Tyreek would most definitely lose to Lyles right now. Though I will say this. Tyreek hill in high school ran times comparable or better than what some of top sprinters today ran at the same ages. And his form was pretty bad. I think if Tyreek had pursued track he would’ve had crazy potential
I think Noah should take him up on this for one simple reason. He's doing everything he can to build up the sport of Track and Field and some big promoted race between them might turn on a lot of people to what Noah does. It's called adrenaline. Noah was pumping himself up. Not sure what your athletlic background is, but running 200m with every ounce of energy in your body is going to be a lot different than pumping yourself up before a race starts.

That's why he lost. 1 he thought he won before he even ran the prerace interview saying that the athletes will be depressed coming off the turn really dictates that. And 2- the amount of energy he wasted there was nothing left in the tank with 80m to go.... I highly doubt his antics will ever be repeated.... The race is equal before the gun goes off as anything can go. So hopefully its a learning experience for him

TH is one of the best WRs I’ve seen in 40+ years of watching the NFL. You did a disservice in not acknowledging Noah’s potential in a 40 yard dash. We know him for have a relatively slow start. And Coleman ran 4.13 and we know him for his massive separation at the start. Can Noah run faster than Tyreke in the 40 yard dash? Can he run faster than 4.25, in a feat that measures acceleration on turf?

Most people don't understand how much distance there is between 9.8 and 9.9 in a 100m dash. I was talking to a guy who runs and genuinely thought it takes 30s to run 100m and I said: "you can probably do it in 14s-15s" and he asked me how fast I was and I said that I can probably do slightly below 12s and then he asked me how fast was the world record and I told him 9.58 and he said "bro, you're seriously running almost as fast as Bolt?" to which I replied: WTF are you talking about?" Ahah. People who do not understand athletics will think 1s is not that much and people who do understand it at a superficial level will still think 0.1 is not that much.
I predicted that Noah Lyles would win the Olympics in 9.80. Just about right. The difference between that and the Reeksters 10.19 is substantial. But he WAS a good 200m man.

I really wish I could remember the numbers exactly but I feel like in PE I once did 16 seconds on grass, barefoot and finished somewhere behind someone that did 11 seconds. I very rarely felt that slow in a sprint back in school. The difference was just mind blowing. As I say, I wish I could remember the time because 16s just sounds pathetic. I probably flatter myself but maybe that was on off day. I'm pretty sure earlier that year I'd been much closer to the same guy. I may have just watched this race though. So, the way I remember it is a bunch of the "fast guys" all decided they wanted to race each other in the heats and because it was a low key within school thing, that was easily arranged. I wasn't one of them but I ended up in the same heat (or, maybe the one before), on an outer lane. I lost, right, but that time I felt, "Yeah, I can take these guys -- I just needed more distance; I'll be back for the 200m". As I recall, they didn't decide to all pile into the same heat in the 200 because these weren't timed heats -- only the top however many advanced so their "let's all race in the heats" plan just eliminated a bunch of them (and they really were, broadly speaking, legitimate contenders for "the fastest guy in school"). How did I do in my 200m heat? Well, I must've lost because I was, and alas still am, very unfit and was completely gassed by 150m (if not before). I don't remember losing, though. What I remember from that race is running out of puff (again, extremely unfit) and thinking, "Damn, I guess 150m is my distance". And those are the last three track races I remember participating in. There's probably at least one more that happened (in PE the following year) but I don't remember how I did, I just remember watching a friend of mine run and then going up to her and saying "You're actually quite fast" to which she said either "I know" or "Everyone's always surprised".

I'm a Miami Dolphins fan and I really enjoy the way Tyreek plays, but I flinched when he said he could beat Noah Lyles. That being said, if he trained for it and shed some of the football weight, I think Tyreek might have an outside shot in the 60m.
As referenced in the video, there have been a plethora of NFLers that could have been Olympic caliber sprinters had they focused on track instead of football: - *Footballers that are former sprinters carry substantially more weight due to football and lack the speed maintenance due to their training for shorter football bursts* as opposed to 60m, 100m, or 200m speed maintenance. -Tyreek Hill is *barefoot, 5' 8 1/8", 185-190 pounds* So he is essentially, 5'8" and would weigh in the 160-170 range if he were exclusively a sprinter. Meaning, his speed would be different than what it is today. -Curtis Dickey (215 pounds), Herschel Walker (225-230 pounds), and Bo Jackson (225-230 pounds) were elite high school sprinters. Dickey and Walker were actually elite college sprinters while Bo only ran 10.3x in college but that was due to playing football and baseball and running track with no practice. Dude was 10.3x at 225-230 pounds without even training. Drop 40-45 pounds and let Bo train exclusively for the 60m, 100m, 200m. I could list 20 former NFL players that had Olympic potential if they only ran track. *Darrell Green* definitely comes to mind.

