  • This could be contentious, but the following movies produced by Peter Rogers and directed by Gerald Thomas could all have been Carry-On movies. Have a watch of the video and see what you think.
For the record, after many many goes, I've just got to admit that I can't say "tuberculosis" correctly - sorry about that.

I've had these in my Carry On collection for a long time. I'd also include The Iron Maiden, one of the more traditional British comedies.

I think of the ones chosen, Watch your Stern was as close to being a Carry On film without actually being a Carry on film that we ever saw. Cracking little film too. Connor, James, Sims, Jacques, Phillips and Barker. The film is fleshed out with some other actors who appeared in their fair share of Carry On’s between them too such as Ed Deveraux, David Lodge, Victor Maddern and Michael Nightingale. Thanks for the useful links as well.

Peter rogers said his films were essentially carry on but at one point they were churning them out so rapid that u couldnt call them all carry on...he explains this in his commentaries with robert ross on the 2 carry ons - thats carry on and up the khyber..

Turning this on its head .... "Carry On Cabby" wasn't a Carry On to begin with. It was a comedy sponsored by Ford and Regent petrol and based on the true story of the Welbeck Motors minicabs and the taxi wars of 1961. Written by Sid Hills and Dick Green (the script writers for Morecanbe and Wise), it was originally titled "Call Me A Cab" and filmed in the same area of Windsor as the Norman Wisdom comedy "A Stitch In Time" at the same time.
A couple of times in the film, the cabs drive past a Rootes dealership selling Shell petrol and the sponsors (Ford and Regent) were not pleased.

@@paulturton9755 Follow That Camel, and Don't Lose Your Head only got the Carry On part added when they were re-released, in the case of Camel it was some years later.

There's actually a good book called the lost carry ons released by Robert Ross I think or Morris bright or the other guy who does carry on books.
Another good book is carry on uncensored, again lost carry ons.

What about "What a Carve Up!"? Sid James and Kenneth Connor starring.

You didn't include The Iron Maiden (1962) with Michael Craig, Cecil Parker, Joan Sims, Jim Dale.

I did consider it 👍, but the two Carry On regulars weren't in starring roles. I'll be honest, No Kidding only just made it into the video because of Leslie Phillips

@@paulturton9755 You've gotta include it - produced by Peter Rogers, directed by Gerald Thomas, music by Eric Rogers, Anglo Amalgamated, Heatherden Hall, a few Carry On supporting actors - and this film also has a lot of similarities with the other 8 films you have mentioned.

There were some Carry On films that were mooted, but nothing ever came of them - Carry On Texas, which had the working title of Carry On Dallas - meant to send up the US soap opera Dallas was one!
Couldn’t do a new one these days - with most of the actors who ever lent their talent to a Carry On film, even if only once, briefly, blink and you miss them, now being dead, it simply wouldn’t work - as was proven with Carry On Columbus - with only Jim Dale, Jack Douglas, Leslie Phillips and June Whitfield from the original cast - and even Leslie Phillips never did any of the colour ones - and the rest made up of contemporary alternative comedians, plus the blonde girl from a series of cheese spread ads, it was doomed to fail with the best loved ones - Sid James, Kenneth Williams and Charles Hawtrey and so on all deceased and others too old to play their “roles”, it was doomed to failure - can’t imagine people like Rhod Gilbert and Ben Miller doing one - although Ben Miller’s series The Worst Week Of My Life was a laugh from start to finish!

The days of a new Carry On are long gone, as it's that sort of humour. We will just have to enjoy the good ones while can.
Sadly with the streaming being the way forward, I can't see the next generation watching a Carry On film.

I wish they'd gone ahead with the planned Star wars/Star Trek spoof 'Carry On Up Uranus ' in 1980!
