel to the character
I liked this one and love your reactions. 🤩👍👍👍 I love hearing Peter, but going all the way at your side, made me taste and delight every single part of this video.
Talking about anime metal songs, there's an entire Epica album covering every single Attack on Titan openings till 2017 ("Epica vs attack on titan songs"). It's definitely worth checking out.
I would love to see a breakdown of Ghost In The Shell's "Inner Universe" sung by the late great Origa. She is hands down my favorite female vocalist of all time. Her voice elicits transcendent experiences.
As if I didn't love you enough before, you go and do this! Amazing reaction and absolutely loved the nerding out! You always GO BEYOND! PLUS ULTRA! 😂 I nerded out right along with you. ❤️
With Attack on Titan, I think the musical piece that blows me away more than any other is "YouSeeBigGirl". Especially when it plays in the show. The goosebumps that that musical piece causes is beautiful.
Can’t wait for it. Hopefully also on your list is Home Free doing American Pie with Don Mclean for the 50th anniversary of the song. I’d say it’s up there as one of their all time bests.
This was great! Would absolutely love to hear you analyze more anime music on the channel. Here's a few suggestions: "Ai yo Kienaide" by Kahoru Kohiruimaki "Dunbine Tobu" by MIQ "Yusyaou Tanjo!" by Masaaki Endoh "Getter Robo Theme" by Isao Sasaki "Butter-Fly" by Kouji Wada "We Are!" by Hiroshi Kitadani And nearly any song by Hironobu Kageyama.
YES THANK YOU FOR INDULGING ME (and all your other Charismaniacs xD). My anime phase is long past, but I still love the soundtracks. And nerds unite! Never be scared of letting yours run wild, that's why we're here, and combined with the vocal nerdery it makes it even more interesting to watch. And because you liked the interaction between the characters so much, I wholehartedly recommend the villains medley from Peter, which he did together with Whitney Avalon. Her voice is just something else entirely, and I think you'll really like it. As for the other recommendations that I'll keep making :P - Patty Gurdy, and especially her live version of her song "Run" at Lexington, or her one-take live version of Eurythmic's "Sweet Dreams". - Larkin Poe. Anything from their Tip o' the Hat cover series here on UA-cam, or their original song "Bleach Blonde Bottle Blues", especially the live version from their porch pickin' stream, starting at 4:15 ua-cam.com/video/mNKxZfJyzKQ/v-deo.html&ab_channel=LarkinPoe Rebecca has the most amazing rock-bluesy voice, and her sister Megan is the Queen of slide guitar and does some amazing harmonies to Rebecca. Their live, stripped-down duo performances really showcase their amazingness.
Dear i've been watching your video's now for a while this one the range of emotion on your face at the very beginning was amazing keep up the good work
Holy crap, wait what?? I heard this for the first time a few minutes ago, and watching you react to it I now know that every single instrument was also made with vocals! This is incredible
Elizabeth, please please react to Peter and Nick Pitera's "Wicked Medley". It's Freakin' amazing!!! Also, Peter's version of Queen's "Don't Stop Me Now".....I love it!!! You won't be sorry..... :)
I love your breakdowns :) Please (please) react at some point to Peter Hollens collaborating with Malukah (very talented singer/songwriter from Monterey, Mexico IIRC) on “Baba Yetu”. This was music written for the game Civilization IV, and won its composer (Christopher Tin) a Grammy - the first piece of music written for a computer game to be recognised in this way. And it is also one of my favourite music pieces of all time, lol :). Geeks of the world, unite! (Oh, forgot to mention - song is based around the words of The Lord’s Prayer. In Swahili.)
Wow that was an epic one. The coda just raises the degree of epic'ness even more high! An excellent work on characters, on the atmosphere for each of them, and the Eren's part just tops it all to perfection. Considering the theme was from first season of Attack on Titan, where there is only the Survey Corps having a real Hope, and they are the only having the unbeatable will to make humanity free and safe. Wow, yes, I was just left speechless. And thank you for bringing this review :) It really is a pleasure to see professional having same nerd'y (kind of) hobbies like watching animes (makes my heart raise UwU ):)
My favorite anime by far is Neon Genesis Evangelion, represented here by Amalee dressed as Asuka singing her English cover of the opening, Cruel Angels Thesis, which also happens to be my favorite anime intro. NGE is such an amazing and classic anime, and I highly recommend it to anyone who hasn't seen it yet.
When they went from Cruel Angel's Thesis ( one of the best songs from anime in my opinion ) they started the song Feuer Roter Pfeil und Bogen in German. Favorite anime is hard to pinpoint, but Madoka Magica really had one of the best stories I've ever seen so I'll go with that one. Thanks for bringing this medley to my attention and providing all this amazing content!
