I am shocked at how quickly you found parts to every vehicle (knowledge on the rocket), as well having been to the Aurora and both islands, without so much as building the smallest of bases and having next to no storage and a full inventory for most of your run. So interesting. That is why I love watching others play this game. Everyone's path is so different from one person to the next.
I don't know you, part 1 was my first watch. I was ☹ to hear at the end that wasn't your normal drip and you wouldn't be doing another, but here you are and you got the bucket hat! 🥳
So happy this will be a series. Just finished watching, so much fun seeing you expericing this blind! The terror of exploration combined with the relief of getting back to your home base hits like nothing else I have played.
Years ago, as a kid, I would always have a favorite youtuber to watch every upload they release as it comes out. It has been a while since I have had something like that, and here I am feeling like a kid again.
This game was in early access a long time, the devs took a lot of feedback from the players, a lot of new players would immedietly try to go straight to the Aurora cause it's the only thing you can see in the horizon from your Escape Pod, the devs tried their best to dissuade players from going there cause they didn't want to make sections of the game where you played out of the water, there was a time when players got to the Aurora they would see it was literally just a cardboard cut out object that looked like a ship from a distance instead of something you can actually walk on and explore. Eventually the devs relented and decided to make the aurora a full explorable location, the guiding principle they were following when making the game was curiosity of the unknown and they realized the players went to the aurora because they were curious about it. I'm fully convinced things like the radiation and the reaper are still leftovers from that time when they tried to keep us away from the Aurora, and there's a lore reason why the reaper is there, you just have to scan it to ind out.
New subscriber here. I discovered you from the first playthrough of subnautica. I like how you are authentic and are showing us a real non exaggerated experience of a first time playthrough. Subnautica is 100% one of those games I wish I could experience as a newbie all over again. I really hope you continue this series
Little tip: You still have the light oxygen tank in your inventory wasting space as it doesn't stack with your already equipped high-capacity tank. :) Also: Feel free to wear your rebreather from now on, as opposed to your radiation helmet, since you've already taken care of the radiation. :)
A good tip in general is to mostly empty your inventory before going on any long expeditions or exploring. Just take the necessary stuff like food/water/tools and maybe medkits. You'll often find valuables and want to pick up as many of them as you can.
An often missed mechanic is that spare tanks in your inventory actually keep their oxygen in them so you can extend your swim range at the cost of inventory space by swapping tanks every time your equipped one empties. It's not usually worth using up the inventory space to do this, but it is an option that exists and is worth being aware of.
@@Toksyuryeloh wow I actually didn’t know this. I’ll definitely use this before I eventually get a better tank since I only have the ultra high capacity rn thanks 🙏🙏
@@Toksyuryel Carrying spare air tanks is a little risky. You have to be wearing an air tank to refill it. It's very easy to discover your spare tank has no air when you need it the most.
I get severe ptsd every time I hear a reaper roar, I get overwhelmed jn a state of panic and instantly go into a seizure and require immediate medical attention
@@matiasgago When I played the game, reapers gave me anxiety attacks. I had to constantly remind myself that it's just a game and my life will go on the same way, whether the reaper gets me or not. What really helped against it were two things: 1) the defensive module on the Seamoth, 2) Killing a reaper. Once you killed one, they become less terrifying. You can also tame them by feeding them fish, but I only did that after finishing the game. It's also just a gag and not very useful, because even if it won't attack you anymore, it will keep attacking your vehicle...
@@DMSG1981 Yea I experimented with making a scanner room near the Reapers and set it to scan for Reapers - you can see where they are at all times (with the scanner hud chip). Though I didn't spend much time in any reaper area for it to really be worth the trouble - it's still a nice option to have if you're having extreme anxiety.
The roar on the Reaper Leviathan reminds me of the horrifying sound that "Spot" would make, the creature that lived under the staircase in the 60's TV show "The Munsters". I was a little kid and that roar was too much for me at the age of four.
