Deciding between an Hp Victus 1650, I5 12th gen, 8 gigs of RAM, 256 SSD. Acer Nitro with a 3050ti, 16gb of RAM, I5 11th gen ( 6 core), 512 SSD? Thinking of going for the Acer though it's a REFURB. Suggestions?
The 3050 is better than the 1650 and it has dlss supported for even better performance. On top of that the price jump between the two isn't even that much depending on where you are. The 3050 might be a low end RTX but at least future proofs your laptop for future titles better than the 1650.
Idk. The fact that it can run current titles faster than a 1650 doesn't mean it will run future titles faster because it will suffer just as much from low vram as the 1650 and the performance diff beetween the two will become negligible.
@@hatchet646 That is not true. Nvidia is known to drop driver optimization for their older products. In this case, it is the GTX 1650 . The RTX 3050 will receive driver optimization longer than Turing cards.
@@areldcookie5581 like i said. But we were talking about "future proofing". In which neither will be better when the problem will be the vram not the processing power.
Same. I did a lot of research when I got mine & I was only going to use it for multitasking, live streaming & playing RuneScape as the core video game with a few games of league maybe & the hp 15 with the 1650 was perfect. Still runs any game I want since I’m not a graphics whore and need 2080p 😊fps over crisps
Just bought a 2019 laptop with a 1650 for $300. It's my first computer with a graphics card and I love it. Definitely not a crazy card, but being able to buy it in a laptop for $300 now, you just can't beat that. Especially with the way market was the last 2 years.
@@Raven-lg7td maybe used-slightly, people sell their renewed or used slightly products too cheap because they needed cash real quick for other stuff, i think specs are i5 8300H and GTX 1650M and 8gb ram but 60hz for sure
My tip for you is go for a higher education and get scholarship program and then study overseas and get out of that shithole country best of luck to you mate
In my country , lenovo 1650 is 40% more cheaper than 3050. Its because of massive discount right now, i could not accept 3050 now that 1650 is so affordable. A sacrifice of some performance lag is definitely worth it.
3050 is like 20% faster, and a lot of 1650's are paired with fast processors which honestly ends up making them run the same when you average all games. this review is kind of ass. 1650 is insanely good for the price, 3050 costs more so obviously it's slightly faster. every review by this guy is "this more expensive gear is better" like no shit man.
Thank you! A more sensible test! I know it hasn't been the fault of the channel by getting all those God-tier models - but this video will be super relevant to far more people. Keep up the great work!
Cheers! Yeah it sucks that I had to spend over $2000 AUD just to make the video by buying both the laptops, I too am sick of only getting lent the high end stuff, but I think it's worth it!
i bought my laptop with a 1650 about one and a half years ago, when it was the most common gpu you could get on a laptop. Mine was $1000, and just a few months later i was seeing 3050 laptops for the same price and roughly same specs. Kind of regret buying one at the time rather than waiting, but i guess you can't always predict when the next major upgrade to average laptop hardware will be.
I've recently got the Dell G15 with 3050ti and i5 11th gen and 16GB ram version, and picked it up a couple of months ago on sale for $650 CA plus tax. I've been pretty happy with the performance.
I bought the rtx 3050 variant of the Lenovo Ideapad 3 Gaming for almost the same price of the 1650 variant. Crazy how powerful the 3050 is for the price.
@fmfatral And im using it right now, the build quality is not that bad, ive had better laptops but this one is adequate, but the performance where it really shines. It also has a good screen and nice keyboard.
there is also a big price difference: in my country, I bought a Lenovo legion 5 Ryzen 5 plus GTX 1650 for $950. while the Ryzen 7 plus RTX 3050 model is for $1200. both with 16GB of ram and 512 m.2 SSD.
That's funny, because in my country, a lot of laptops with 3050 are cheaper than the 1650 models But 20% for 30% more cpu power and 15-30% increase in Gpu power, Dlss, and all the RT functions worth it to me
this might be a silly question, but why is the power consumption different if spec-wise, both computers have the same TDP? shouldn't they be running at relatively similar watts/temps if they were running full steam?
could be the fact that both laptops can run up to 80 watts, which concludes the fact that the RTX laptop would clearly have higher consumption since GTX can only consume up to 50 watts
Battery life benefit of the 3050 is key when evaluating lower-specced laptops like these (as well as DLSS support of course). I'd argue it's much better to buy an AMD CPU in such laptops given the much better battery life and the fact that any performance benefit Intel might have in games would be nullified by the lower end GPU.
Watching this on my GTX 1650 laptop. Bought it mainly because it was quite a lot cheaper than a 3050 option in my country (India). Moreover, the Legion 5 chassis I have is much better in terms of build quality and thermals. Also, don't really need a 3050 as I don't play many AAA games.
Funny story, my friend has both of these GPU's, he said that when he switched out the GTX 1650 to a RTX 3050 he wasn't gaining as much FPS as he did with the GTX 1650
yeah cause this review is hilarious and fails to mention so many points. if you get a 1650 with a good processor and the power draw is right then it'll blow your mind. 3050 is mildly better if it's in the correct configuration, otherwise there's like no difference.
I've had a 1650 for a few years. Paired with an i5 it does ok. Can play modern games decently at 1080p. Got a great deal. I'm definitely looking to upgrade at this point. Really wish there were more AMD tests with their new cpu and gpu offerings. 6850m and 6900hx specifically
I’ve been living with a 1060maxQ laptop for 3.5 years approx and I am waiting for the 4000 series to make it into laptops; so that I can get a 3000 series laptop. Pricing in my region is very expensive in general. Great comparison video! This helped me understand things.
I got my gtx 1650 laptop right before the rtx 3050 laptops became a thing and it did well for years but wasn't great for recording, streaming, etc and could not handle most titles but it made me enough money to buy my own pc which I use today
FSR and DLSS are amazing solutions for gaming, especially on older and underperforming hardware. Sometimes it's hit or miss in terms of quality but overall they're great features. Now yeah 1650 laptops in the end of 2022 isn't great unless for light/esports games.
@@uzacki No need to cry. It runs quite well on a 1650, & if you have a good processor, you could try it yourself if it made you weep. DLSS is great if you are maxing out, not like games don't run well in 1080p without the top of the line.
Hello Jarrod. I really enjoy watching your reviews on gaming laptops and they are really showing all the aspects that a user might be care about. Me myself is buying a 3070Ti gaming laptop, and I'm choosing from GE77HX, Scar17SE and Legion7i. I really care about the noise control, especially the presence of high pitch sound. Since you have reviewed all these three laptops, could you tell me which one is the best in terms of noise control and doesn't have any annoying high pitch fan noise? It is kind of hard to tell from the video.
I bought a legion 5 with a 1650 ti last year for $700. It plays some games pretty well at med to some high setting at 60fps. I also use it for emulation. I do have a ps5 to play my AAA games on. Gaming laptops are expensive and i was not trying to spend $2000 for a 3080 laptop..
I just bought a Legion 5 with a 1650 too, but I also have a Series X, therefore I won’t be playing all games on high settings, just for those few games that are only available on PC
Okay i understand, but i wish i knew this when my parents bought me a laptop with 1650, i am still grateful for it tho, and it is an amazing first gaming laptop 😁
@@Kakarot_editz-i9d yeah i got on December 2020 the Lenovo Ideapad L340 gaming 😎 idk why i remember it like this, but it is a good laptop, but wasn't the cheapest i guess 🤔
My dad was looking for the cheapest gaming laptop and he bought me asus tuf fx505gt which has 1650 gpu and my only problem is that the screen is 60 hz which is not really good but useful anyway
