Students can always make up their schooling, whatever time they lose. But they cannot revive when they die, nor repair the damage COVID-19 does to their body parts.
With the modern internet you can learn anything under the sun already, there's no real need to go risk your life going out.

@@alijahparker1015 Parents that are sick of kids being home. I literally heard this from several parents. Not "I have to work to feed my children, so they need to be in school". Parents (not all) can't handle the kids at home with them and that's the truth. They rather them get sick then teach them at home and be parents 😒

I am a teacher of K-5 students. It would be a huge distraction from learning to have students, especially very young ones, in a school building during this pandemic. I know from experience that trying to maintain mask wearing and social distancing among students would be a ridiculously difficult task for teachers and administration.
@Zebra Lady75 that is. the only way to safely begin the school year is with remote/online learning only. My school system is going online only, and putting wifi hotspots on buses so they can park the buses in neighborhoods where there is little or no internet.
I remember the issue about seat belts in school buses and how hard it would be to enforce kids to use them. And now we have masks ? Boy the bus drivers are going to love it.
Right now is NOT SAFE FOR KIDS IN A CLASS ROOM.

I’m confused about your posting? Are you trying to say this disease isn’t real? My brother is a doctor as well as one of his best friends. They work in two separately hospitals and it’s really real. Actually his friend caught COVID from working in the hospital helping patients. My former coworker and her family contracted it. Her mother nearly died. Another friends grandmother died from it. I can provide countless stories so on. One fact is everyone doesn’t die from it. There are several strands of it. Some are more deadly than others which plays a part in beating it. In addition to prior health issues.

For those complaining about the economy... If you don’t have your health, you won’t have an economy. This can be over in far less time if we have the restrictions, do the social distancing, and stay home with the exception of essential workers. If you open too soon, you see a resurgence in the virus, the amount of cases, and the amount of deaths. Then the economy gets worse because all of this lasts longer. You have to shut down again and start over.

Not everyone has a job that can be worked from home , or surivive on one income , I am one of those people and it hurts and makes me feel guilty that I am sending my kid to school , my unemployment bonus is ending and my husband is an essential worker , if he gets sick we are screwed as he makes the bigger paycheck. If a child gets the virus , the entire class and the teacher go on quarantine . Children need to be tested for the virus . You cannot bus children with social distance. Little ones are not going to keep masks in and will try and take them off . They cannot maintain social distance in classrooms either.

IN a normal year, teachers spend HUNDREDS of dollars of their own money. I'm retired, but if I were still in the classroom, I wouldn't go back. If I did, I wouldn't buy ISH!
I remember when so many said “most people don’t know anyone with the virus” as if to downplay it. It was true, I didn’t back in May, but now I know at least 5 people and that doesn’t include the members of their household that didn’t get tested because it was just assumed they had it. Now people are saying “yeah but, have you known anyone to die of it”. I don’t need to have it or have a loved one die from it to realize this is a big deal.
exactly, I am always rather safe than sorry... even if it means I am over-thinking and paranoid, it will not hurt to do what I can to protect myself and everybody around me. For me, it was enough to see what was going on in Italy at the end of February/early March to know that this was a big deal... and so I get upset about people who wait until it touches them personally to start giving a sh*t, thanks to them it grew to these proportions...
Tatiana you are not overthinking. I relented and went to a work meeting at my boss’s house a week ago. My boss is very kind, but he didn’t tell us his teen was getting tested until we got there. He was sure she didn’t have it because the boy who potentially exposed her tested negative. Against my better judgment I stayed. We were outside and stayed 6 feet apart. There were less than 5 people total. This was our first outing and the rest of the time we all work from home. We all let our guard down once after months of social distancing. Today her results came back positive! I’ve been feeling run down for 2 days and now my husband is running a low fever. We will get tested ASAP, but please do not let your guard down. If we have it, I can tell you that this thing is contagious even outside. The only thing we didn’t do was wear masks. All it takes is one poor decision to set off a domino effect. Stay safe!

