In this video I review the (mostly) new Ailunce HA1G GMRS radio - I go over all the options and features of this new radio from Ailunce, which, seems to be owned by Retevis. I do a power output test of the radio, and talk about all the things you would expect to hear in a GMRS radio review.

I just bought 2 of these from your link on the Amazon's they are the 2nd gen radios and come with the waterproof handheld Mic/ speaker... can't wait to see how they purrform...thank you Randy for both your straight forward knowledge and crooked but true snarkiness 👍🇺🇸🤘 I am serious and don't call me Shirley.....beeep
Well, 3 months in and I just got my GMRS license. I feel like celebrating the fact that I managed to get through the website.
facts !!!
You passed the test!!!!!!
No better feeling than paying big brother for the use of FREE AIRWAVES ..we should get together soon for TEA in Boston
Ailunce (Ocean)
Lmfao 🤣
Ale-lunch…nope, ocean is better!
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
The fuq
It's not chirp compatible for now
I’m not sure what I enjoy more, your informative reviews or your colorful commentary. Keep up the good work.
I’m new to GMRS, I received this radio a couple of weeks ago and I really like the radio. However, I’m glad I’m it’s not just me that can’t get windows 11 to work. Also, I feel exactly how you do. When I purchase something I expect it to work, not lead you down a rabbit hole just to hit a dead end. Thanks for the video.
The antenna that come with this radio is really good. I'm able to hit the Crest repeater in Santiago Peak from the comfort of my bathtub.
You can also flash it with an unofficial firmware that will "unlock" the radio so you can transmit on the 2m/70cm bands (alot of sad hams & FCC police don't approve)
Where can I find such a firmware?
What is the name of that website and the firmware please
I have watched so many of your vids. If anybody give you crap.... IGNORE them!!!!!!!!!!! I severely enjoy your presentation and style! Keep it up!!!!!
Glad you went through this radio. I added it to my list to purchase. Thanks
Nice work Randy Calling retavis out On the Privacy codes lie about private communication 14:20 @NotaRubicon Productions
Glad to see a company come out with a more intuitive screen menu system
Thank you for this video! Always great content and knowledge!
Great video as always Randy @NotaRubicon Productions
Thats the nicest heavy duty looking gmrs radio I've ever seen, it looks like a poor man's Motorola, i like it!
My UV-9Gs have that Motorola feel to them too.
They are really well built and rugged
Agree to what you said about programming it.
I really like the user interface on this one!
awesome video this my next gmrs radio thankyou for sharing
Tanks you for your vidéo. Hello from Québec Canada 👋
Thank you!!
I just recently purchased two at the same time as a bundle pack on Amazon, which was a great way to purchase myHAg1
The adjustable MicbGain is nice
I love my Ailunce HD1. A GMRS version is an absolute must for me
how good is it im thinking off buying one i already have the retevis A-1 for ham radio the hd1 will be my next radio for GMRS
This is why i keep a few old windows xp laptops, they are for programming all my radios :)
I like the features for sure. Not enough Farz though.. 😂. I want more farz. Where's the beef. 😂.. Just kidding.
So far my favorite radio has been my Beofeng GM 15 pro with the long antenna and I'm able to talk to my buddy on his Tid Radio at about 4.3 miles. Pretty flat land, but lots of trees and buildings and it works great. ❤
Always good videos here sir. ❤
Thanks for another good vid.
Tim.. wrzf 693..
Zones are great for traveling to other lands fars away 😊
Another helpful review - as to channel groups, your pal on Ham Radio Crash Course suggested planning road trips by programming groups by the areas you are passing through. I thought that was a legit suggestion…now please excuse me while I get another Hot Pocket.
Agreed Amazon vs website. Been waiting on my Retevis RA86 to arrive from China
One day my rage over the broken pencil will overwhelm me.
Im livin on a razors edge.
Touch and go man. Touch and go.
Banks and Zones on radios help me keep my Florida and New Hampshire channels grouped… if you travel between a few areas you might find them helpful.
For the windows issue, agreed you shouldn't have to do any damn thing. There is a way to run compatibility mode on the app that maybe can be tried. Don't mind to help if ya need if not thats fine. Keep rocking the videos. Enjoy the content.
Mario come Monday I got the HA1G Ailunce GMRS Ailunce hd1
That thing looks like the illicit lovechild of a Motorola and a Baofeng.
Loved the Zone comment, Mr. XTS/XTL 5000.
I Want One!!
Open up that wallet. The moths need air.