The truth is I don't know if I feel regret with my purchase of my laptop 8 months ago with a 1650, and no, not that I like or love changing electronics every 6 months.
8 months ago, laptop prices were still expensive compared to today's prices. So yeah, dont feel bad for your purchasing decision. I got my 1650 in early 2021, it's been doing fine for me. I mean, I mostly play competitive titles like Dota, Valorant, and Apex. Even FH5 could run smooth on tweaked Med-High settings.
RTX 3050 released in May 2021, not 2022. My laptop is Nitro 5 Core i5 10th gen processor with GeForce GTX 1650 Ti GPU and has been used for over a year. My old laptop was Aspire 4755G run a Core i5-2450M processor with a GeForce GT 540M 2GB GDDR3 GPU that had been used for nine years, from 2012 to 2021.
Yeah. In my country, the difference is 400 to 500 more but for usd, its 100 - 125 usd more which is why it seems like theres no point in purchasing the 1650 for countries with powerful currency
Used a 1650 for a few weeks, was mostly okay for ROBLOX games. Getting a new one with a 3050 soon due to the 1650 one having a fault and with it being black Friday, thought id treat myself to the upgrade. My main rig has a 3070ti (which is obviously way op than laptop graphics) will be interesting to compare the differences
Great comparison. For casual gaming 3050 is not bad at all actually. I got the msi gf66 with 3050 and i5 11400h + 8gb ram for 710$. I mainly use it for software development but it can handle most games like a champ. Even ray tracing is not a problem when combined with dlss.
@Lurch7861 well on Control medium settings + medium RT + dlss i get 50 - 60 fps on average. Absolutely playable . And thats with only 8gb ram and both the cpu and gpu undervolted..
@@billy8461 I'm looking to buy the same laptop and I'd really appreciate it if you answered my questions. How's the laptop overall? Any problems you've faced? Does it heat up above 85C or drop frames in longer gaming sessions? Is daily usage fine or are there problems like mini freezes etc? Is the fan annoying during light web browsing and office work? How long does the battery last web browsing? Did the Nahimic audio software give you any problems? Is Windows 11 buggy on it? Is the trackpad loose on the bottom? I'm just looking for a cheap laptop to play games (1080p medium settings), browse and do office work and some 1080p video editing here and there. Would you recommend it?
@@hmmm5300 Hello, Ok after 3 months of having this laptop here is what i have to say: Problems that i have found: 1) The battery is really bad. It lasts arround 3 hrs in power saving mode while watching videos on yt or doing similar tasks.(for example coding). For gaming is big no it wont even last 40 minutes and the performance drops significantly. To me this is not a problem tho cuz i use it mainly for my work and it stays on more than 10hrs a day with a second screen so the battery doesnt matter. No problems during daily usage. (There is a setting that prevents the battery from charging to 100% in msi center) 2) The screen brightness is not that great compared to other machines but to me its absolutely fine. Productivity: I have tested it in programs like photoshop, illustrator, Dreamweaver, Unreal Engine, Unity, Visual Studio, Access and Microsoft Office in general. It can handle anything you throw at it. The fan noice is barely noticeable, unless you are gaming it will not bother you. The thermals are ok during productivity the cpu stays at around 35 - 45c and the gpu arround 40 - 45c. I should mention that i have locked the cpu to 2.6 ghz for better longevity and battery life. So if you run it at the maximum settings the temperature might increase depending on the task. Gaming: Well the only games that i have played are Horizon zero dawn and Control. Both very demanding games i should say. On hzd 1080p medium settings, dlss off. I get 50-75 fps and on Control same settings 50-60fps. With dlss i get arround 70-80 fps. In longer sessions(4hrs +) i have noticed some small fps drops tho. The gpu goes up to 85 degrees. (i havent seen it go beyond that) and the cpu reaches 95 degrees so yea it gets loud. Undervolting is a must in these kind of games. Thats with 8gb ram. Insides: - It has 2 rams slots with 8 gb ram installed in one slot (SAMSUNG) and the other slot is free for upgrade, - It has 1 ssd nvmie m.2 slot occupied by the pre-installed disk (KINGSTON) - Also has an empty slot for ssd or hdd SATA3 for more space in case of upgrade. - It doesn't have Dragon Center, it has MSI Center (it's the same thing). I run windows 10 home. W11 offers nothing more than w10 and it is a little bit slower from what i have seen. Overall it has a very beautiful design. The screen is very nice for the price. The keyboard and touchpad appear to be well made. The only negative thing I can say is that if the keyboard needs to be changed, the ENTIRE laptop must be disassembled. + I like the shortcut for fan turbo mode after hours of gaming it lowers the temperature instantly + Easy shortcut to turn off the camera + The laptop speakers are fine. The Nahimic audio software is nice it has many interesting settings but i didnt dive into that. Feel free to ask any other questions :)
@@billy8461 I'm planning to use it indoors so screen brightness should be fine I think. Short battery life is to be expected with Intel CPUs. I saw it personally and the design and weight are awesome for the price. You did confirm my concerns with the cooling design though. Nvidia GPUs thermal throttle at 86°C so that's why you don't see it past 85. The single stick 8GB of RAM is definitely causing some underutilization so with dual channel 16GB it will probably run even hotter/throttle more. The cooling solution is inadequate I assume. I'm curious, did you get these temps at max performance mode? Was cooler boost enabled?
The same laptop mentioned for 3050 but with 500gb ssd is going for 690$ TAXES included so net price is 690 over here in India These 3050 laptops are really good and paired with 11400h is just an icing on the cake (p.s. for games 5600h vs 11400h normally intel is better for gaming FOR LAPTOPS)
GTX 1650 nearly 40-60 FPS towards the End of 2022 is actually still impressive. For a Graphic Card of the 10r Series and as a Notebook Model even more so.
@@Kakarot_editz-i9d The 16 series uses the same architecture as 20 series, just without the RT and tensor cores. It is actually a 20 series without those RTX cores and hence was named as GTX 16 instead and has the same cuda cores.
I bought legion 5 (5600h + 1650) few months ago. I run Spiderman remastered medium around 45fps, and I have 8gb ram. So definitely it can reach near 60fps with upgraded ram.
Hmmm I'm no tech expert so that probably answers it, but isn't fps focused on gpu?? Ram can boost fps yes but I feel fps is mainly focused on gpus. I could be wrong tho so a reply to the comment would be helpful atleast
I bought a 1650 ti laptop two years ago and it has held up well. Elden Ring was playable at low/med settings at 1080p so I'm satisfied. So while not ideal to buy in 2022, a 1650 laptop is a fine enough choice if the price is competitive enough.
I have an older version of the Lenovo Legion 5 which has Ryzen 5 4600H and GTX 1650, and it's been with me for almost 3 years now. I haven't had any hiccups with performance and I even work and stream on it as well. I do have it hooked up to an external monitor and I have AO enabled. It hasn't let me down, and it's been doing the job great for me. So I think I'll stick with this setup for at least a couple more years, though I do plan on building a PC with at least Ryzen 7 and a 30 series card in a year or so since I want to start using this laptop for just solely work purposes. Who knows, we'll see. Any tips on that upcoming build though, Jarrod?
I'm so happy I pushed for the 2060 instead of 1660ti for my laptop about 2 years ago now. DLSS is a BEAST and has saved my ass more time than I can remember
But a lot of games support FSR now, dont they ? Im not much of a gamer, but i can play with GTX 1660TI Mafia Definitive Edition on 60+ FPS all the time on High, so i dont think its that bad...
Dude they should have made more 1660ti laptops rather than 3050 ones. But , now Dlss is evewhere. Maybe people are happy despite of having low Vram. Even tough they run out of Vram unless they play on medium-high settings.
@@ninadramteke1999 I still dont understand why they decided to give GTX 1660ti 6GB of VRAM instead of 8GB, just like GTX 1070 has....And 4GB of VRAM on RTX 3050 Is rly a joke.