There are many false negatives, which does not help to slow this down either... It sucks that it affects also people that have been doing the right thing for months. The rate of children below the age of ten dying from the virus is very, very low. However, much is not known about the rate of transmission. The problem is that they could get infected from another person who has not shown the signs either and then pass it down to their parents or school teacher. Also, teachers and staff can pass it to each other. Most schools are not equiped with the necessary filtration systems necessary to not pass the virus through their ventilation systems. In most poor schools this is a problem.

It is the norm in many places. I have friends teaching across the country and globally and those in the US, every last one of them, routinely spend their own money on supplies and materials. Low income kids can’t afford all of those school supplies, especially when it comes down to school supplies or putting food on the table and keeping the utilities on.
Folks need to realize that just because they are cozy, warm, and fed, doesn’t mean everyone gets to live that way.
Believe it or not many teachers actually look out for their students.

Schools will open up virtually, and we will roll in hybrid and full time learning when cases decrease. Teachers are essential to the well being of their students.
Most districts are opening with brick and mortar option with the ability for parents to choose on-line. St. Lucie County is over 50% returning to brick and mortar.

Kids just need WiFi and a chromebook to educate from home. Our teachers in MI were capable of knowing if the students were doing their work or not. I also think this time out could be used to restart things safely.
Same way here in Nashville. All students will have notebooks and hotspot.

Children have enough innate immunity, such that the viral load never is big enough to transmit infection. It is possible that an infected teacher could infect another teacher, but teachers should be adult enough to be careful.

We have to protect the most vunerable and mitigate the risk as much as possible. Kids need to learn, need to socialize, many need the food that school provides.

I believe she is in Coral way Elementary school. It is a beautiful campus. I miss that school1mu son went there for two years before moving to north Florida. Sonia Galindo public education is yet another facet of the unfortunate reality that we are finally waking up to, en masse. If politicians cared about kids at all, regardless of pandemic, our teachers wouldn’t be underpaid and our students wouldn’t end up underserved by a ridiculously outdated educational system, run by a bunch of buffoons with not an inkling of a clue as to what it’s like to actually lead a classroom.

And it's even worse in places where the demographics are made up of minorities. It's made to keep certain people down. I had 3 young cousins who had to escape Mexico, but luckily that had been legalized several years prior, and they did not speak any English. All three were straight A students, their first report card, not having known English. It goes to show how awful the US education system is.

For sure teachers are underpaid, but they won’t be spending their money on classroom materials this year. Districts nationwide are instructing teachers to remove everything from every classroom except for desks and chairs.

The reason to quarantine between getting the test and receiving the results is also to ensure the result is still correct. The test results will tell you whether you were positive or negative at the time the swab/s was taken, you could contract the virus within the 10 days it can take to get a negative result so, you should be taking every precaution to ensure your actual status remains true within the interim

My school district sent out a survey asking how parents, teachers, and students feel about reopening. They showed us the results. Teachers and students support reopening. It's the parents who are against it.
Aside from wishful thinking, what are the plans for: School bus realities? Playground realities? Attending to children with COVID related physical vulnerabilities? The foreseeable contagion shutdown protocols? Policies for noncompliance with COVID guidelines? The delivery of programs that are now contagion high risk? The lack of substitute teachers? Dealing with contractual implications regarding risk and gross negligence?

My landlords are amazing and are working with us...we have been able to double up rent with my husband's unemployment but I really fear for our family's future...our country's future... I am painfully aware of the bipartisan denial and lack of action .....that they don't care.
My taxes had a small math mistake...filed in February 2019....Not recieved yet....my first stimulus payment was tied to this Eventhough my AGI for 2018 and 2019 made us eligible....they are holding my stimulus...
Also applied for EIDL...never got anything will I watched people in my exact same situation...who I helped to apply...get funded??? Oh.....I applied for unemployment in June...third party outsourced customer service is mishandling that....I don't know why this is like this and it's acceptable to those who supposedly are in public service....I am blown away...but I will never give up...when and if we survive this crisis..I will build my wealth...take charge of my credit....be Kevin's star student...lol