Most people are only familiar with the more popular shonen (teenage boys') anime like the ones featuring in this medley, but that only touches the surface of the depth of anime genres. There are as much genres in anime as there are in live action series (maybe even a few more, or ones that are barely represented in live action) For instance there are a lot of music related series where you follow people trying to become a superstar, or start their band, or series where songs are used as a powerful weapon.
You seriously seriously need to check out a band called Beast In Black and hear their singer. He also did a cover of Ghost Love Score that was amazing!
You've picked some of my favorites to react to. I've listened to Peter Hollens for years now! All of his covers are worth listening to! A similar guy who does all vocals and layering is Smooth McGroove, he mainly covers video game music. One of my favorite, non-gaming, cover of his is "Do You Realize?? Acapella - The Flaming Lips". I can't pick a favorite of his VG covers so I'll suggest "UNDERTALE - Megalovania Acapella" since it has the most views. His range and talent is amazing! Make sure you notice his kitty!
I was totally geeking out along with you over the character portrayals. Kudos for not getting too distracted that you couldn't break down the vocals for us for us. Can you react to Geoff Casteluccics "Sixteen Tons" soon? Also, are you familiar with Jonathan Young or Leo Moracchioli? They do some pretty awesome covers and I for one would love to hear your breakdowns of their work. Keep up the great job!
My thoughts excactly, almost word for word. Let's hope your comment catches Elizabeths attention. Although 'The sound of Silence' has been covered nearly to boredom, I find Tomi's version to be phenomenal - he really brings something different to the table, and 'No time to die' is great, too. Elizabeth has a trained ear and it would be interesting hearing her thoughts. Anyway, Tomi certainly deserves the exposure.
First of all I agree with Peter about your reaction, it's great because I really love the audio to this, and I love how you disect it, and I don't know any anime shows so you ve you've given me information, I did strongly support this video when it was first released and now I'm gonna give it another whirl with your perspective...much love, I'll watch a lot more of youre reactions🎉♥️
Your analysis and reaction was amazing. I loved watching you nerd out. I've heard if all the shows in the amazing medley but the only show I've watched the most of was Pokémon when I was kid in the late 90's and early 2000's
This was so awesome, especially because your sheer joy and enthusiasm! The redheaded girl character in the red outfit is Asuka from Neon Genesis Evangelion, one of my favourite anime. It's very psychologically heavy and (strangely enough) revolves around giant robots. The song she was featuring is Cruel Angel's Thesis. This is a live version of the japanese version with the original singer that recorded it: ua-cam.com/video/MjF6AkrXods/v-deo.html My all time favourite is still Mamoru Oshii's first Ghost In The Shell movie, though.
For the record, creating English covers of anime songs is kind of AmaLee's thing. I believe she writes the translations herself, which is no mean feat. Oh, and my favorite anime . . . probably Digimon just based on nostalgia. I also like Sailor Moon, Wotakoi, Arte and Tonikawa.
I'm not sure if you remember it, since it was on a video a couple months ago (The one with Peter Hollens, Home Free, and a backing virtual choir), but I had mentioned a virtual choir project that I took part in with the Stay at Home Choir featuring Voces8. It got released last weekend and (if I'm understanding the different numbers given) has just over 1300 people in the choir, plus the impeccable Voces8. More than 4300 people were involved in the rehearsals and other events related to it. Since you were so impressed with the 300 some people in Peter's video, I though you might enjoy this, plus Voces8 is always worth a listen: ua-cam.com/video/WrcP4thgbC4/v-deo.html
Another fantastic reaction and analysis. You're always an enjoyable watch and hearing your thoughts not only on the singing and music, but also the animes themselves was intersesting. Thank you. I'd like to recommend a couple more singers/bands for consideration. I'd be surprised if they haven't already been requested. Axl Rose of Guns n Roses fame has a very distinctive voice which might make for an interesting discussion. Also James Hetfield from Metallica, in particular Nothing Else Matters from their 1991 Black Album since this was the first album after James blew his voice out and starting training with a vocal coach. Perhaps something from their more bluesy mid 90s albums Load and Reload or their live album with the San Francisco Symphony Orchestra, S&M, would likely also provide some good fodder for analysis.
Amalee's voice has that sweetspot in her timbre that I can absolutely hang with. Makes me think of Hayley Williams' (Paramore) voice. 25:34 Lol, the character that I am most familiar with is the one that Elizabeth doesn't know. I would've thought Evangelion was universally known. By default, Evangelion is my favorite anime but only for the fact that it's the only one I've seen all the way through. I have nothing against the medium, it just didn't hit me at the right time in my life.