1650 should work fine for atleast next 5 years. I mean if you really want performance then buy a pc rather than laptop. Depending of discount the gap in price between them is huge here in asia.

@@arijit1809 yeah it should. But physically inspect the laptop first regarding its weight. Just so you know 1650gtx was launched in 2020 and i5 12th gen is available now. So dont get discouraged by the reviews. Cost is generally our main concern and there is no way i am able to afford anything above this. I might get acer, asus and lenovo cheaper but i have never used these laptops so i dont know how they wil sustain since i am a heavy gamer and i use the laptop very rough. Hp and dell can sustain it. So keep these things in mind because they will pitch 2080 RTX or 3080 RTX..both are superior to 1650 but the advantage is not that big if you are ok with 1080 mid setting gaming or running software at mid speed. If you can shell out 10-15k more than you can sure go for them. RTX is superior than GTX in general.
I bought a 1650 laptop more than 8 months. Laptops in my country are generally expensive. For example if the laptop is $600 in the US, where I live it would be around $1000-1200!
My friend was going to buy a 1650 laptop around 815 dollars. I tried to stop him by saying, that just wait for one month and you can even get a rtx 3050, but he didn't listened and brought it anyway. Now, he has some guilt why didn't he waited just a month because there's many 3050s at that price available now.
I got my 1650 laptop November 2021 quite happy with it for portable efficient gaming which it achieves extremely well I have my 12700k 2070 super desktop so I’m set.
It may not be the best card but I just got a refurbished laptop with a GTX1650ti, 16GB of ram, an i5-11300H, and 1tb SSD for $400, im still pretty happy with the purchase.
I bought a Lenovo Legion 5 second hand from Cex with an RTX 3050 (17 inch) because I had a 17 inch before and didn't want to downsize to a 15.6 inch and it had a built in memory card reader and whilst I saw your video saying you didn't like the wasted space in the machine, I have to say that it's one of the best purchases I've made so far. The only thing I don't like is that it doesn't have separate buttons for the trackpad but I'm using a mouse now and I absolutely love the laptop and it plays the games I want usually above 60fps which to me is perfect. Thank you for your review of the best laptops and I've got the 144hz screen and to say it's perfect is an understatement. I did want the 3060 graphics card, which I initially paid for, but the people at the particular Cex branch put the wrong card on.
Nice video and youtoube channel ! I watched a lot of your testing and laptop review recently. It helps me a lot to choose my new one. What do you think about the RX5500M vs the RTX3050 (according they have and equivalent TGP version) ? I would go for a 5500M cause I found a cheap laptop with it and a good enough config. It doesn't bother me to miss ray tracing, but I heard that more games are well designed for Nvidia GPU over AMD. Thank you Jarrod :D
Was about to buy a 1650 laptop with a 10th gen i5 at Oct 2021. But I found a 3050 laptop (HP Pavillion Gaming) with a R5 5600h at just a few thousand PhP more. Best decision I made.
I mean... I got a laptop with the 1650 and a Ryzen 5 5600H for just $290 USD. It only had a 512GB M.2 Sata Drive and 8GB of ram but at that price I added a second NVME 2TB ssd and upped it to 16GB ram and kept the total price at $450. I would say it was totally worth it at that price point especially since my GF didn't want me spending more than $500. I don't think I've seen many if any options for a 3050 that is less than $500 USD.
I have the 1650 blade stealth and find it plays everything I need it to, on the go. Medium to low settings on a 13inch screen is just fine for me. At home, my desktop has the eye candy.
The 3050 can be 25-40% more expensive than 1650 . So these differences are absolutely justified. Especially when considering that the difference can be 100-300 USD on a budget laptop. So.. yea! The more expensive 3050 being better isn't really a shocker.
That 1650 laptop was my first ever gaming laptop, and I have fond memories of it. I gifted it to a friend of mine when I upgraded to a 3050 Ti laptop over a year ago. Last I seen, it's still running great and she's had no issues with it
Loving these videos mate. Support informative and helpful for buyers. Also, noticed that you've worn a Children Of Bodom shirt and now InFlames. Next I want to see some Drowning Pool, Disturbed and Deftones shirts 🤘
Same here , the real thing here will be how you use it Like i did a shit ton of optimizations on my laptop and in some cases it runs better than a 3050 , i think 3050 is seriously being hold back because of its 4 gb of vram