Hill hit his peak in track right after high school. He’s a football guy who is really fast. Unlike a track guy who tries to play football. You can always tell because they have no lateral mobility and can’t turn their hips. They only have linear speed. Another thing to consider is size. Hill is too big. To run sub 9.8 he would have to lose 20+ pounds. Not happening. And look at his form and how tense he was when he ran track. He was grinding it out. Very tense. Which goes back to my point about him hitting his peak. Speed at the Olympic level is very efficient. All in all I’m take that bet on Lyles any day of the week!
I think this kind of thing should be encouraged. Let’s see people across all kinds of sports go up against Olympic sprinters. Let’s see women, who think they can win against high school champions, get humbled. I’m 54 and people my age+ will remember ABC’s Wide World of Sports, used to do this kind of thing. Fun stuff and really shows the ability of various athletic abilities at the extreme end. I also believe Lyles loses in the World Championships, next month in Japan.

Tyreek would most definitely lose to Lyles right now. Though I will say this. Tyreek hill in high school ran times comparable or better than what some of top sprinters today ran at the same ages. And his form was pretty bad. I think if Tyreek had pursued track he would’ve had crazy potential
I once saw Rocket Ismail race in the 100m during Penn Relays. He was winning for about 40m then EVERYONE passed him! Track is different.
I was in the stands that day in Philly. They passed Rocket like he was taking a Sunday stroll in the park.
I think Noah should take him up on this for one simple reason. He's doing everything he can to build up the sport of Track and Field and some big promoted race between them might turn on a lot of people to what Noah does. I don't think he has ANYthing to prove mind you...just think it might be smart on his part to do it.

Yes I get the point of him saying due to it being NBA doesn't qualify the championship to be a world champion. It is the premier league and international players come there to play then in a way it can be seen as a world championship now. Before I would say no but now you could make an argument for it.
You can definitely discredit it as well and say only those who win the FIBA World Cup or Olympics are world champions as well since they actually face other countries. As for Noah wanting a shoe, he wouldn't sell as much unless he creates an every day running shoe that is designed properly and marketed properly.
But after listening to his design elements, I don't know how well they'd sell. He talked about a red and black colour scheme. Or a gold and white colour scheme. That could be doable. Probably would sell more red and black than white and gold if comes to every day use.
Then he said he wants a stylish shoe that is multi colored but it would also be heavy, I don't know who would be lining up to buy those. What he should do is just make sketches, put them out there and see how the public gravitates so he can better understand his potential market. He just thinks they'll sell as soon as he puts them out there because he "Noah Lyles" and that simply won't happen just like that.
He does have personality but unfortunately sprints are not as popular all year round like Basketball or even soccer. If it doesn't make sense for Adidas to make money off him, he won't get his own shoe. He hasn't even come close to breaking world records so there is that. Bolt and Johnson earned their shoes. They had the records to back them up.
Just being a world champion and one time Olympic champion isn't enough. Heck if Simone Biles can't even get her own gear and she is multiple times Olympic and World Champion then what does Noah think he can get?

It's called adrenaline. Noah was pumping himself up. Not sure what your athletlic background is, but running 200m with every ounce of energy in your body is going to be a lot different than pumping yourself up before a race starts.

That's why he lost. 1 he thought he won before he even ran the prerace interview saying that the athletes will be depressed coming off the turn really dictates that. And 2- the amount of energy he wasted there was nothing left in the tank with 80m to go.... I highly doubt his antics will ever be repeated.... The race is equal before the gun goes off as anything can go. So hopefully its a learning experience for him

TH is one of the best WRs I’ve seen in 40+ years of watching the NFL. That being said, he’s just talking smack like Lyles does and comparing NL to Tobogo concerning brashness, Americans (I am one) are more likely than athletes from other nations, in my experience, it’s just part of the optimism that DAS glowingly spoke about.

You did a disservice in not acknowledging Noah’s potential in a 40 yard dash. We know him for have a relatively slow start. And Coleman ran 4.13 and we know him for his massive separation at the start. Can Noah run faster than Tyreke in the 40 yard dash? Can he run faster than 4.25, in a feat that measures acceleration on turf?
If Tyreek had quit football after high school and focused strictly on track, maybe he’d make a world/olympic final. But right now, he’s not breaking 10.2

I think if Tyreek focused on pure straight line sprinting speed, he could definitely be competitive. It's closer than people give him credit for. I'm not saying he could beat Noah, but he could get close.
Most people don't understand how much distance there is between 9.8 and 9.9 in a 100m dash.
I was talking to a guy who runs and genuinely thought it takes 30s to run 100m and I said: "you can probably do it in 14s-15s" and he asked me how fast I was and I said that I can probably do slightly below 12s and then he asked me how fast was the world record and I told him 9.58 and he said "bro, you're seriously running almost as fast as Bolt?" to which I replied: WTF are you talking about?" Ahah.
People who do not understand athletics will think 1s is not that much and people who do understand it at a superficial level will still think 0.1 is not that much.
I predicted that Noah Lyles would win the Olympics in 9.80. Just about right. The difference between that and the Reeksters 10.19 is substantial. But he WAS a good 200m man.

