  • One of my buddies let me test out his BRAND NEW V2. Let's see how it stacks up. Would I buy one? Should you?
I was shocked to see that a GMRS ONLY radio couldn't get the advertised wattage output. You'll see what I mean. Other than that, I think it's a cool radio, perfect size, monitors VHF and weather and dual PTT keys... Let's see if it has the range it needs to be reliable!!!
**CORRECTION** At some point in the video I said "waterproof". This radio is only WEATHERPROOF. Sorry!
Check out the features this radio has:
-GMRS 2-Way Radios - The GMRS-V2 Features 200 Customizable Channels that can be used for GMRS, NOAA or Scanning.
-The radio has the ability to scan and check for activity. The GMRS-V2 offers an IP54 weather proof resistant casing.
-Customizable - Quickly add any GMRS/NOAA Channels/Scanner Channels to any channel location. ---GMRS channels are customizable to use up to 5W output and transmit on narrowband or wideband. -Customize channel names and more using the free CHIRP programming software
-Feature Packed - Nuisance Channel Scan Skip, Display Sync, FM Radio, NOAA Radio, Transmit Time-Out, Busy Channel Lockout, DTMF Keypad, Adjustable Scanning Modes, Dual Watch, Adjustable Squelch

I'll be completely honest and say that I discovered gmrs radio after finding the notaRubicon UA-cam channel. I knew about FRS and gmrs but my only experience with gmrs was with the bubble pack radios at Walmart. I still really enjoy the notarubicon UA-cam channel for his humor in new product reviews but I also really enjoy your channel because you just seem like a regular guy that a person can sit down and have a cup of coffee with and talk about radios or just life. I really enjoy watching people use gmrs radios not just a product review or unboxing.

SDR is fun to play with. I connected mine to an 11m antenna (yes that's CB) one time and listened to the smack talk on CB.

    I got my V2 over a month or two ago. I did a power test it’s on high 4.45 , my V1 radios are as follows, 4.95, 4.45 and 5.15 .
My 20V2 mini mobile radio by BTECH radio puts out 17 watts . Supposed to be 20watts

I found the GMRS-V2 fits well in my hand. It's larger than the UV-5R. You must be reviewing the old model I heard about, as my radio has a USB port. So what? I hate it. I have worn out many cords from the USB-C connector wearing out. I like the tried and true drop-in charger. I hear from others that it does do 5 watts or close to it.

The model I reviewed was one from right after it was released.

My V2 gets right around 4 watts as well. The ‘missing’ watt isn’t a big deal however, as I’m able to hit all the repeaters in my area. The V2 is a great radio, imho.

If you're able to hit 'em, then you're in great shape! 👍 Out where we are, with the hills, any extra "wattages" we can get helps. Lol. Thanks for watching and commenting!

Just subscribed to your Channel liking everything so far. I just purchased my first gmrs radio it was the baofeng uv-5g. Really liked everything about it but had to send it back the sound quality was good when transmitting and talking through it but when walking around or just driving around it would keep glitching in and out in and out in and out like it was receiving something on all the channels it drove me crazy so I sent it back waiting for replacement. Hope it was just something wrong with those and the new ones will be good if not I might buy one of these V2

Well... #1, Thanks for subscribing! #2, Thanks for the compliment! #3, I'm super excited you got into GMRS. #4, I think you got a bad radio. Out of the 2 dozen or so I have purchased I've only had 1 bad one. WELCOME TO THE CHANNEL!

The current production radios comes with a battery that has a USB-C charging port on the bottom of the battery. When I ordered extras of the same size battery off of the website they DID NOT have the USB-C charging port, bummer.

Hmmmm... that is strange! That USB-C plug is a game changer in my opinion. It's too bad the extra batteries didn't have it.

Can you do a quick overview of Bluetooth? Will it connect to AirPods? Will VOX work on Bluetooth?

How do I scan GMRS, without the NOA channels always interrupting 🤦🏽‍♂️

    • @MCTGMRS78009
      @MCTGMRS78009  Рік тому

You will need to program those channels to be skipped while in scanning mode. If you are using CHIRP, it should be the column to the far right if I'm not mistaken.

What do people expect with Chinese radios? The wholesale price for these on Alibaba is $15.

In the last power test I saw on this radio there was no cable from the radio to the watt meter, just an adapter fitting. That test showed a true 5 watts plus a tad more. Your coax looks really thin and there must be a foot or more between the radio and meter. I'm betting my boots you have some RF loss there, otherwise not an accurate reading. Lose the cable and use a straight adapter fitting and I'm betting your reading goes up. I don't own this radio or any Btech radios, I just think in the other power test video there was better equipment and a more accurate reading done.
