  • I mis-spoke about Rust (Fe2O3) reacting with phosphoric acid. It doesn't get converted to magnetite (Fe3O4), it gets converted to an iron phosphate (likely Fe(PO4) or similar). Especially embarrassing since I'm a chemistry professor 🤦‍♂️. I switched to working on the rear tire panel since I want to get all that work done before my son moves out of town and I no longer have his help handling the spot welder.

I had to remove one of the brackets on the spare tire door. I may have to remove the other one to get the dents out on that side. I too spent a fair amount of time working on this part and still have more to get if finished. Frank

Hi Frank... The plate on the rear of the bracket that sits against the skin didn't actually touch it and so any closing pressure naturally pulled on the skin (creating the dent). I'm considering moving it closer to the skin to remove that slop, but need to adjust where the closing catch sits... all I wanted to do was make enough progress to spot weld closed the lower closing panels, but since the knee bone is connected to the shin bone, I had to back all the way up to the tire tub panel 🤣

haha... My wife returned not long ago from an Alaskan Cruise with her sisters, I should have had her stop in and pick it up ;-) Hope you are well Mike and the white stuff stays away for a while yet.