Great video, i had a little better performance on games cause all the other hardware of my laptop was better than the one in the video but in shadow of the tomb raider ive got way more different results on the gtx1650, the game runs on max setting at about 72 fps while on the other laptop with an rtx 3050 it runs at about 58 fps which is weird and i still didnt figure out how is that possible.
I want to remind everyone that the 1650 isn't even faster than the 1060 mobile from 2016. It should really be branded with the "MX" suffix instead of "GTX" because of the bottom of the barrel performance.
@@cameronbosch1213 then M simply meant mobile, *all* mobile GPUs, not lower performance class. Comprehension? MX and GTX coexisted for years, and MX clearly meant less features, and low end.
Maybe because it is now very close to a gtx 1060 in performance, and was close to the 3gb 1060 in performance soon after launch. It also ate just 50w of power and costed around $600-$700 at launch. Infact, the gddr5 gtx 1650 on laptops packed better specs than the desktop gtx 1650 and didn't compromise on vram either. The rtx 3050 on the other hand didn't beat the gtx 1660ti despite using more power (95w vs 80w). It also has less vram than it and less vram than its desktop version as well as worse specs. And lastly, it costed at least $200 more than the gtx 1650 laptops and nearly as much as rtx 3060 laptops, something it still does even now. So I'd argue the rtx 3050 is a even more pathetic card than the gtx 1650, which on laptops was at least alright.
Unfortunately this video illustrates what can be summarised in a sentence; The 3050 outperforms and has more features than the outgoing, previous 1650 model. I thought this would be obvious. However more annoyingly the video title "Dont buy" is clickbait and bad advice, it's like saying don't buy a ford when you could have a ferrari just because it's faster. When making any purchase you should consider much more than performance only, including price, availability, practicality, size, your personal needs as a user or customer and potential resale value if you plan on selling in a few years Case and point I've just bought a 1650 and 8gb ram laptop within last 6 weeks and it does everything I need it to. I've actually been very impressed with it's performance. I made a compromise on some of the hardware for other features such as the display and portability of the device and so far I'm very glad I did!
Clearly the video is needed given you came to the wrong conclusion lol. Let's summarize. 3050 has better battery life, performs better in games, gives you DLSS, has ray tracing, potentially goes up to higher power limit, IS CHEAPER. Yeah, 1650 is totally worth considering 😅 maybe if it's WAY cheaper sure, which is exactly what I said in the video. Just because you spent money on something doesn't mean you need to feel personally attacked about the title of a video.
@@JarrodsTech tbf lad I don't feel personally attacked it's just dangerous to make such sweeping and generalising statements, a more appropriate title for the video would have been 3050 v 1650 mobile comparison or along these lines... I understand the clickbait title, your revenue is directly affected by your number of viewers and subs so I understand why you do it but my point was people should buy what's most appropriate for them that's all. The original video title suggests there is something inherently wrong with the 1650 when there is isn't, it's just a little older now but it's still perfectably serviceable. The video itself like some of your others I've seen is very informative and useful and you do go onto explain your views well but for somebody perhaps younger and more easily influenced, especially by UA-camrs such as yourself, who may not watch the entire video, by using that title your influencing them with your own biased opinion. Just because you wouldn't buy a 1650 laptop now doesn't mean other people wouldn't. But it's no biggie, just take it as positive criticism from a fellow techie and someone who has watched a few of your videos.
Might vary by region, but I've shown the the 3050 can be cheaper. Not to mention the temperature difference doesn't matter, as long as it's not hitting the 87c thermal throttle limit we're good and there's nothing to worry about.
Here in India, 1650 is the way to go for budget gaming laptops, and since every rupee matters, the difference between a 1650 toting lappy and a 3050 toting one is roughly about 140-170 usd, and this is a pretty tangible difference. A better alternative to GTX 1650 is Rx 5500m in my opinion, atleast as far as just gaming is concerned. Wonder why OEMs aren't pushing 1650 super or 1660 to replace 1650 in this very scene... Edit: For some perspective:- Acer Aspire 7 2022(i5 1240p , GTX 1650) sells for 55- 57k or about 650 USD, and this is among the cheapest of gaming laptops. But the cheapest rtx 3050 laptop, HP Victus 2022 ( i5 11th gen) sells for 67k or 837 USD. With sales into account, the cheapest 1650 you can get is for about 565 usd and the cheapest rtx 3050 won't ever go lower than 750-800 usd.
It's better to build a desktop PC yourself if you're going to do alot of gaming. Desktops are matchless to laptop in-terms of Performance VS. Cost Ratio.

