- In this video I give a full in depth tour of a 1989 GMC Sierra. I take viewers on a close look through the interior and exterior of this truck while showing details, over viewing of features, and noting unique styling cues to the vehicle itself. I also show the engine and the details of it, start it up and see how it sounds under acceleration. A thorough tour/review of this truck designed to give others a greater overall appreciation of the vehicle.

watching these old videos and seeing comments from 5 years ago makes me feel old.
Gotta love that old carbureted sound
Bleach really
It was actually fairly common for GM to put a 4.3 L V-6 in most of their trucks during that era. My uncle Don had an 86 GMC pick up with a 4.3 in it, and I wish he’d kept it. That was a great little old truck. I am surprised that they only put a V-6 in a truck this size though.
Great video as always Kyle! My dad years ago had a '88 Chevrolet work truck, had a box on it but no boom or bucket, and it had the 350 V-8 but only a 3/4 speed, and it was built on a recreational vehicle cab/chassis rather than a truck chassis like that truck.
He loved that truck, he bought it new in '88 and it was stolen 8 years later, unfortunately.

1:49 horn says wow lol 😂
I think this is the first video i've seen you post in which your hands get greasy just showing us the vehicle lol! I love the variety on your page man, well done!
"fires right up" LIKE A ROCK!
I think it's safe to say this truck has not been pampered. The front end looked in good nick though.
BOOM! Trax, the streets were all over and I was really excited!
A couple of cracks? Kyle, you crack me up.
Keep them coming dude... and yo if you ever find a Back to the Future Time Machine DeLorean, I will literally find YOU and give you the biggest hug ever.
My dream truck right here
No showing operation of the boom?
Probably didn't work
I never got up close to see how a boom truck is before!
Wow and I thought I've seem them all. Apparently you just proved me wrong. I wonder whats next lol. A bus or a firetruck lmao. Keep the awesome videos coming Kyle.
Can you do a cold start on a ford bronco
I love videos of not so common vehicles
hey did you do a video on that old ford e van next to it ?
Nothing like a tour of a service truck to bring the need to wash up and change into fresh clothes, lol. Funny thing we used to have a Ford Super Cab just like the one parked beside this truck. Same exact colors, lol, Thanks Kyle.
Why are both keys square? Usually the square one is for the ignition and the round one is for the doors/trunk...
After you find a DeLorean (there's one for sale in my area actually...in Bellevue I think...haha) I think it would be super fabulous if you found a Merkur XR4Ti. I had one of those for my first car. Good luck and keep 'em coming :)
nice truck indeed, i think with a new seat and a cover for the dashboard can be sold for a nice price, even with that pretty used engine
PS: i laughed when you pumped and the small lever under the radio twisted ahaha
That's actually got the old GM carbureted 4.8L l-6 we had one in a old work truck GMC just like that one. Its a tuff engine too
Did this come from a power company?
انت احسن واحد يجرب المواتر تعال جرب عندنا جرب الشاص وجرب الربع انت فنان مشاء الله عليك
Kyle, I believe that would be a 250 in.³ or I can't remember if it is a 4.8 or 4.9 L in-line six in that truck. The 4.3 L V6 was not used in that particular body style because that was the "carryover "version of the GMC truck.
it's not a straight 6 but it resembles a lot to a 305, a very popular motor for old squarebodys
they did put the 4.3 V6 in the 86-87 1/2 tons, its not super common though
@@deathtrapgarage506 Yes. I had a 2 Wheel Dr. 1986 Chevrolet C 10 with the 4.3 V6 and the three speed automatic 2 Wheel Dr. it wasn’t my favorite powertrain combination as I have a 1982 Chevrolet C 10 with a 305 and a three speed with low range manual transmission. The only thing about that pick up is it was converted to propane back in the day and all of the gasoline fuel components have been lost to time long before I ever got the pick up.
@cerrystyle those are vinyl seats
For this year on this car is pretty good engine
im wondering the new one of these must have the same thing but newer
Yeah, throttle body only on "89s right?
