Wow, I’ve really lived a sheltered life in a bubble. I used to be so angry with my parents because they were so stricter with me. For example, in some roles the social worker is only allowed to work short contracts (usually 3 months) because of risk of burn out… first responders experience trauma all the time. There’s nothing wrong with sex work specifically. It’s people like you who imply that sex work is inherently traumatising when it’s not. Trauma can occur anytime from anything depending on biopsychosocial factors.
If there weren't a high demand or propensity for great financial yield, many SWs would not participate. This does not mean the work is morally objectionable or wrong. That is not what I said.

You know what's crazy? My girlfriend wants me to have fun with escorts. She wants me to hire a prostitute. Why? Because she told me "you have sacrificed a lot for me, you have worked hard for me, I want you to have fun with a hot escort because you deserve to have some fun, you deserve it"

- now I have a partner and she wants to hire an escort for me as a gift for me (because I worked and sacrificed a lot for her over the years)
- I declined, my girlfriend wanted to hire a hot escort for me and I've declined (so far)

When I was based in Germany we used to go to brothels most weekends pissed out of our heads, believing we were all having a great time. Me and a mate thought it would be funny one afternoon to go there whilst we were supposed to be doing "sports afternoon" (you are suppose to pick a sport and play it instead of doing regular PT). We showed up there sober and we quickly realised how bad of a place it was. Bars on all the windows and doors, the place was filthy and the girls seemed very depressed. You might not even realise it at the time, but afterwards feel violated. How do you navigate that? It’s impossible, you don’t feel justified in feeling traumatised. I wish I could take those flashbacks away from her. I hope she can get out. I imagine it can be addictive. She can find a strong support system, there will be support but I wish there was more talk about this. Support for sex workers whether they are still working or not and for a long period of time. These people need a place to talk about their trauma and not be shamed or forced to leave not on their own terms but just to exist publicly