Hey Jarrod, what should I do if my laptop GPU is capped at a lower TGP? My RX 6800M doesn't exceed 115W even in heavy stress tests although it is advertised to be 145W.
Looking to buy the 11400H+3050 GF63 for my nephew for school and games. How does it hold up overall for the price? Temps, browsing battery life, fan noise on light tasks? There's also a Victus 15 with a 12450H (4P+4E) and a 1650 for $80 less and otherwise equal specs. What would you recommend?
Great video. 1650 is in EVERY laptop right now it seems. They must have a huge overabundance. What a terrible card. My friend showed me a 1650 laptop for $500 and I immediately pointed her towards a $600 laptop with a 3050ti. For a 20% increase in cost you can get nearly double the performance in some games and with much better frame times

I bought an Acer Nitro 5 with gtx 1650 2 years ago, looking to upgrade now. Should I upgrade my gpu or just buy a new laptop? I'm getting an external monitor too (144hz)
Its always good to see a well done review by our friend Jarrod, but Full Hd in a 15.6 display and above 30 fps is enough for me,enjoying the games like the ps1 era! do not let minor things ruin your pleasure of gaming..
Hei Jarod it is interesting to see this kind of comparation. I got my Swift X with RTX3050 35w (it says boost up to 40w but I never see it go up 40w) and I safely to say it comparable to GTX 1060 Desktop minus 2GB Vram (From various Videos that I saw). The DLSS surely nice feature even though it wont offset the lack of VRAM (Spiderman and Watchdogs go up 40xxMB VRAM Used and stutter bit and goes back to 39xx MB)
Does it run out of vram even at low settings? I don't know much about Spiderman but I knew Watchdogs at low settings needed like around 3gb or a bit higher. If I had one or these gtx 1650 or rtx 3050 I would still go for medium or low settings for sure to avoid vram limit in the future games as I prefer the boost in performance more than the graphics.
@@dusk5927 From what I see, Low setting wont be much a problem as long as geometry and texture around Med your fine. I got my self run at High it hover around 38-60fp. The game bit weird, I can go down to 25fps when in combat or roaming on the street at times and goes back again to 40-60 in couple of minute latter.
@@dusk5927 Regarding Watchdog Legion, I am playing it at High Setting with texture on Medium (despite its says more than 4gb or vram) it still run smoothly around 40-55FPS depending in scene. It becomes problematic if texture set to High only if you using highspeed car or bike other than that it fine but bit stutter at times (monitoring its vram uses, it go up to 4096mb stutter and goes back to 4000mb territory). Unlike Ac Valhalla that has impact greatly on average with 4gb vram on High Texture. Btw RTX 3050 better than 1650 because it has DLSS. How about Ray Tracing? Forget it, it just a gimmick for 4gb vram. It can do ray tracing sure, but with that kind of vram, either you lower down all setting and turn ray tracing on or go for med-high setting than turn raytracing off. For me standard Screen Space Reflection is good enough for most game.
RTX 3050 35-40w is akin to GTX1060 Desktop, or RTX 2060 Maxq or 1660 ti Max q or RX 5500m. So seeing those of benchmark (as long as the game wont use more than 6gb Vram) in UA-cam can give you performance you can expect out of RTX 3050 35w.
I got the Lenovo IdeaPad Gaming 3 (Ryzen 5 5600H + RTX 3050) with Crosshair Vengeance (16×2) 3200 MHz RAM and a Samsung 1 TB NVMe SSD with a total cost of $480 💀 All thanks to Black Friday!
I am blown away by the result of 1650 vs 3050 on cyberpunk Like they both have SAME score but 3050 have 2x + more cuda cores Any TL;DR for as to why this is happening? because of FSR?

