  • When you have intricate cut outs that you are planning on decoupaging, this is the easiest method for getting rid of the excess paper. Be careful though, as it often decides to burn in two directions (yeah, makes sense but I could have done with this warning before I started!!) but it was sooooo much faster and easier this way!

The napkins I used were from Fortinos and the cutouts from the dollar store

Fantastic! Can’t wait to try this one. Was very relieved that you got a barbecue lighter…was holding my breath as you were burning things right over the match box!

I did find these at two different dollar stores I think... Dollarama and Dollar Tree so yeah... you'd need a little more variety. Downside of a small town - but balances with the upside!

Loved your video. I’m not super artistic, but this looks like fun and is very impressive. Loved you calm demeanor. I’m going to try this for sure.🙂

Hey Bruce... no artistry required! Just a certain comfort with a little flame!

What if you can't get the paper napkin apart I really love the flower pattern can you still use this method?

Any time you are decoupaging a napkin you need to separate the layers. Otherwise you risk the top layer 'lifting' off the piece. It can be tricky on some napkins, especially those that have those perforated edges holding the layers together. I find it easiest to slightly 'tear' one edge... so that it's a rough, uneven edge... and tease the layers apart there. Sometimes the smoothly cut edge seems to help bind the layers together.

What kind of white wax was that that you rubbed on?

I used the white wax from DIY because that's what I carry in my shop but for this project you could get away with any brand really.

I love your channel but...I can't help but feel that this is really unsafe.

Hey Jade! Definitely not a kid-friendly craft! I do think people's comfort with fire varies. The flame on the decoupaged pieces only burns to where the medium is so there isn't a lot of flame... I left a little more 'loose' napkin around the edges that normally just so it was a little more visible to the camera. If you cut it off closer there is less to burn. That all said... there is a definite discomfort of many for fire (I have friends that won't even light a match) so certainly not a method to use for them! Thanks for the positive words about the channel... hopefully other videos are more inspiring to you!