I'm having a fantastic time watching you play Subnautica! My only issue is that the videos end eventually. There is something thrilling and terrifying about playing this game. You feel your instincts at war; there is something screaming in you to go no deeper, to not venture further into the vast open waters that seem to stretch endless, to not squeeze deeper into that cave ... but curiosity nudges you forward, and it's it just terrifying what a slave we are to curiosity? It's heartbreaking to have your first log from Bart be his final, and then gradually get to know this bright, sweet, dead young man. I really felt that ❤

I recommend planting the lantern trees! Even tho they say it's low nuttition, I find it more useful because the other things have to be cut and planted again, you don't have to cut the lantern tree. You only pick up the fruit.
The rebreather is a must at this point, it'll let you stay under 100m depths without losing air faster. Since you fixed the radiation, you no longer have to wear the radiation helmet.
one of my favourite youtubers playing one of my favourite games. Thanks for continuing the series Mati, you're definitely going to have a lot of fun in this game 😉 and btw - do NOT open the wiki or see any guides; they are filled with spoilers (the game is best played completely blind). just take spoiler-free tips from someone who has played the game before for any guidance
Just a heads up, there is one room in the Aurora that you haven't gotten to yet. There are two ways to get to it, either use a Propulsion Cannon on that hallway next to where you first got out of your Seamoth after dodging the Reaper, or from the PRAWN Bay, inside the water. The second way is basically a maze, but you won't actually drown, unless of course you actively try to. Also, that Storage Upgrade you got, it can be put into your Seamoth, so you can have some extra space. What I normally do is put the essentials in it, like medkits, food, and water.
Trust me bro, what you've seen so far is still only a *drop in the ocean* compared to what's out there. I'm *shore* you're gonna have a *whale* of a time. I'll *sea* myself out... Edit: That means YES to an episode 3 btw. And 4, and 5... ☺️🙏
Just finished watching episode 17 of your DS1 playlist. I watch all the Dark Souls content several times a year. I may need professional help, Mati. But I'm really enjoying this Subnautica content. It's a game I couldn't get into playing myself, but mix in your personality and commentary and it's like a whole different game.
@matiasgago I understand. I like to look at water. Oceans, Lakes, rivers. From the land. Pictures are better.🙂 It doesn't really bother me in games, fortunately.
Know it’s weird but I’m more afraid of the ocean above water which is why quit surfing. Took up scuba and that changed. Probably because I could actually see what was in the water.
Oh boy I saw the Reaper Leviathan in the thumbnail and I know this is gonna be a doozy lol. Mati, I also wanted to say that the fact you saw the Sunbeam get shot down in episode 1 is hilarious. Never seen someone make that much progress so fast lol.

One thing that may help is that the creature by the aroura which is a Reaper Leviathan, moves kind of like a train, it is fast when moving in straight lines but it strugles to turn, that is how You can get away from one should You need to.
This is one my favorite games ever cause horror games had gotten so repetitive that they aren't event remotely scary anymore and then this game came along and showed me I could still feel true terror.
I'm not an underwater welder, but both my dad and gramps are deep sea divers who did among a ton of other tasks, underwater welding. I used to have quite alot of respect for their line of work through their stories I got told throughout the years, but after playing this game it grew even more :p the absolute horror of encountering some of the creatures in this game is like nothing ive played before.

Definitely want episode 3! It's weird to think of this game as a classic that I grew up with, because it's the LAST game I grew up with really, but I was there following it when it was being made and watching all the youtubers play it through the beta's, and I played and completed it for the first time when the full game came out. Recently platinumed it on PS5, and I loved every second! One of my favourite games ever, for how beautiful, eerie, and enthralling it is.
Hey Mati! I'm so happy to see you're loving Subnautica!! It is a beautiful experience. Just some information for you, in the Aurora crash site you went through the Prawn suit bay, but you missed the 4th prawn suit fragment, if you go back and scan it you can get yourself a prawn suit :D

First time commenting here, and a subscriber for a few months since 2024, been watching since the Ragnarok playthroughs! Just wanted to say I absolutely adore the game, and couldn’t be happier seeing another creator I enjoy watching being traumatized by the game, it’s a one of a kind and it’s absolutely horrifying at the start. (I couldn’t even be bothered with exploring other biomes first.) I hope you continue to enjoy Subnautica and all of it’s beauty and horror! (PS: If you ever make your own habitat, get a lotta power :D)
Using the PDA pause thing is definitely not cheating! I’d say we all do it! It just makes things more convenient! Simply being able to look through our pda and not worry about our food, water, or oxygen going down is nice. This feature was added after subnautica below zero came out since it was a feature in that game first.