Well, I needed a laptop for on the go. And the 1650 was almost €300 cheaper, had a much much better CPU and monitor than any laptop with a 3050 (at least: 3/4 months ago when I purchased it and in my country, dunno about US). So my choice was incredibly easy to make. I wouldn't recommend it as your primary machine, but if you already have a good PC and just need something for on the side... My choice was the best choice I could've made at the time of purchase. Also it's a g15 strix with a quite decent 144hz panel, most laptops in the same price range were this ugly, extremely cheap feeling laptops like: Asus TUF (yeah, take my word for it: strix is better especially if it's cheaper and suits your needs, I'd even take a VIVO over a TUF, just because of it's sheer appearance, TUF has become the cheap stuff from asus.. nothing TUF about ti anymore), acer or HP omen. Not to mention the potential for issues you most likely will have with entry level laptops from those named model/brands. Also it was on sale and I kept quite a big amount of change in my pockets, so yeah: best purchase I could've made even though it has a 1650 and not a 3050 (honestly on the go / at friends I only play games like: league of legends, starcraft II or world of warcraft arena, so a CPU like the Ryzen 4800h it has - for 1080p - was sooooo much better than an i5 sporting a 3050 for almost 300 more, especially considering what I play when I'm not at my primary PC).. If you know what your needs are this video is actually quite bad advise, good advise for entry level enthusiasts though. This g15 was literally €675 vs any 3050 of at least €950 (with mediocre CPU compared to this 4800h, Monitor or just a brand that felt extremely cheap for that price point.. I didn't want to shelve out 950-1050 for a laptop I wasn't sure what firmware or driver issues it would have when I got home, entrylevel/budget laptops like acer or hp typically are infested by small bugs/glitches or firmware/drivers that simply doesn't work right.. Not to mention the potential for bloat you do not want and thus having to clean sweep the laptop before even being able to play.. Can't go wrong with something like an rog strix for 675 on sale, really.. especially if you don't want to deal with crap brands like HP and Acer will give you for the same (or even more) price ), seeing what I play... I couldn't have made a better choice, also: given the price, I was quite lucky to say the least... It was during an get ready for school/outlet sale at some small pc boutique in my country, really for the price I paid I couldn't have found any better laptop. Especially not with a CPU that is atleast something comparable to a 4800h (for 1080p and wanting to sometimes use blender on the go, yeah best CPU for the price in this laptop). I was looking to spend around €1000 but only if I'd feel happy about that purchase, but when I saw this deal ... I didn't have to think twice about it and took my girlfriend to a fancy restaurant after. I've owned and repaired many laptops in the past, so I know from first hand what brands and segments you should avoid especially if you have a certain budget in mind.
Asus tuf ryzen 5 with GTX 1650 Or Asus tuf ryzen 7 rtx 3050 Which should I buy? I could have the GTX one right now but the rtx one is alittle higher than my budget so I need to wait but I feel hard to wait..and im curious that I could make mistake Is there high difference between these two??
I have a 3050 laptop, it´s a really nice if you don't require too much horsepower. Before that I had a 1650 laptop and my opinion is that it was quite solid for my use case.
i hope i saw this since when i bought my 2021 asus rog strix g15 ryzen 7 4800H gtx 1650 i wasnt really educated with pc specs, and i bought it for $950 and i just had to $60 for the rtx 3050 version
To be fair, the 3050 is on a different performance level than the 1650. The 3050 is almost identical to the 1660 Super, 1660 Ti, and the 1070. The 3050 is a better deal though. Personally I would save up a bit more and shoot for at least a 3060 laptop.
and also dont buy 3050 laptop unless its price range is near to a 3060 but better to avoid cheap nitro 3060 variants because acer cuts corners too much
What? The 3060 nitro is fine. Watch nuclear laptop's break down of the nitro 5. Also, it smacks a rtx 3050 any day of the week. While costing nearly as much as them. And besides, now you got $900 130w rtx 3060 gigabyte a5's. A good rtx 3050 laptop costs $800 still.
@@siyzerix Dude, they weren't lying when they said Acer cuts corners. I own a 1660 ti Nitro 5 variant myself - while the GPU performs well, the CPU is crippled by power throttling to 45w and the thermals are abysmal on it. It may be "fine" for the first few months of usage but the faults really start to show up after a while. I don't recommend this laptop for long term usage. Most Tech reviewers almost never highlight the performance of laptops after an extended period of usage.

Very good and informative video. But all i got from it was "dont buy a gaming laptop". My old tower PCs gtx 1070 is getting WAY more FPS then the rtx 3050. Especially when u need to plug ur laptop in for max performance anyways. Also why do companys promote 144hz gaming laptop screens if most laptops cant even hit decent FPS to begin with. Dont get me wrong, i own a laptop ontop of my gaming rig at home for work and i absolutly get the "portable" argument, but most "gamers" play plugged in at home anyways. Idk. The fact that it can run current titles faster than a 1650 doesn't mean it will run future titles faster because it will suffer just as much from low vram as the 1650 and the performance diff beetween the two will become negligible.