This is more just Hill generating publicity. He's a pro athlete himself he knows what it takes i doubt he seriously thinks that at age 34 he's going to be in the Olympics for sprinting.
I really wish I could remember the numbers exactly but I feel like in PE I once did 16 seconds on grass, barefoot and finished somewhere behind someone that did 11 seconds. I very rarely felt that slow in a sprint back in school. The difference was just mind blowing. As I say, I wish I could remember the time because 16s just sounds pathetic.
I probably flatter myself but maybe that was on off day. I'm pretty sure earlier that year I'd been much closer to the same guy. I may have just watched this race though. So, the way I remember it is a bunch of the "fast guys" all decided they wanted to race each other in the heats and because it was a low key within school thing, that was easily arranged. I wasn't one of them but I ended up in the same heat (or, maybe the one before), on an outer lane. I lost, right, but that time I felt, "Yeah, I can take these guys -- I just needed more distance; I'll be back for the 200m". As I recall, they didn't decide to all pile into the same heat in the 200 because these weren't timed heats -- only the top however many advanced so their "let's all race in the heats" plan just eliminated a bunch of them (and they really were, broadly speaking, legitimate contenders for "the fastest guy in school").
How did I do in my 200m heat? Well, I must've lost because I was, and alas still am, very unfit and was completely gassed by 150m (if not before). I don't remember losing, though. What I remember from that race is running out of puff (again, extremely unfit) and thinking, "Damn, I guess 150m is my distance".
And those are the last three track races I remember participating in. There's probably at least one more that happened (in PE the following year) but I don't remember how I did, I just remember watching a friend of mine run and then going up to her and saying "You're actually quite fast" to which she said either "I know" or "Everyone's always surprised".

I'm a Miami Dolphins fan and I really enjoy the way Tyreek plays, but I flinched when he said he could beat Noah Lyles. That being said, if he trained for it and shed some of the football weight, I think Tyreek might have an outside shot in the 60m.
As referenced in the video, there have been a plethora of NFLers that could have been Olympic caliber sprinters had they focused on track instead of football:
- *Footballers that are former sprinters carry substantially more weight due to football and lack the speed maintenance due to their training for shorter football bursts* as opposed to 60m, 100m, or 200m speed maintenance.
-Tyreek Hill is *barefoot, 5' 8 1/8", 185-190 pounds* So he is essentially, 5'8" and would weigh in the 160-170 range if he were exclusively a sprinter. Meaning, his speed would be different than what it is today.
-Curtis Dickey (215 pounds), Herschel Walker (225-230 pounds), and Bo Jackson (225-230 pounds) were elite high school sprinters. Dickey and Walker were actually elite college sprinters while Bo only ran 10.3x in college but that was due to playing football and baseball and running track with no practice. Dude was 10.3x at 225-230 pounds without even training. Drop 40-45 pounds and let Bo train exclusively for the 60m, 100m, 200m.
I could list 20 former NFL players that had Olympic potential if they only ran track. *Darrell Green* definitely comes to mind.

I remember when Renaldo Nehemiah left sprinting, and world records, behind to get into football. He was a decent wide receiver for four years before going back to sprinting.

There's a Welsh sprinter who did a time of 10.04 at the world juniors.
He had a long career including winning medals and never bettered it.
His comparisons with Noah are absolutely absurd but I‘d really love to see him train specifically for four years to take part in the home Olympics.
Antpine Dupont did that, he missed the big nations Tournament this year to play with the Olympics team and well, in the end they even won the Gold medal.

Professional track and field athletes should race or compete in some shape or form with athletes from other sports, just how an MMA fighter may fight a boxer in a boxing match.
It would do a world of benefit for the visibility of the track athlete, especially when the track athlete beats the NFL player in a race. All the fans who don’t know how fast track athletes are will have an interest in track as there is context for how fast the track stars are after demolishing their favourite fast running back/wide receiver

What is truly absurd to me is people calling out Usain Bolt. Do people really believe that shaving off a few pounds and spending years of optimized training will scrub half a second? Consider that in Usain's prime, he was jogging Tyreek's 10.1 PB to preserve himself. Losing by a hundredth of a second is already humbling. But .5? Bruh.
Hill hit his peak in track right after high school. He’s a football guy who is really fast. Unlike a track guy who tries to play football. You can always tell because they have no lateral mobility and can’t turn their hips. They only have linear speed.
Another thing to consider is size. Hill is too big. To run sub 9.8 he would have to lose 20+ pounds. Not happening.
And look at his form and how tense he was when he ran track. He was grinding it out. Very tense. Which goes back to my point about him hitting his peak. Speed at the Olympic level is very efficient.
All in all I’m take that bet on Lyles any day of the week!

I think this kind of thing should be encouraged. Let’s see people across all kinds of sports go up against Olympic sprinters. Let’s see women, who think they can win against high school champions, get humbled. I’m 54 and people my age+ will remember ABC’s Wide World of Sports, used to do this kind of thing. Fun stuff and really shows the ability of various athletic abilities at the extreme end.
I also believe Lyles loses in the World Championships, next month in Japan.