I bought one from Amazon on sale 59 bucks I love it one best little radios for gmrs, I getting the ham version to see how it works , hopefully just as good and well built 👍 very user friendly key pad once you get past the garbled chi American instructions
What model is the Ham version?
Love it
I purchased the HA1-G because I have the Ailunce HD-1 DMR radio, and yes, this radio is of the same build quality as the Motorola 7650.
The radio did come with the programming cable, and I am using Windows 10 Pro, and I get the Hot Not Found error.
I did my programming thru the keypad and the radio performs well.
Hopefully, Retevis will fix the software so we can do firmware updates. 😸
Suggestion for zones that I programmed. Zone 1 Channel 1 thru 16. Zone 2 Channels 17-20. Zone 3 All repeater channels only. Avoid dialing thru FRS channels just to dial repeater channels only. So far the radio is wonderfull . I bought from manufacturer and tech support has been excellent. I now have a beta version of new firmware coming soon with some improvements that I have suggested.
Pass.. thanks for sharing the details.
You can screw the antennae set screw in if you don't want it coming loose. I think the factory just got lazy about doing it as mine both shipped loose also. After a quick inspection I went ahead and set mine so the won't be coming loose on accident.
Awesome Channel Love It 👍
I have no use for a GMRS radio but appreciate the entertainment value and comments.😊
Hey dude been watching you for a long time good job,I bought a moto astro 5000 do you know we're I can download a programming site Please Thanks
i use zones on my xts for repeaters I programmed especially the ones that are out of state or socal norcal even
Menu system reminds me of the Baofeng UV-17 Pro and the UV-21R and UV-21G Randy 9:00 @NotaRubicon Productions
You had me at Minnie Pearl.....
What is the antenna connection? Any suggestions on remote/shoulder mics and alternative antennas? Thanks!
Nice, how do you actually activate the roger beep tho? What menu category is it in? I couldn't find it after scrolling through them all - maybe I missed it? Thx
Far from an expert on zones so I could be way off but my understanding is, you can set up repeaters for your home town in one zone and if you travel you can pre set repeaters in different zones along your route so all you do is switch zones as you get to your next location.
Hey Randy, did you notice if it will do single channel display rather than two channels at the same time? Love your videos!
At around 7:50 he addresses this issue.
You can use the zones for better organization. And quicker acquisition of frequencies when you have a bunch of frequencies programmed.
For example:
zone 1 Can have your gmrs channels
Zone 2 can house your
FRS channels
Zone 3 can have your NOAA CHANNELS
CH4 CAN HAVE YOUR TALK AROUND FREQUENCIES
The Zones helps out greatly when you have.
Several Frequencies program into your radio.
I use zones to sort frequencies by county or region. Keeps you from having to sort through dozens of channels when you’re traveling out of your typical area.
Look a little a Motorola SABER at the top. Of course, the MOTOROLA SABER isn't a part 95 A or E compliant, but I'm sure that radio will be useful for all uses.
If "Zones" can be used like "Banks" in a scanner radio (so you can limit the scan to one or more banks), that would be useful.
Or use them for different lands one travels to!😊
All hail radio king.
Interesting new Brand Randy @NotaRubicon Productions
Can you do a review on the Ailunce HD1 Radio?
Located in CHYNA
Chickies dig the belt clip
Is the antenna worth changing out or is the on this walkie actually good?
Love me a wakitaki ✌ yay, Cheetos!
Randy - can you make an in depth video on this radio?
I’m just here for the wrist strap handling
Zones can be used for teams
For anyone still struggling with the software, I just installed it without issue or need for a driver on an old HP laptop running Windows 7. I keep one around for 'legacy' software issues. I - never - got it to run on Win10 or Win11.
How does the display brightness of the HA1G compare to the HD1. I cannot read my HD1 in most outdoor situations. Thanks!
It's just slightly better. I was comparing them side by side the other day in the sunlight. I wish they allowed changing the font color to white because it would be more discernible in the blue background. That certainly would help with the visibility issue.
On the amazon it says there is a GPS version as well for 30 some extra Dollars. Also not covered in this video it says it has a "promiscuous function". What's that about?
Anyone know if the waterproof speaker mic port / connector can take an APX mic I have one and don’t know if it will work the radio is ordered just curious on if it will atleast even plug into the thing?
I purchased several of this radios to do search and rescue in the desert. Retevis has good specials and you can get six of them for 319 dollars.
I've had a real bad experience with these radios though. I have only used two of them so I don't know if all six have the problem.