I'm so glad this is becoming a series. Even tho the reaper and the roar scares me as much as the ocean does lol. I hope you have as much fun with this series as I have.
Usually silent viewer here. Absolutely love to see you play this gem! And you're right it's tough to play sometimes, I got thalassophobia and played the whole thing. Had a couple heart attacks but it's worth it, this game is fun as hell so I get you very much ^^" Wishing you good luck!
I actually love that you genuinely are exploring and finding materials and stuff because it’s so common for people (me included) to get stuck in games like this because sometimes we just aren’t curious enough 😭🙏🙏 scanning literally everything is a great habit in this game and most, myself included, decide not to scan certain things and miss stuff 😭😭 like I’m sure there’s been many times where I was too lazy to scan some random plant or something and i didn’t get a certain crafting recipe. Idk, I just like how u play the game compared to how creators usually play💗💗
the radio message for the captains quarters is from the guys at NeebsGaming, they did an early playthrough of the game in a funny way and helped bring attention to Subnautica saving it from potential bankruptcy. Similarly Jacksepticeye has a reference in the coffee machine, and Markiplier has his own bobblehead in game.
I'll be honest I didn't think I'd want to watch a subnautica playthro due to it being played so much lols. But you make it funny as hell again lols. With the sea moth and stuff definitely use it to explore as well cuz when you go deep your O2 gets worse so you use the sea moth/cyclops to restore your o2 when deep so you don't have to surface 😉 good luck bro I can't wait to see more
You can scan the Reaper Leviathan, its lore contains an absolutely terrifying blurb that is worth the hassle and makes you realize it is far more upsetting of a creature than you currently imagine. Or you can just look it up online, or someone can spoil it in the comments.
This is helpful thank you🙏🙏 I was thinking abt scanning a reaper but i got too scared and didn’t think there’d be much of a purpose to do it so I just didn’t 😭😭
Building your first base right near your pod is perfectly fine (I always do). You can always build more bases elsewhere (and probably will). Hint: Find the "scanner room" and "moon pool" blueprints. These base rooms are extremely helpful.
It’s good to see how quick Mati understood the quarantine, the gun, the stabby thing and the self scan - have seen so many people not get why both ships were shot down
Found your page by the dark souls series, and stayed for your personality. Definitely became one of my favorite youtubers, probably watch your videos more than any show😂 so keep up the good work!🫶🏻
Just subscribed! You seem like a cool dude and I love watching people play Subnautica for the first time! It's such a beautiful yet terrifying game haha. Excited to see your reaction to the story, and glad you're enjoying it :) And for what it's worth, I don't think PDA pause is cheating at all! The game offers it as an option, after all. It's really helpful for reading PDA entries, which can be really important.
This game made me very Anxious also, i was terrified the entire time but that was part of the experience and that is why i love the game so much, no other game has made me feel like this game did. Very happy this is continuing, I hope you enjoy. One of my fave unexpected gaming experiences
This is one of my favorite games of all time. I’ve been watching your channel since the Shadow of the Colossus videos, you’ve covered many of my favorite games!
Knowing how Mati gets jump scares all the time, I'm surprised he only has a little knife to defend himself. Those big alien fish look like they could crush the hull of Mati's sub.