Here in India 3050 (85 watt) ideapad gaming with Ryzen 5 5600H costs around 860USD, and the 1650 (75watt) Ryzen 5 5600H goes for around 740USD,
this might be a silly question, but why is the power consumption different if spec-wise, both computers have the same TDP? shouldn't they be running at relatively similar watts/temps if they were running full steam?
could be the fact that both laptops can run up to 80 watts, which concludes the fact that the RTX laptop would clearly have higher consumption since GTX can only consume up to 50 watts

I got a laptop with a 1660 ti (non max q) and it has served me wonders in all games i've played except unoptimized ones
It is crazy that reviewers creates so much hatred (i think unintentionally) for 3050 that some people really wanted to buy 1650 over that
That's cause they review the 3050 and compare it to 3090s lol
It's not all about don't and do's but we don't have a choice but to go with a laptop that fits our budget whether it be a mx, gtx or an rtx.
Well, it's about, if it's not that higher a price, you should buy a rtx 3050 laptop instead of a GTX 1650 laptop.
I have the same thing so im pretty sure its not a 1650 ti lol, it might just be a regular 1650.
the price diff between rtx 3050 and gtx1650 is damn big at my country
My main rig has a 3070ti (which is obviously way op than laptop graphics) will be interesting to compare the differences
thats great for me i bought a 3050 for roblox is it good?

when comparing these 2, I immediately go for the 3050. DLSS is obviously a huge boost compared to the 1650, and almost all new games will support it.
Great comparison. For casual gaming 3050 is not bad at all actually. I got the msi gf66 with 3050 and i5 11400h + 8gb ram for 710$. I mainly use it for software development but it can handle most games like a champ. Even ray tracing is not a problem when combined with dlss.
@Lurch7861 you should always use dlss quality even if you get 60fps
@@hmmm5300
Hello,
Ok after 3 months of having this laptop here is what i have to say:
Problems that i have found:
1) The battery is really bad. (There is a setting that prevents the battery from charging to 100% in msi center)
2) The screen brightness is not that great compared to other machines but to me its absolutely fine.
Productivity:
I have tested it in programs like photoshop, illustrator, Dreamweaver, Unreal Engine, Unity, Visual Studio, Access and Microsoft Office in general.
Gaming:
Well the only games that i have played are Horizon zero dawn and Control.
Insides:
- It has 2 rams slots with 8 gb ram installed in one slot (SAMSUNG) and the other slot is free for upgrade,
- It has 1 ssd nvmie m.2 slot occupied by the pre-installed disk (KINGSTON)
- Also has an empty slot for ssd or hdd SATA3 for more space in case of upgrade.
+ I like the shortcut for fan turbo mode after hours of gaming it lowers the temperature instantly
+ Easy shortcut to turn off the camera
+ The laptop speakers are fine.
The same laptop mentioned for 3050 but with 500gb ssd is going for 690$ TAXES included so net price is 690 over here in India
These 3050 laptops are really good and paired with 11400h is just an icing on the cake (p.s. for games 5600h vs 11400h normally intel is better for gaming FOR LAPTOPS)
Still selling gaming laptop with gtx 1650 10th gen i5 over 800- 1000$ from where i live
GTX 1650 nearly 40-60 FPS towards the End of 2022 is actually still impressive. For a Graphic Card of the 10r Series and as a Notebook Model even more so.
Makes me more grateful abt my 1650 laptop and tbh I’m fine with 40 fps considering that is the fps of my ps4

1650 is still really good if you optimize everything you get like 400 fps on esport games
Very good comparison !! Keep up the good work !!
The GTX is better than the RTX.
Honestly, it's a shame that we even need a review to be sure that a 3050 is better value than the card it replace...

It's crazy how thinkpads with Celerons from the 90s cost more than today's low / mid range computers and some of the high end ones too
I have the 1650 blade stealth and find it plays everything I need it to, on the go. Medium to low settings on a 13inch screen is just fine for me. At home, my desktop has the eye candy.

you can usually push 1650 into high honestly and it's fine, they're ridiculous strong little cards

I want to remind everyone that the 1650 isn't even faster than the 1060 mobile from 2016. It should really be branded with the "MX" suffix instead of "GTX" because of the bottom of the barrel performance.
Or RTX 3050M.

When making any purchase you should consider much more than performance only, including price, availability, practicality, size, your personal needs as a user or customer and potential resale value if you plan on selling in a few years
Case and point I've just bought a 1650 and 8gb ram laptop within last 6 weeks and it does everything I need it to.
There's two reasons, 1. Much cheaper to get the 1650. And 2. Severe temperatures when purchasing the other.
The rtx 3050 isn’t that much hotter than the gtx 1650
50w 1650 vs 50w 3050 wont make a different
Might vary by region, but I've shown the the 3050 can be cheaper. Not to mention the temperature difference doesn't matter, as long as it's not hitting the 87c thermal throttle limit we're good and there's nothing to worry about.
@@JarrodsTech Liar!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Edit:
For some perspective:-
Acer Aspire 7 2022(i5 1240p , GTX 1650) sells for 55- 57k or about 650 USD, and this is among the cheapest of gaming laptops.
Sad thing about the computer price situation in India...
It's better to build a desktop PC yourself if you're going to do alot of gaming. Desktops are matchless to laptop in-terms of Performance VS. Cost Ratio.