Favorite Anime is Yowamushi Pedal. It captures the feel of racing I felt as a kid/teen. Hyper-exaggerated, but that's what everything felt like, then. It has a lot of heart and feel-good emotions of an outcast otaku finding their place in a chosen family.
Not sure why or how i was recommended your videos ( i like metal i guess?) but after binging your videos for a very emotional 3 hours I am pretty sure I am in love. this video confirmed it.
You should consider checking out some of the music from Persona 5. It very anime and the vocals are very cool. Life Will Change and Rivers in the Desert, both have great live versions.
My favourite anime at this time is actually an Ecchi called "Highschool DxD" I loved the reaction, and can recommend reacting to more of Amalee's work - I really enjoy how she makes these fantastic English versions of well-known Japanese anime songs ^_-
Now I get to know you're watching anime?! Damn and I thought before you're amazing for your happy personality and that sweet infectious laugh of yours!
I'd love for you to react to more of the blues side of music. Mostly The Teskey Brothers, The Marcus King Band, and some soul from St. Paul and the Broken Bones. All three of these guys have amazing voices.
"Very gruesome for anime". Well, for the popular animes, maybe.😉 There are a lot of genres just like in music. And you should give it a try! For many people, it's the best anime ever (me included) or at least for the last decade. One Piece is awesome as well and also pretty serious at times.😁
Yeah, my first introduction to anime was the darker side. AOT, Death Note, etc. So my first perceptions of anime was that it was dark and gritty and super bloody lol
My introduction was Neon Genesis Evangelion (Asuka, the anime she didn't know), then Berserk, then Cowboy Bebop...my friend wanted to scar me for life (I was like 8 when I saw those). And my first Miyazaki was Princess Monanoke...at a sleep over (different friend). The mom was horrified, she thought it would be like My Neighbor Totoro or something. Lol. I didn't get into the mainstream anime until much later. America seems to prefer the more light and whimsical side of Anime (and yet still manages to ban an episode or 4 even in those).
Elizabeth you need to check out Epica doing Crimson Bow and Arrow from the Attack on Titan anime... The guy that composed the original is a fan of Epica and I think asked them to do a cover. There is no video just the album cover
I became a fan of your videos and your very detail explication of what is happening, and If I allowed, may I ask you reacting to another song of Iron Maiden? The song is The Talisman, but the live version taken from the EN VIVO dvd. Bruce's voice is just simple amazing. Greetings from Chile.
Your detail and education you provide to your audience is so far and away above any other "react" creator on the internet. Brilliant. 🙏
Thank you Peter Peter the amazing quality you deliver. I have enjoyed every single video of yours. You are a amazing singer and performer
You know, when an artist creates incredible content and impeccable vocals, it makes my job that much easier! 🙌
No mind me geeking the heck out out here. @Peter Hollens you 2 need to do another one with more Anime.....PLEASE 😁
As soon as that image popped out all I could hear was the Brady Bunch theme song. Which is going to be stuck in my head for days. Thanks for that.
So glad you enjoyed this Medley from Peter and me 🤍✨
Thank you, AmaLee! You were absolutely incredible in this, and I want more! MORE!!!
@@TheCharismaticVoice Maybe you could invite Amalee for a cup of Tea, and Nerd out together about Anime and singing :)
Amalee you were absolutely awesome! It's obvious you know these anime characters too so it made it an even more engaging portrayal for each of them!
Your voice is great. You could actually sing to some metal music as Elizabeth hinted.
(Your low notes are sweet!)
@@Nighteye2 I second the motion.
@@Nighteye2Thirded the motion :P
Years ago, i had the chance to talk to the German Voice of Pikachu (before the Japanese forced the rest of the world to use the japanese voice internationally). She told us, that the role itself was not only difficult (3 syllables to communicate all emotion) but also slowly crept into her normal life (Her husband asked, how her day was and it was so bad, she just answered "chuuuu~" and leaned into him). Great woman, great actress, voicing a lot of main characters in anime back in the 90s in Germany and she still is our Lisa Simpson.
I love this. Thank you for sharing this story!
Hi Elisabeth
I only wanna qiuck mention, the first line of the "Attack on Titan" opening is not japanese, but german. You can translate it with "We are not the prey. We are the hunters" (literaly they say not Beute=prey but Essen= food/eating/meal)
By the way, love your reactions
Not exactly the Lyrics go "Seid ihr das Essen? Nein wir sind die Jäger." Translated this would be "Are you the food? No we are the Hunters."
Wait I just realised they used the wrong lyrics in the medley so you are right witrh the first comment but the original lyrics are what I described sorry for jumping the gun.