Fantastic content man, love how much you engage with what you're playing. It's infectious, keep it up. One tip for ya - in your previous video (I forgot to comment) you mentioned struggling with the whole aim then move thumb to grab thing while lining up the little fishies. I highly recommend modding your controller with some back buttons, wayyy cheaper than a fancy controller and very easy to do. It does require some disassembly/assembly, but no soldering unless you want to be able to map something weird like touchpad-click to them. Makes gaming way smoother, and therefore content will look even smoother too 👍 (already great to watch though)
Very cool game, love your editing, the overall pace and structure of this episode, the retro futuristic sound design and all that. And I think your personality matches this game pretty well. love seeing you having fun, that makes me feel fun. love love love
And Mati continues to have the typical first-time Subnautica experience: Bonking the seamoth on rocks, getting pissed off at spider crab things, and getting the ever-loving shit scared out of him by the Reaper. Looking forward to future trauma. Edit: the Reaper-to-Warper jumpscare was hilarious.
The explorer in me was so satisfied watching you do what I would. I always end up asking: "What's that?.....Let me see." And before I know it I've spent most of my time exploring and collecting!
It's always great to see someone experiencing this game for the first time without knowing anything about it. I've seen the playthough from a lot of well known UA-camrs, but Mati, your play through of this game is quite refreshing and I'm enjoying the ride with you. You're doing pretty good as far as I can tell. Base building will be a lot of fun. In my playthrough, I didn't finish the game, but I had a base at different locations. Be VERY careful when exploring the underwater wreckage, I've died a few times getting lost in them. It really sucks. Probably a good idea to save before doing anything risky.
the reaper, nobody forget the first time they meet the reaper, when the sea don't feel so safe anymore...who know what else might be there. But super happy to see more, it's kinda nice and chill compared to your usual game well like for viewer with the sound of the ocean and evertyhing... I do like feel tense when i notice how close you came to losing your vehicle xD you don't even know xD multible time, for a home base find a place that make you feel good you will need it when you will go back home terrified and tired xD beside you might also craft small base deeper into the sea in the future so don't stress it too much and you can deconstruct every thing in your base without losing material so you can move or take back anything you use to make a base.
You left a PDA in that upside down Lifepod 4. Don't forget it! By the way, when you go to any Lifepods, look around and you'll find other PDAs lying around them as well. I'm so glad you continue this game. Enjoy!
44:30 Natural Selection 2 is actually a game the same developers made before Subnautica. It's an asymmetrical multiplayer shooter/rts mix, which I loved playing and always thought was super underrated. I'm very glad Unknown Worlds had such a big success with Subnautica, they really deserve it. The Gorge plushie you found is a playable alien character from Natural Selection 2 btw. Enjoy your playthrough, there is no other game like it. I have looked for years and found nothing :( (expect for Below Zero obviously) Safe to say I'm beyond excited for Subnautica 2, which is hitting early access this year, but will probably take 2-3 years until the full release.
Theres actually a way to go in the electrical place in the Prawn Bay. I think you also missed the PDA in the lifepod 4. There's more to get in the proposed Degasi underwater base. This game is amazing man, keep going.
I am so glad that you are doing a playthrough of this and recording it for the first time because I know the magic (and terror ) of playing through it for the first time . W playthrough ❤

I hope you continue to enjoy Subnautica and all of it’s beauty and horror! (PS: If you ever make your own habitat, get a lotta power :D)
MAKE THIS A FULL SERIES, the creatures need to be scanned and the biomes need to be explored!!
now you see how great this game is, Cant wait for subnautica 2 this year!
That roar will stick with me forever man
@matiasgago R.I.P. Bart
Mati - You are so much fun to watch and I greatly enjoy your videos. Very excited you are finally getting around to Subnuatica. Thanks for being you.
Usually silent viewer here. Absolutely love to see you play this gem! And you're right it's tough to play sometimes, I got thalassophobia and played the whole thing. Had a couple heart attacks but it's worth it, this game is fun as hell so I get you very much ^^"
Wishing you good luck!
You can use the propulsion canon on the seamoth if it gets stuck again
I can't stress enough how I love this series, it's like a dream come true seeing Mati freak out about the Reaper Leviathan
This has been such a fun playthrough to watch :)
Appreciate you coming back boss
THE TERROR CONTINUES 🔥🔥
Yes indeed
@ 8:01
Mati: "There is literally nothing in this wreckage."
Also Mati: *scanner icon pops up*
Much classic. So Mati.
