Modders have a Financial interest in modding even bad games because they make bank on patreon subs. They cant sell the mod but they get donations that more than make up for it. When your game is so bad that even modders are not gonna waste their time to mod/fix it even for money..........that spells the end of your company.
There is literally no way that Elder Scrolls 6 wont be a failure at this point.

I would say that previous mods had fixed the game and added some enhancements. The way I understand the modders opinion was that even if they fixed the game, it was still a boring game to play. Starfield needs a major overhaul which mere mods will not do.

    • @JohnDoe-lo1uf

@jonathan0berg The problem is that they keep screwing over people who use mods in games like Skyrim by doing "updates" (that no one wants) which break all your mods and forcce you to start from scratch. Then some of your mods get updated, and some never do and are no longer usable.

I think the big issue is a lot of devs seem deadset in their frame of mind when it comes to what they think makes for a good game. I think is half that. They released it knowing is a big world with many empty spaces modders could create in and makes less boring but the other half is that such a game needs huge numbers of assets to feel very alive.
The game needed like 5 times the numbers of cities it has etc and while trying to add the thing they put inside they had less time to optimize A.I, graphics etc in more detail. But to create everything it will need a development cyrcle of at least a few years more and that will be bad for profit so they went with "release it and fix it later" mentality.

Modders won't add much. Most of the TES modding crowd doesn't like Starfield, wasn't interested in it in the first place or are not willing to work for free adding content to Starfield that should have been in it to begin with.
The amount of work that goes into modding, the scripting, the .nif/3D modeling, retexturing, bugfixing, it's just not worth it for a game that's just so painfully boring.
Adding mods to games like Morrowind, Oblivion, Skyrim adds great spice to an already flavorful dish. Trying to mod Starfield is adding salt and pepper to a plain piece of chicken. Like yeah, you'll have some spice, but it's so bland, what good does it really do? Like there isn't much point to new quests, new weapons, armors when there is no content to use it with.

I feel like the blame doesn't so much fall with the developing team as a whole. I think the game direction was the failing. Rather than going for the ridiculous task of making a whole Galaxy they should have just stuck to a single solar system. It would have allowed development to be more focused on a handful of world. Especially since they haven't made anything like this before, it feels like they attempted to somersault before they learned to crawl.

the funny thing about your comment is i keep running into comments of people saying "they as in bethesda" never try anything new when your statement suggests they tried something new to them and they failed.
the thing is, most people were afraid this was going to be a flop long before they started development on starfield when they announced the idea of doing a space game, they wanted to make a game like NMS, but better, however as it turns out, it's nowhere near as good as NMS when it comes to being a space game, they have the potential for that but they just couldn't do it for whatever reason.
i know a lot of people like to blame this old engine, but i think most people don't understand this engine is good for some things and not so much for other things, and bethesda a company will often do things the safe way, never allow children to be killed in their games or allow the player to kill plot NPC's at any point in their quests because they assume that the player will like their story enough to never want to do anything else other than the same things each time they play, i suppose they did at least offer the new game plus feature, but the base story is boring at best.
i see the potential with this engine and all it's quarks as making something really amazing, but it seems the talent at bethesda is lacking significantly when it comes to story telling and things they did to their perk system to some very flawed things they added to the game design that doesn't feel good enough for players for this type of game.
i mean they actually thought the player would enjoy going through 6 loading screens just to drop off their mission details to some guy at the main command instead of idk calling the guy with some kind of long range communicator system and completing the mission that way like a normal scifi would do it in a show or a movie, so there is some things bethesda does that are really old game design that makes their games feel samey and boring and tedious.
and with as much procedural generation they used for this game was a bad idea altogether and people really didn't want them to follow NMS in their footsteps on this and yet here we are with this same nonsense everyone was afraid they would do.

The comparison to Cyberpunk and No man’s sky is really interesting because those games separate focuses (Engaging open world RPG, and Space exploration) are essentially what this game sought to combine. I worry that there won’t a redemption arc because it falls short on both regards and those studios worked tirelessly and almost solely on fixing the games’ problems so folks could see the magic that was buried underneath. Starfield almost feels like it’s shallow in both of those aspects and I’m not sure how a studio would go about fixing the problems while also enhancing those aspects but it would certainly be a monumental story if they did. That being said, with Bethesda’s recent track record (Fallout 4, 76, and re-releasing Skyrim 50 times) I’m not very hopeful unfortunately.

The artistic/technical talent at Bethesda is impressive to say the least, but as with all other the other big industry players they have struggled on the design. However when most of the executives who are leading this project have repeatedly said that they literally ignore any and all reviews then people are going to become more toxic as they feel unheard. Some of the replies they’ve given on Steam are insane and are symbolic of a internal culture which is more likely to be abrasive and more likely to double down on mistakes than just apologising, shutting up and fixing issues and making improvements.

It’s a step down from FO4 and Skyrim in almost every way. I was worried going into Starfield, lowered my expectations, and was still disappointed. FO4 had a better crafting system, a better settlement system, and better companions than Starfield. Skyrim had better quests and story, was more immersive, and had a more interesting and useful “special skill”(the dragon shouts were interesting and fun, the space magic in Starfield is boring and less useful and requires multiple play throughs with the same player character to unlock all the abilities). Both FO4 and Skyrim had more interesting NPCs, exploration, and lore. Bethesda created a game where the player can travel to alternate dimensions while populating them with a metric ton of essential NPCs (meaning they can’t die), minimizing the players ability to influence the world, limiting player choices, and almost forcing a certain play style on the player. Combat stinks, AI is still garbage, navmesh has issues, paid mods are on Skyrim and is probably coming to FO4 and Starfield, and the game is boring. 40 hours in, I gave up trying to have fun and uninstalled the game.
TL:DR Starfield is a massive downgrade from Skyrim and FO4, things bode poorly for ES6 the writers should all be fired, and leadership at Bethesda should be axed. Modders aren’t going to be able to fix this steaming pile, the problem are backed into the very skeleton of the game.

It would have been more poignant if you had one or two long-range stealth missions through truly uninhabited space. Instead, they tried to make emptiness "fun" by having shit everywhere and having a spacecraft land right next to yours within 30 seconds half the time. Beyond that, the loading screens killed any anticipation for approaching and admiring a new world, empty or otherwise.

I don't need to know how to make a dumpster to know it's on fire, Emil. Stop blaming your customers for being too stupid to understand how awesome they should think your games are.

A lot of the things people have suggested are things that other games have already done. Not insulting to suggest what is common sense at this point. If they want it to be a 12 year hit they have a lot of work to do.