The German could have been tied in with Asuka (evangellion) as she is German.
"Wir sind das Essen und sie sind die Jäger." (we are the food an they are the hunters). Greetings from Germany.
@@missvermin9322 Dachte ich zuerst auch beim hören aber stimmt nich schau in den offiziellen lyrics nach.
Peter's team-up with Lindsey Stirling for the Dragonborn Theme from Skyrim was legendary. Only voice & violin in that one, but you hear so much more!
Welcome to the Elizabeth Zharoff channel. Boldly going where no You Tube reactor has gone before. Entertaining and educating us along the way.
Thank you, John! Yes, no one is reacting to this insanely awesome medley... and when they do... FIRST!
@@TheCharismaticVoice When it comes to anime. My favorite is the work of Hayao Miyazacki. The music is well done as well.
As a former Comic Con cosplayer, I'm all for this Epic Anime Medley ❤ Great pick for My Choice Tuesday Liz, although I was expecting you to come up as Aerith Gainsborough.
1) Favorite anime series of all time: Yuyu Hakusho and Saint Seiya
2) Favorite anime film: Anything Studio Ghibli but ngl I'm intrigued by Satoshi Kon's work like Perfect Blue and Paprika.
Nice! Now I am intrigued.

The beginning of Attack on Titan is in German, saying: "Sie sind das Essen wir sind die Jäger" which translates into something like: They are the food we are the hunters. It doesn't make a lot of sense in German either for this anime as i remember but it does sound Epic :D
Keep up the good reactions.
Attack on Titan has become a modern masterpiece, I highly recommend watching it all. Gruesome, but worth it!
my skin keeps crawling due to the awful German in the opening. Just once, i would be happy if they asked someone, who actually speaks German, to help them in those cases... There are quiet a few series that take German for spells or names, but it's never natural usage and feels like someone just threw a dictionary against a wall until some pages flew out...
@@caligo7918 this was me when I watched Bleach and the butchered Spanish lmfaoooo
@@TwilightxOblivion the final arc proceeds to also butcher German since it heavily features the quincies

HOW DID I NOT KNOW THIS WAS A THING. Many thanks good sir
The words are:
"Seid ihr das Essen?
Nein, wir sind der Jäger! "
Translation:
"Are you the food/meal?
No, we are the hunters!"
Additionally the Whoas after the German are not part of the transition, they are part of the song.
Elizabeth : "Amalee should do metal."
Me: "She's doing Full Metal right now!!!"
badum tsss ayyy
Now that your channel has stepped into the Anime realm, you definitely need to react to the singer(LiSA) of the Demon Slayer song. There's another channel called THE FIRST TAKE where artists go there to sing their songs and they only have 1 take to get it right (sometimes they do mess up). It's worth checking out even if it doesn't make into a reaction video. This is the title of the video: "LiSA - Gurenge (紅蓮華) / THE FIRST TAKE"
I agree! LiSA would be a great reaction
I just love how DONE each of the Guys are when Ash starts Singing. They're all just like, "Who the heck are you? And why are you here?!"
Which is ironic because if it weren’t for him and naruto none of these animes would be as popular
Names and Anime:
Monkey D. Luffy from One Piece
Shoto Todoroki and Almight from My Hero Academia
Winry Rockbell from Fullmetal Alchemist
Ash Ketchum and Pikachu from Pokemon
Naruto Uzumaki from Naruto Shippuden
Nezuko Kamado from Demon Slayer
Asuka Langley Soryu from Neon Genesis Evangelion
Eren Jaeger from Attack on Titan (who turns into a Titan at the end)
(I love anime lol)
NAME: Elizabeth
CLASS: Bard
ALIGNMENT: Chaotic Adorable
Never change.
I mean, Peter never fails to please with these (he actually got a lot more arrangements like this one, almost all the mashup medleys got something similar to this going ^^), but the best thing is you here going full-blown anime geek here 🥰 Especially since as a teen I got some much heat for loving this kind of shows only because practically my whole class watched daily soaps instead of something like these :/
By the way, the lyrics in the AOT - opening are in my Native Tongue German ;) They're Gernan in the original Japanese versions, too.
I asked myself: "Where is Goku ?" but than realized he couldn't stand still long enough and would try to fight everyone so... he had to stay home.
LOLOL!
@@lucas.tamaki Cha-la Head Cha-la is like worshipped here in Mexico and pretty sure even more in Japan
I love Peter Hollens’ music. He’s a master of self layering. Suggestion for a future reaction, Geoff Castalucci has a new cover out of Sixteen Tons that I think you would enjoy.
