For me, it was the "All that gas can't help you but solar might
      So just call on Sun/Son
      Drop a S, pick up a O
      You know (Uno)
      Put it all on One
      Then, brace yourself like overbite..."

    With L-U-P Emperor
Is the foundations and I beams and the antennas
It’s so serious every time I write my John Hancock
Lupe literally based each line of this verse on his name and this is shown when he says it’s the foundations and I beams and so serious becomes a homophone for Sears which is building which has I beams (high beams) and a foundation and John Hancock is referring to another building, the John Hancock center. And each Verse has a letter of his name the first L-U-P (E)mperor, (F)oundations, (High/I )beams (S)o, and finally Han(CO)ck
This all ends up spelling Lupe Fiasco, genius

How the CIA Got American Soldiers in Vietnam Hooked on Heroin
An excerpt from the new book Narcotopia
lupe is reference to this with mean soldiers
    [Verse 1]
    It's mean, soldiers
Now let me put the streets down like steamrollers
    With the CATS that push
40 oz. through the hood like King Cobras
Double entendre. “Cats that push” would be slang for “dudes who sell drugs”. To continue the drug-references, a steamroller is a type of pipe used to smoke weed. In keeping with the construction-theme, he’s also referring to Catepillar - the heavy machinery company.

"Pennies from heaven is the same as the semi from the second
    And I reign(rain) supreme
    Turn your umbrellas upside down
Did you even catch the change in theme?"
In this line he's saying that the bars he drops are like "pennies from heaven" and because he "rains" supreme, you should turn your umbrellas upside down and catch the "change"( as in pennies). Also I think the reason he uses the word "reign" is because an upside down umbrella looks like a crown....

    • @mards2479
      @mards2479 3 роки тому +3

“Pennies from heaven is the same as the semi from the second”
Is he referring to getting shot from a second floor, being the same as getting hit with pennies from heaven, basically saying when he “rains” he’s killing the streets, which he was heavily referring to in the beginning of the verse

    • @jakesvendsen3346

@ThaReaalness Most definitely...BUT this song is so flawlessly put together. References that tie in constantly, double entendres everywhere, perfect flow, pop culture references, use of homophones that tie back into the references and malapropisms.

THat line links back in to the braille reference. For blind people to read. Since they can't see. It also links in with I keep my dogs out in front of me. (Service dogs) but this links into the Bumpy Johnson statement who was a drug king pin in NYC. So thats also a reference for street dealers. Ki as in Kilo. BUt the wild shit is what you have is also another possible meaning.

"see what I'm sayin" is another blind reference he talks about seeing with his ears all the time....
and push keys wonderfully ties it all together...
Keys = bricks/drugs whatever you wanna call it....
Wonderfully = he's very good at it, and also WONDERfully as in Stevie wonder....back to the blindness

And at that very time he realizes it, we see Verbal, whose character was known for walking with a limp, all of a sudden start walking normally and gets away. crazy metaphor.
