  • Today was one of those days that if you miss the opportunity, you’d never know about it. After waking up at 4am and not being able to get back to sleep, I thought, bugger it, got dressed, packed some gear and headed to a small river in the Victorian High Country. What ended up being a 6 hour round trip had two hours of the best trout fishing I have ever had.
At one stage I had 6-8 fish battling it out over my lure, not a foot print on the river bank, it was as if these fish have never seen a lure. While I missed many due to them not grabbing the lure or flicking off once they grabbed it, still managed some real solid models. In my opinion, their golden colour suggests that these fish are getting ready to go into full blown spawn mode in the comming weeks/months as I have never caught fish like this apart from the Eucumbene fish during their spawning run. No doubt this river has a very healthy self sustaining population of quality fish…..The river was extremely low meaning spinners with upgraded Mustad Fishing Australia Treble hooks fit best as even shallow hard bodies were getting fowled up on the gravel/debris. Looking forward to heading back and exploring more of what this place has to offer.