LETS GOOOO! Glad u continuing. Hoping for a series!
Keep up the great work Mati ❤
Thank you bro will do 👊🏽
I’m so glad you’re making this a series! Such a fun game and so much more to explore and many larger creatures to see 😅
One of the best first reaper encounters I've seen this playthrough is awesome so far!
Started Subnautica a week ago and i was so lost but when i watched your videos im so addicted to it now 🔥
Me too
That was a great episode, cant wait for more!
I love that Neebs gaming cameo in the recording of altera HQ :)
Thank you so much for continuing this
I gotchu
I'll be honest I didn't think I'd want to watch a subnautica playthro due to it being played so much lols. But you make it funny as hell again lols. With the sea moth and stuff definitely use it to explore as well cuz when you go deep your O2 gets worse so you use the sea moth/cyclops to restore your o2 when deep so you don't have to surface 😉 good luck bro I can't wait to see more
Always carry the repair tool, scanner, laser cutter, seaglide, and knife. Most essential tools in the game
You can scan the Reaper Leviathan, its lore contains an absolutely terrifying blurb that is worth the hassle and makes you realize it is far more upsetting of a creature than you currently imagine.
Or you can just look it up online, or someone can spoil it in the comments.
Thanks, GAVIN.
I prefer the description for the Mesmer. 😂 Come closer....😮
Excited to see your reaction to the story, and glad you're enjoying it :)
And for what it's worth, I don't think PDA pause is cheating at all!
I'm so happy to see a second episode
This is one of my favorite games of all time. I’ve been watching your channel since the Shadow of the Colossus videos, you’ve covered many of my favorite games!
I started playing in the first half of last year, so this is the first time I get to watch someone play in semi-real time!
Hell yeah!
Inventory management has never been his strong suit lol
Keep this going mati , loving it. Good switch up on the channel. Games story goes deep
this 1h30min episode flew by! was gonna just watch the beginning, but now it's nearing 3am and I watched it fully. great video, man.
Mati continue it cause the more you play the greater becomes! is among the best survival games!
the reaper, nobody forget the first time they meet the reaper, when the sea don't feel so safe anymore...who know what else might be there.
Having so many laughs this episode! love it lol
You left a PDA in that upside down Lifepod 4. Don't forget it! By the way, when you go to any Lifepods, look around and you'll find other PDAs lying around them as well. I'm so glad you continue this game. Enjoy!
10/10 singing at the beginning.
Knew someone would appreciate my nervous singing
This is riveting to watch. Looking forward to the next one.
1:17:50 You banged into it with the Seamoth.
Using the propulsion cannon to yeet the cave crabs into the see is one of the most satisfying thing you can do in Subnautica !
So glad to see more Subnautica from you
Hope you enjoy the nightmares of this game
Did not think you were gonna continue, glad you did. GL HF!🤘
After a long shit day it’s awesome to come home and see a subnautica video from the main man himself
41:52 I love how mati drops 2 fire extinguishers then later sayys that he found a lot of fire extinquishers
44:30
Natural Selection 2 is actually a game the same developers made before Subnautica.
I have looked for years and found nothing :( (expect for Below Zero obviously)
Safe to say I'm beyond excited for Subnautica 2, which is hitting early access this year, but will probably take 2-3 years until the full release.
Theres actually a way to go in the electrical place in the Prawn Bay. I think you also missed the PDA in the lifepod 4. There's more to get in the proposed Degasi underwater base.
This game is amazing man, keep going.
So glad to see a second episode and I can’t wait for more
Yes! You continued to play it! Honestly watching this made me want to replay this game.
Can’t wait for more! Loving the series ✌️🎃
Love to hear it chief!
1:15:30 You are in good company: My seamoth is still beached on Degassi Island. Covered in moss and vines by now I guess.
Propulsion cannon can fix that
@ Tried it. Tried everything. Sometimes you have to swim home and build a new one.
I am so glad that you are doing a playthrough of this and recording it for the first time because I know the magic (and terror ) of playing through it for the first time . W playthrough ❤