I love how this guy gets to the point unlike other UA-camrs who tell you the conclusion at last
As for me, not so much differences between 1650 and 3050. I was expecting more
Great comparison video. Also, has anyone ever told you that you look like the guy from Retro Game Corps? It's uncanny. I would have said it is the same guy except your voice is demonstrably different than his.
Damn perfect video for me as I was deciding what to buy between 1650 vs 3050
Stretch your budget a bit and try to buy rtx 3060 laptop. Rtx 3060 is much better than 3050.
@@drthbn true bro . But I thought of buying a laptop just for fifa , and will try to buy a PS5 or else xbox series s for regular gaming
@@RingmaiWar fifa runs fine even on a toaster so you are good there
@@drthbn worried about the new fifa 23 as it is generation one . I guess 4gb graphics card will not be enough
@@RingmaiWar in that case wait for the benchmarks
Nvidia should've refreshed the 3050 with 6gb when they released the 3070ti and 3080ti.
It just kneecapped it into oblivion with that stupid decision
@@TabalugaDragon that's because new cards are just ovens with 450w (bdw look at 4000 serie).
Rtx 3060 mobile have more cores, than desktop and is in good spot of laptop cooling limitations. 60 serie give good value.
@@michael87012 love how the only response they have to this is "no"
It only has 4 memory controllers, that means 4gb or 8gb. Mixing 1 and 2gb chips is not possible.
Me who has 1650ti😎(it's only a 2% improv lol)
lol same
Hey jarrod, always nice to watch new videos from you, they are always helpful and useful. I wonder if you have any opinion regarding to the 12650h. Thank you in advance.
Anything I have to say about it would be in the IdeaPad review a week or two ago as that's the only time I've had that CPU.
I bought an Acer Nitro 5 with gtx 1650 2 years ago, looking to upgrade now. Should I upgrade my gpu or just buy a new laptop? I'm getting an external monitor too (144hz)
You can't upgrade the GPU inside a laptop, so go for the latter
@@crimson-xD thanks
Its always good to see a well done review by our friend Jarrod, but Full Hd in a 15.6 display and above 30 fps is enough for me,enjoying the games like the ps1 era!
do not let minor things ruin your pleasure of gaming..
me playing ps1 games on poco x3 using emulator
So seeing those of benchmark (as long as the game wont use more than 6gb Vram) in UA-cam can give you performance you can expect out of RTX 3050 35w.
the 1650 is still holding up pretty good though
especially with low temps, it's more than enough for me.
I got the Lenovo IdeaPad Gaming 3 (Ryzen 5 5600H + RTX 3050) with Crosshair Vengeance (16×2) 3200 MHz RAM and a Samsung 1 TB NVMe SSD with a total cost of $480 💀
All thanks to Black Friday!
I am blown away by the result of 1650 vs 3050 on cyberpunk
Like they both have SAME score but 3050 have 2x + more cuda cores
Any TL;DR for as to why this is happening? because of FSR?
Yes the 3050 is good but the 4gb vram limits it alot so just get a 3060 laptop xd or 1660 laptop I have a 3060 laptop rn it's a msi gf 65thin 2021 model with a i7 9750h and 2x 8gb 2933mhz for only 1.2kusd (I live in india)
What brands of laptops would you recommend?
Asus tuf ryzen 5 with GTX 1650
Or
Asus tuf ryzen 7 rtx 3050
Which should I buy? I could have the GTX one right now but the rtx one is alittle higher than my budget so I need to wait but I feel hard to wait..and im curious that I could make mistake
Is there high difference between these two??
I have a 3050 laptop, it´s a really nice if you don't require too much horsepower. Before that I had a 1650 laptop and my opinion is that it was quite solid for my use case.
3050 has pretty decent performance still. Much better for gaming than a macbook.
Nice shirt! In flames has great music🔥
🤘
i hope i saw this since when i bought my 2021 asus rog strix g15 ryzen 7 4800H gtx 1650 i wasnt really educated with pc specs, and i bought it for $950 and i just had to $60 for the rtx 3050 version
To be fair, the 3050 is on a different performance level than the 1650. The 3050 is almost identical to the 1660 Super, 1660 Ti, and the 1070. The 3050 is a better deal though. Personally I would save up a bit more and shoot for at least a 3060 laptop.
rtx 3060 is only 7000 rupees more than gtx 1650 right? btw i have intel integrated card😭
My budget is around $600 i dont think 3050 is my options i would still have to buy 1650
1650 is good I'm telling u that. I just bought my 1650 Acer Aspire 7 and it does the job well enough.
If you really need a laptop now, go for it. If not, just save some more money.
I'm assuming you're in India. If so, just get a refurbished gtx 1650 laptop. Should run you about $500. Even less if you go for exchanges and deals.
and also dont buy 3050 laptop unless its price range is near to a 3060 but better to avoid cheap nitro 3060 variants because acer cuts corners too much
Any 3060 variant is far better than a 3050.
@@rulvra3072 did you undervolt the cpu and gpu? Will give 10-15 degree drop. Did you prop it up for airflow?
@@siyzerix -128 mV undervolt on both Core and cache. Artic MX4 thermal paste with the back of the laptop raised to facilitate airflow from vents. Still 92+ Celsius on FPS and heavy open world titles. GPU runs cool and fast tho.
At that point id rather be looking into getting a secondary work machine thats less expensive.
I bought my 1650 laptop back in late 2019 and i dont feel the need to upgrade, not yet anyway
