I bowled once on wood lanes that had not been oiled in years. Use a house ball and rolled from the beginning of the take off area. Rolled across the lane from the left. Had to go to the 4th board from the right gutter before it broke back to the pocket. It was interesting! This was a Nellis AFB Aux Field back in 1979!
I'm sorry Packy that didn't look like no oil to me , that was a good lane condition in my centre ! No oil is when you put the ball on the lane and it hooks just past the arrows and if your lucky hits the corner pin .
Ocean vibe is one of my favorites. I can usually throw it from very far left(i’m right handed), throw it slower and it hooks so sharp to the pocket downlane. Great video!
My 2 sons and I have been practicing a lot lately and this past weekend our usual spot was having a wedding. We went to the next place and had out first experience with really dry lanes. We knew something was wrong. I switched to an alley ball and just went for a very straight forward approach. My youngest got frustrated and went with a super emotional approach. My oldest figured out some crazy angles that actually worked. None of us did well. I think we probably would have learned a little more if we had a higher skill level, but we had fun.
"....almost broke my ankle." This is why urethane approaches suck. (They are also knee-killers.) Rosin bags, or cancer dust (talc powder) apparently fix it some. Wood approaches that are well-maintained are best.
Hi Packy, this Lane looks pretty fine for me 😂. Here in Germany i has to be glad for such conditions. Back to Topic, i use a Storm Hit with extra long Layout for the most of the Time if its really dry.
I use the hammer raw on dry lanes, I bowled a few times at lanes where the front desk guy said they oil the lanes every Wednesdays. I practice on tuesdays. It performed perfectly.
From my understanding, wouldn’t flare be mostly affected by pulling weight near the pin? For balls intended to work high friction, low flaring drills sound like a rather logical solution. On the other side, for anyone with a lesser refined release, getting that close to 0 intermediate diff with a symmetric ball is likely to give inconsistent ball reaction. Just my 2 cents
I use the only ball I have a Chicago cubs ball assume it’s plastic tough to control on dry lanes for me I have no approach I stand at line and throw cause my left side is paralyzed can’t figure out a good ball to buy and use
Where I bowl (Bury St Edmunds, UK) they only dress the lanes for the Wednesday night league. When I bowl other times I use a Hustle Wine or, if it's really dry, I use a DV8 Zombie and try to bowl as straight as I can!
I bowled to the driest lane last night, the Gem, even when it was strong and pin down, did ok but i was surprised with the result i had more issues on the floor not letting me slide and almost tripped, need new shoes lol
I love my sneak attack! I got about 20 or so games on it and it still rolls great! I use it at the end of league or if I’m playing against a lot of high rev players around game 2.
i mean i dont really have a choice since i only own 3 balls so i try to see which one moves the best down lane and then i choose either the hammer diesel heavy duty or the black widow ghost
Dude i’m constantly throwing my tropical surge at league and anytime i go to a new bowling alley i also has a raw hammer for when the lane is definitely more oiled.
Packy I have a Radical Bonu$ Pearl that's going on two years old, my question to you is if you don't mind. What is the difference between this Sneak Attack and the Bonu$ Pearl? Just to see if there is any difference. Then you bring out this Purple Hammer reactive That I really liked but then there is Radical's Rattler. Dilemma dilemma. Thanks and keep up the good stuff.
For dry lanes, I have A Hustle Wine and a Tropical Storm, both are great on the dryer lanes, but don't discount them, they will indeed grab and suddenly take off on you. I have a Hammer Ocean Vibe (new version), and it's not the greatest on super dry, but it will get job done with some effort if I do my part. We seem to have good oil, ludicrous oil, or Sahara desert dry lanes.
The original tropical storm was ridiculously good. I'd rather got one as his first ball and it was always great reaction. I got a tropical breeze later as a low oil ball and it was nowhere near the same, although I've heard the surge is better.
I generally drop right down to my Spy once they start drying up, I don’t get enough speed on the ball to throw reactive if they’re dry and be able to control it.
I usually use The Motiv Pride Solid for really awful dead zone spots when my center doesnt oil the lanes (which is usually on cosmic weekends, and then during the day before league nights), and the Storm Crux Prime to really blend the reaction down.
For me it is the ebi magenta urethane hammer from overseas with 360 grit , a Geico viza ball ( that you would see the pros use on tv for their spares in 2004-2007) , the ebi black hammer urethane,
So isn't it primarily about the differential of the ball? Meaning the lower the diff the less the hook, the less the hook the better for playing dryer conditions.
League night is usually a light volume, and about 30'-32'. Everything hooks too much except my spare ball. Im still looking for something that can be reasonable to use.
hey man you should be more detailed with this question, what do you mean by opinion, what he likes/dislikes? just a guess but as a 2 handed lefty id guess he likes shorter patterns with the purple hammer because he can keep the ball infront of him and play an easier shape. and since hes left handed if it starts easy it will remain easy for most of the day. but if its a challenging pattern he could dislike it. really just depends.
For dry lanes i typically use an ebonite crush/r or a ten year old (very worn out) hy-road. Or worst comes to worst il use grandpas old rubber ball (brunswick all star i believe)
I just started bowling In leagues and I am adjusting to the change of having fresh oil out there because when I would bowl on my free time they would usually be dryer lanes. What would be the best ball for me to use. I am also a right two handed bowler.
i use a ball that everyone can use it is so populer that nearly every bowler uses it before getting their first ball. It is ofcourse the 12 pound house ball :)
Using professional bowling terms to describe what you are doing is really making sense to me!!! I'm moving 2 & 1 along with other terms in pro lingo doesn't make sense to a once a week league bowler like me!!!!

