It's Sad cuz we grew up on the the movies and we take away all the negative aspects excepts the true message, like looking at the tree but not the forest. Growing up 90's kids we watched these movies almost aspiring to be like these people thinking it was cool or bad ass but unfortunately we didn't pay attention to the endings which all ended in tragedy. I believe the intention of these movies was to make us aware of the corruption and to work our way out it but instead we chose to pursue it.
Despite the negative portrayals in these movies, notice nearly all of them had a political angle, or at least a character who was woke and tried to get other characters to expand their world view. Where are these characters in the Fast and Furious franchise? So, they took the hood out of movies, but they took the politics out, too.

I still care too. Doughboy is also a double entendre- "doughboys" were American soldiers, and Doughboy/Ice Cube is a soldier in a war most Americans didn't see until hip-hop and these films brought that reality to life.

Tears to my ears and chills down my spine... these may all be movies but we all know they represent real life, and it hurts my heart to know that people live and die under those circumstances.
I think what he meant was these movies raised our generation in a sense. There's not many black people between 25-35 that hasn't seen all of these movies at least a couple dozen times. We grew up to these movies, so they're in our blood, that's all. Anyone can understand them, but for us, they're a part of our adolesense.

I bet not too many people listen to this song... the problem is these fictional hood movies were apart of my generation so we grew up watching these like it's nothing not knowing there are people who actually live like this, the point of these films was to motivate young adults and children to stay away from this lifestyle unfortunately, my generation decided to embrace it and you wonder why we can't get it together
