I think stability is one of the most important attributes for a badminton shoe, especially in the heels. I see a lot amateurs using too soft/aery shoes
Low-cut Basketball shoes are the best options in terms of grip on court, as they stick far better on the court compared to actual badminton shoes, but they do lack cushioning, which might give you some calluses. Don't think about using high-cut basketball shoes since they are not too good for your ankles, and you might trip alot.
I'm using the Puma Al Clyde pro low for context. Indeed the cushions are great, and the grip is outstanding. However, the heel stacks are bit too much compared to badminton shoes, and that hinders my footwork quite sometimes.
Wearing my basketball shoes, kinda heavy tho and not too proper but at least it do a job. The minus point is the squeak sound it make sometimes because you indoor basketball shoes love to squeak lol
I recommend Asics Blade FF. It provides good grip and has good durability. You can play all of the other indoor sports with it. I play badminton and table tenis.
I occasionally wear Curry 10 and 4 low flotro for badminton, my gosh they grip so damn well on court and they are extremely comfortable. But definitely invest in a pair of good badminton shoes if you can, Mizuno and Asics make great high end badminton shoes and I'd definitely pick them over Yonex ones. And another important investment would be the insoles, replace the insoles, it's literally night and day.
I use my most uncomfortable pair of running shoes, which is a pair of On, that are probably half a size too small. The cushioning is great though. I'm 90kg and most I'd the badminton shoes would not provide my knees with nearly enough protection!
you forgot to mention tennis shoes. If you play tennis and also play badminton, try Asics Solution Speed FF 2 or 3 the regular version not the clay one. They are light, good grip, good support, good stability you feel fast and they look good than other badminton shoes.
I played with pt shoes of military without any cushion and rubber on it every step feels like you are moving on rock then i got some new ones but they got destroyed in 2 month they were like 50 dollars and I am back old military ones 😢😢.
Li-ning has the best shoes, even compared to Yonex, at the same price point. If your living in south east Asia, Li-ning shoes are very cheap. I use 808v3 coz I play basketball too.