wood lanes are tough even when oiled.
@@dustyc324 they r only tough if they aren’t being taken care of (in my opinion.)
@@Skdjdjdjsjxjxjdyeah I think so too
I recently bought a track tempo for dry lanes. Been bowling a league at Seneca bowl and they have been relentlessly dry lately. Works like a charm.
I'm sorry Packy that didn't look like no oil to me , that was a good lane condition in my centre ! No oil is when you put the ball on the lane and it hooks just past the arrows and if your lucky hits the corner pin .
Haha so true! My centre in the UK is awful, they might oil the lanes once every few weeks. Dry is standard!
This isn’t a video of me bowling on no oil but more demonstrating what you can do to combat some low volume oil conditions 😁
@@TheHouseBowlingThese aren’t dry lanes. Just lighter volume of oil. 42 feet is still pretty long.
Reminds me of my no oil center… The only time I hit a pin was throwing with my spare ball at the 10… I hit the 7, barely…
Uk lanes are mostly terrible, there are a few around that actually oil lanes
Ocean vibe is one of my favorites. I can usually throw it from very far left(i’m right handed), throw it slower and it hooks so sharp to the pocket downlane. Great video!

For dry lanes my favorite is my Hustle Wine. Have a long angle layout on it and I absolutely love it. 🤘....

You can also just drill up a short pin symmetrical solid to control friction and/or transition. The new purple hammer reactive is perfect for it.
I use the hammer raw on dry lanes, I bowled a few times at lanes where the front desk guy said they oil the lanes every Wednesdays. I practice on tuesdays. It performed perfectly.
I like using the Hustle Camo for dry lanes
Brunswick Twist, Motiv Top Thrill, Hammer Black Widow VIZ-A-BALL are all good dry balls
you have pin just above bridge ,without the thumb hole the psa is right near pin ,migration path can go above or below, makes for random reaction ?.

Thanks Packy! My league shot is always dry with not much of a crown in the middle. Some days my vis-a-ball is all I can hold the right side with. :-)
I use the only ball I have a Chicago cubs ball assume it’s plastic tough to control on dry lanes for me I have no approach I stand at line and throw cause my left side is paralyzed can’t figure out a good ball to buy and use
For dry lanes I use a Rhino Pearl. It's always let me keep my scores high
Storm Tropical, Columbia Beast and Track Tundra
Where I bowl (Bury St Edmunds, UK) they only dress the lanes for the Wednesday night league. When I bowl other times I use a Hustle Wine or, if it's really dry, I use a DV8 Zombie and try to bowl as straight as I can!
Sheesh! That’s tough! I’m sure it’s a fun challenge though!
Burybowl?
My Counter Attack pearl and Rhino are my go to balls, when they're dry.
I bowled to the driest lane last night, the Gem, even when it was strong and pin down, did ok but i was surprised with the result i had more issues on the floor not letting me slide and almost tripped, need new shoes lol
I use a storm lights out. I used to throw an ebonite destiny solid, but it started to crack so I’ll be replacing it with a hammer dark web.
I use my Black Widow plastic ball for dry lanes.....it is amazing for game 3 during league play.
That ball is a beast!
I have an ocean vibe for dry.. good choice
Just tell the operator to oil their lane. 😆 🤣
I love my sneak attack! I got about 20 or so games on it and it still rolls great! I use it at the end of league or if I’m playing against a lot of high rev players around game 2.
Best ball review I have seen you do yet!
I use Radical's "The Spy". Plastic Coverstock with a real weight core.
I do have a 300 with that ball 👀👀
@@TheHouseBowling I’m not surprised. 😎
First! Love the content!
Cool video talk tech bowling bowling balls for dry lanes the house bowling packy
Love my Roto Grip Winner on the dry stuff
Not recommending urethane for dry conditions? Been looking for a weaker ball to complement my Radical Katana
Rhino Pearl for Dry Lanes.
I like the Columbia 300 the beast purple sparkle
Black Widow Viz-A-Ball and the old Columbia Jazz are the two best dry lane balls.
So is the tank I have I’ve got the reactive version with a two inc drill away from the pin for left hangers pins also up on the ball
For dryer lanes I have a hammer raw black that allows me to play a little straighter with more control on the front half
Another great ball I used that one for a while before getting my purple hammer reactive :)
I have and love my sneak attack on mid to dry conditions and I'm a no thumb one hander
Desert Tank (MCP coverstock (urethane+))
1. Columbia 300 Eruption Pro Hybrid
2. Hammer Nail Smoke and Fire
3. Track Heat Lava
i mean i dont really have a choice since i only own 3 balls so i try to see which one moves the best down lane and then i choose either the hammer diesel heavy duty or the black widow ghost
Dude i’m constantly throwing my tropical surge at league and anytime i go to a new bowling alley i also has a raw hammer for when the lane is definitely more oiled.
is your reactive at box? or did you change the surface?
Any ball recommendations i jus started bowling this year for my school?
Bonus Pearl. Raw Hammer Pearl. Orange Vibe (pin down).
Edit: Purple Reactive too. It’s stupid good (source: have one already).
My ocean vibe is a beast on burnt lanes!