What happens is that the radios sometimes freeze. I pull it out of my belt holster and I press any of the keys on the keyboard, turn the knobs, or press the PTT button, and the radio does nothing. Doesn't transmit, the screen doesn't light up (I have it set for the screen to turn off after 2 minutes), it does nothing. I have to turn off the radio and then turn it back on for it to start working again.
I have tried resetting the radios to the factory settings but that doesn't fix the problem. I've tried many other things, and nothing. Like I said before, two of the radios have that problem. I don't know about the other four. Weird enough, it can go days without doing it and all of a sudden start doing it. Go figured!
I have noticed that it appears that it happens only when I have it in my belt holster. When I carry in my hand or in the cup holder in my car, it doesn't do it. So keep that in mind in you plan to carry yours in a holster.
I contacted Ailunce's tech support and they asked my to send them a video. I did about two weeks ago and I haven't heard back from them.
Other than that I really like the radios. I like that they have a lot of features. Including scramble and companding (I believe that you can only set these two through the programming program. I haven't found these two features in the radio's menu. Weird!). You can also adjust the backlight brightness and time before it display turns off, Mic gain, menu timeout, and more. I also like the way it feels, pretty rugged. I also like the fact that it's "waterproof." Rated at IP67, if I remember correctly.
Sorry for the long commend. 🙂
My Ailunce HD1 does both ham and GMRS. Not sure why I'd get the GMRS HA1G
I use zones on my HD1 radios to organize gmrs, frs, murs, ham, group (shtf group), etc essentially "folders" for channel organization. That way you can switch to gmrs zone and when scrolling channels, i only see the 21 or so, and not all 200 programmed channels. Curious if this is a good cheaper option for those of us wanting to be able to tx/rx on gmrs AND ham for shtf, the gps versions i have are freaking $200 (ailunce hd1 dmr w/gps).
Zones are good if one travels out to different lands.
How do you like the HD1? That radio has been on my want list for a while but I never finished ordering one. Used to have a Tytera MD-380 DMR. Hoping for performance at least that good.
This radio can TX on 2m/70cm after you flash the firmware.
@@plutonium76 What flash?
Between the two radios, this Ailunce HA1G GMRS Radio and Retevis Ailunce HA1G GMRS Radio, which one would you purchase and why is it better? Oh, by the way, love the channel and your sense of humor!!😆
Watch this video - it tells you which one to buy: ua-cam.com/video/78T7k3to1PE/v-deo.html
I'm really like the videos you've shared; they're fantastic! I'm considering the **Retevis HA1G**, **Baofeng UV-9G**, and **GMRS UV-9R** for use in a wooded community, where we need to maintain communication within a 1-mile radius. Durability is key, so an IP67 rating is essential. While I'm aware that there are more premium radios available, budget constraints lead me to purchase six units, so affordability is a priority. Rest assured, all users, including myself, are licensed for GMRS, and I'm also working towards my amateur radio technician license. Out of these radios which do you think would do the best job?
Thanks again.
I think the best ones for the job are the ones that have the features that best meet all of your needs.
@@TheNotaRubicon Thank you for the very fast reply! Did you find that one felt more rugged than the other? Feature wise I like them both so for me I think it would come down to the ruggedness or build quality.
I found the answer to my question in one of your other videos. Thanks again for the great videos!
When I received my package, one box did not have cable, but the other box did
The biggest issue with this radio is spelled UV-9G. Lower price, chirp compatible, and comes with a programming cable. I like Retevis radios more than Baofengs in general, but not THAT much more. My UV-9g has provided stellar service for several years. This hag-1 model doesn’t overwhelm me with radio lust.
You cant play with your UV-9G in the bathtub.. Thats a deal-breaker for a lot of people.
@@TheNotaRubicon not true! Its IP67 rating means that its rubber ducky is totally tub worthy for 30 minutes or so!
@@clydeosterhout1221 you'll go blind.
@@clydeosterhout1221
The HA1G does come with a programming cable, it’s IP67, USB & cradle charging, and LOTS more, solid radio! 😉 it’s just $70, some of you act like you’re paying for a brand new Motorola or want a MILSPEC radio for $20🙄
What no clear plastic screen cover for you to peel off?
If there is a plastic cover it's probably real thick like on the HD-1 ham version you just gotta look real close for it, it blends really well.
If you decide to upgrade the antenna on this radio, please note it is an SMA female connector on the radio unlike most of the other Chinesium radios which have an SMA male connector on the radio.