Would reccomend Jonathan Young and especially Be Prepared from Lion King, for Anime covers honestly his Unravel - Tokyo Ghoul cover is possibly the greatest anime cover of all time :3
Or from Caleb Hyles Sorairo Days
Definitely the best reactor on UA-cam.

Way late comment I know, but Amalee did a full version of 'Gurenge' (the 'Demon Slayer' song you liked here) and another one called 'Homura' - both brilliant covers.
Thumbs up for continuing to support the more independent music producers.
If you like anime I'd recommend a reaction to Jonathan Young's Attack on titan opening 1. It's pretty much the best rendition of the song (in English) that I've come across.
I second this!
Jonathan Young has some great ones in general, like his cover of Linkin Parks "Breaking the habit".
Hard agree. I have his version memorized!

Yes! WagakkiBand. Ske needs a song that showcases Yuko's vocals and the Wagakki instruments so she gets it.

Because Christmas comes closer every year.
Neon genesis Evangelion (A Cruel angel's thesis) was sub par here. You should check out the original song and also the show is in Netflix. It's legendary.
Find the original if you can. The Netflix version is subpar.
The original song is a masterpiece
I didn't know you liked anime! I would recommend Epica's cover of "Wings of Freedom" (Attack on Titan), but any of the four songs on that EP are good.
I love hearing Peter, but going all the way at your side, made me taste and delight every single part of this video.
I was going to suggest this if no one else had yet. Easily one of their best covers.
This was great! Would absolutely love to hear you analyze more anime music on the channel.
Here's a few suggestions:
"Ai yo Kienaide" by Kahoru Kohiruimaki
"Dunbine Tobu" by MIQ
"Yusyaou Tanjo!" by Masaaki Endoh
"Getter Robo Theme" by Isao Sasaki
"Butter-Fly" by Kouji Wada
"We Are!" by Hiroshi Kitadani
And nearly any song by Hironobu Kageyama.
As for the other recommendations that I'll keep making :P
- Patty Gurdy, and especially her live version of her song "Run" at Lexington, or her one-take live version of Eurythmic's "Sweet Dreams".
I'd love to see more reactions to Amanda Lee's covers. I love her voice.
There are as much genres in anime as there are in live action series (maybe even a few more, or ones that are barely represented in live action)
For instance there are a lot of music related series where you follow people trying to become a superstar, or start their band, or series where songs are used as a powerful weapon.
Awesome video, as always. Also, I love the octopus plush, have the same one.
Nick Pitera is also a great singer on UA-cam, who is worth watching. His Aladdin Medley is amazing!
Amalee and Peter Hollens' cover of Weight of the World is absolutely insane and i would love to watch an analysis of it
You seriously seriously need to check out a band called Beast In Black and hear their singer.
You should react to some of Tomi P's stuff - Most underrated singer on UA-cam
yes Tomi P is a good singer to react to
BSN represent!
This is a live version of the japanese version with the original singer that recorded it: ua-cam.com/video/MjF6AkrXods/v-deo.html
My all time favourite is still Mamoru Oshii's first Ghost In The Shell movie, though.
For the record, creating English covers of anime songs is kind of AmaLee's thing. I believe she writes the translations herself, which is no mean feat.
Oh, and my favorite anime . . . probably Digimon just based on nostalgia. I also like Sailor Moon, Wotakoi, Arte and Tonikawa.
i was watching the Maiden songs reaction then found this, you just got a new fan for your channel. absolutely going to watch every video.
Cowboy Bebop and Neon Genesis Evangelion (song was in this medley)
Favorite Anime is Yowamushi Pedal.
It captures the feel of racing I felt as a kid/teen.
Hyper-exaggerated, but that's what everything felt like, then.
It has a lot of heart and feel-good emotions of an outcast otaku finding their place in a chosen family.
AAAAAA I DIDNT KNOW PETER HOLLENS MADE AN ANIME MEDLEY
I love Peter Hollens, but for anime covers my favorite is Pellek. His covers are amazing and he has an amazing voice as well
Not sure why or how i was recommended your videos ( i like metal i guess?) but after binging your videos for a very emotional 3 hours I am pretty sure I am in love. this video confirmed it.
You should consider checking out some of the music from Persona 5. It very anime and the vocals are very cool. Life Will Change and Rivers in the Desert, both have great live versions.
My favourite anime at this time is actually an Ecchi called "Highschool DxD"
I loved the reaction, and can recommend reacting to more of Amalee's work - I really enjoy how she makes these fantastic English versions of well-known Japanese anime songs ^_-
AYAYA, Thank you for the anime medley!
When she said that I thought "Cowboy Bebop".