Storm Mix White
Can you post layout on each ball?

In Australia our lanes are 5 times drier then what your bowling on. Even my storm plastic drilled not to hook , HOOKS
I either throw between my hustle camo and obsession tour
I generally drop right down to my Spy once they start drying up, I don’t get enough speed on the ball to throw reactive if they’re dry and be able to control it.
My dad's 1986 faball Red Hammer

I use a Hammer Raw on our house shot. Damn good ball for 100$.
That was that very first ball I bought and I still love it to this day!
Currently using the Raw Solid but really contemplating that new Purple..
Question for you how would you compare the Purple Reactive to the Counter Attack solid.
Sneak Attack is sneaky good!
Roll the beast when the lanes are dryer than my girl after explaining oil patterns
For dry condition I use Urethane Turbo C or plastic ball Ebonite Maxim!!
For dry lanes, i use altered reality, also 2handed
Are you also putting weaker, like pin down layouts on these as well?
“pin down” for a two handed bowler yes!
@@TheHouseBowling only pin up for the flatter stuff?
@@airammitchell682 pin up when I need my ball to hook a little earlier on some of those heavier oil conditions!
Still absolutely love my Spy for higher friction/ dry lanes
So isn't it primarily about the differential of the ball? Meaning the lower the diff the less the hook, the less the hook the better for playing dryer conditions.
League night is usually a light volume, and about 30'-32'. Everything hooks too much except my spare ball. Im still looking for something that can be reasonable to use.
couod u try these on oil bc i need to find me a ball that goes long with any lane conditions
Just brought a twist to fill the gap between my x zone and my u motion
Would you say any of these three are good for a general purpose ball? I'm more full roller and don't get much down lane from my own hook. Great vid!
For my “dry lane ball” I use my spare ball. Most definitely don’t recommend doing but I have amazing control of my spare ball 😂.
What would be your opinion on shorter patterns? (36-39 feet)
hey man you should be more detailed with this question, what do you mean by opinion, what he likes/dislikes? just a guess but as a 2 handed lefty id guess he likes shorter patterns with the purple hammer because he can keep the ball infront of him and play an easier shape. and since hes left handed if it starts easy it will remain easy for most of the day. but if its a challenging pattern he could dislike it. really just depends.
Short fresh? Urethane, then ball up to a mid-asym. All depends on what you want to see, shape-wise.
Ocean vibe is my go to low oil ball. I love the sharpness down lane as long as the length. It’s the third ball in my arsenal in my league bag.
Love that ball!
May I ask what weight you’re throwing?
I use my black widow gold or my rhino for dry lanes
Packy, what layout system do you use to drill your bowling balls? I know your pin seems to be in a non-common place (what’s normal these days ;) )
got a Spy for dry lanes...does great.
Blue Dot
Used to be a Columbia 300 Blue Dot--hard plastic ball (diamond hard, LOL!) then it was a Nail hard urethane by Hammer.
My go to ball is the white dot
League night 5 people teams and 3 high Rev guys plus the other team I'm usually going to my Track Kinetic Platinum in Game 2 lol.
For dry lanes i typically use an ebonite crush/r or a ten year old (very worn out) hy-road. Or worst comes to worst il use grandpas old rubber ball (brunswick all star i believe)

Timeless
The Motiv Hydra is one of the best dry lane balls ive ever thrown. Pin down it's a monster, I have no idea why they discontinued it.
I use a storm pitch black. (one handed with thumb)
I was told motiv thrill pearl for when lanes are dry/high friction (motiv guy here)
Brunswick Rhino & Brunswick Twist
Storm Electrify Pearl is the GOAT for dry lanes
Packy, what's your thoughts on someone bowling left handed with 2 hands but with the thumb still in?
If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it! 😁
Fast pitch, Fever pitch, and Cyborg@P5000D with Turtle Wax 5500
Bro, how are u making that squeak sound every time you approach, I wanna be able to do that

How many tournaments been won with a purple?¿??
what do the numbers mean: 2 and 1, 3 and 2?