Did they finally fix the encoder on the channel knob? I have the HD1 ham radio, using the channel knob is useless because it is faulty. Twisting it either direction will cause the radio to go whatever direction it wants to.
The channel knob works perfectly.
I have both an HD1 and the HA1G and both have properly working knobs. You might have to replace your knob.
Knobs?
I like the ha1g but can it be unlocked. If not what gmrs radio has the same features and can be unlocked.
🎶 We don't talk about unlocks 🎶
Heh heh heh, you said
“my doodie”
ok I guess i'm not first for the comment. Question: Is pre-programed Narrow band or wide Band for the Ailunce HA1A?
You were first, it's just the others got to post before you. I would have been first hd I not wasted time reading the comments.
I can't get the radio to TX to my Motorola talk about t5000's... I can't receive the motos on my Ailunce.. but I can't talk to my motos from my Ailunce .. ive played with all the "privacy tones" and everything... No luck... Any ideas???
Either you have the wrong frequencies or there are receive tones set on the radio that isnt receiving.
I have the 10 watt HAM version of this radio that I can use on both HAM and GMRS.
Curious, what does it cost?
Walkie Talkie? YUK!
Ok. So at th 15:30 mark I quit listening.. It looks like no matter what. The UV 82 and (UV 9R ...IP67) rated too are still my go-to radios, and yes, Chirp compatible. Thanks for the video.
God love you I wish I had discovered you sooner. I think it’s safe to say you’re probably a Trump fan. I can see his house from mine, so it probably tells you where I live. Palm Beach doesn’t matter. I need a handheld that transmits and receives aviation frequencies and capable of doing FM frequencies and most other!! any suggestions?
Also, I would give almost anything to find out how many people actually get all your little subtle comments like your apps on your screen and other things you’re just fucking awesome.
Compared to uv5r plus your thoughts.
My thoughts are: Wait a few days for my next video for the comparison.
Ok, you are the man. I will be watching. Do the homemade repeaters connecting 2 uv5r radios really work as an expensive 5 watt repeater.
Om sure that is just a manufacturing anomaly!😅😂
You should test it inside the city around buildings and see how far it could go …I’m pretty sure no more than a mile ..
So about the same distance as every other 5w HT ever....
Pictures of nice radio I just want somebody to talk about the menu options all the different menu I need somebody to talk about the menu options on this
RTFM?
How to expand frequency
Use the VFO?
No programming cable with mine
Still have not seen anything that makes me think "I got to have that coz all my Baofeng uv-5r's can't do that".
🫳🏼
Baofeng
🫴🏼
Or the UV5X/G model
😊
Is this a superheterodyne? Asking for a friend. 😅
No.
I just need to ask the mandatory question of.... can it be unlocked for ham bands? I really don't care, I just wanted to get that out of the way.
In the NMU, there is a dimension that has the unlock option.😊
I don't have this radio yet but I did download the CPS and it allows you to input ham and business frequencies to both Tx and Rx.
That does not mean you can transmit on that frequency.
@@TheNotaRubicon I will buy it from you anyway. Rise Up always needs radios!
@@RisingTidesAC I can type CMD.exe in a terminal in MacOS too!
Is there a way to wide band it
The radio transmits on wide-band out of the box.
@TheNotaRubicon excuse me I should have stated that better. I ment out of band transmit.
@ubergeek318 yes. The search box tells us so.
I've heard that the windows 7 driver will make it work with windows 11, go figure,
Ailunce...Ocean
Super HD or SOC?
A good rule of thumb is that anything under $75-$100 is always SOC..
Seems like it is a pretty "meh" radio but thanks for the video.
Question for anyone. I live almost at the top to the town i live in. And the town next to me is lower, about 7 miles away. Would my best option be to put a repeater on my house and the 5 people in my house use handhelds jumping off that repeater? We travel to the next town and have family there. Like i say its 6 miles away line of sight. But am i mossing something saying to use a repeater? And if so will other people around me start using that repeater. The other 200 miles the other way is state land with hundreds of miles of trails. So i assume other people will be using gmsr around me. Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.
sad it doesnt do channels 8 thru 14.
Exactly! Except, it does channels 8 thru 14 just fine.
really. i thought it skipped the FRS. THX
As a UA-cam professional, such an oversight would invoke the dreaded demonetization of the all powerful algorithm. All Hail The Algorithm. Long may he keep us safe and nourished.
2 channel scanning, nice one channel for each ear.
@@christophersmith1155FRS is 22 channels for like 5 years now