@Jakeman2164 Maybe because it was a half ton. 3/4 and full tons still had the old look until 91 or 92.
I wish he went up in the boom that would be cool
Kyle u should have shown if the boom works
hey could you do a 1998 pontiac trans sport please thank you
@celsovera91 It's called a boom truck because the arm that holds the bucket is called a boom.
all you have to do is look on the sticker on the air cleaner cover and it tells what motor it is.
Oh, okay...thanks!
its a v8 there is 4 plug wires on the one side so unless its a seven cylinder then id expect there to be 4 plug wires on the other side as well
If you want to talk about the 305 engine in an old square body, I have a 1982 square body with a 305 and a four speed in it. With get this, 95,000 original miles.
Square body GMC/Chevy are fantastic
@JakeDaSnakeFilms tes Chevy/GMC restyled teir pick ups in 1988, but cared old body style on heavy duty, duallys, and Suburbans tthru 1991.That old body style first came out in 1973.lol.
According to Wikipedia, the only two 6 cyl engines available at that time were the 4.3 v6 or a 4.8 inline 6. Since that is a V shaped engine, it has to be the 4.3.
it wouldn't be a six if it's a c30. the C30 only ever had a 350 V8, 454 V8, or 6.2 Diesel.
Wow
@g20s10silveradoman whoops my mistake lol thanks for pointing it out dude hahaha
Thats one hell of an exhaust leak.
1:22 EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
1:25 the sound of beauty
Nick Crane lol
Like the dodge old chime
Or jeep old chime
ALLOW ME TO SING THE SONG OF MY PEOPLE
Yegads man, a little Armor All will fix those cracks on the dash board in no time.
a couple cracks in the dash? thats an understatement, lol
It's kind of funny because this truck is almost in better condition then some of the leate 90's cars around where I live.
Do a tour of a Tank!
a couple cracks on the dash...
Are you sure is a V6 and not a V8? The interior needs re doing lol. Engine sounds good
'89???
1:22 Harvey Beaks
damn that ride is older than me .. lol spider confused it self with the engine
the 1973-1991 GMC Sierra was assembled in
Atlanta, Georgia
Baltimore, Maryland
Pontiac, Michigan
Flint, Michigan
Tarrytown, New York
Kansas City, Missouri
St. Louis, Missouri
Janesville, Wisconsin
Norwood, Ohio
Fremont, California
Oshawa, Ontario
Córdoba Argentina
Arica, Chile
"Did somebody say BOOM?"
No EEEEEEEEEEEEEE
No Wow
@saabkyle04 It's funny to see this video after a 2011 aston martin rapide video....
how much did u pay for it?
I hate to tell you sir but you said the carburetor is out of a 5.7 because that is a 6.7 engine. You will never see a 4.3 in a truck that size unless it was modified.
rescue15cms that’s a 5.7 350 truck. Had four plugs per each side. And it’s fuel injected. Has the Throttlebody injection, not a carburetor
the overlap was until 1991 actually, and dont forget the suburbans;
That's a Massachusetts truck. Has a MA inspection sticker
Paul Nota the bearings on those pulleys could definitely use a bit of WD-40
@stephenthabeast He acctually has, they're called Hummer H2 and Escalade haha
there was an overlap between the generations. most of the trucks changed for 1988 but the old generation was kept for the crew cabs, commercial trucks, full size SUVs and i think regular cab duallies till after 1991. think the big kodiak, the real big commercial truck, changed for 1990. GM has been overlapping generations since then i think, running the old ones for 1 to a few years for certain kinds or limited runs. ford did it a couple times too even dodge did it at least once maybe twice too;
not a bad dash for a 89
a couple of cracks??
whats a boom truck
dude thats a 350.. 8 spark plugs 8 exhaust ports, and curse them if its a 5.0 in a service truck so its definetly a 350
That's an ok truck just needs some smarting up.
its a bucket truck oka saabkyle01
@stephenthabeast LOL that would be interesting XD
One of Bob Seger and the silver bullet band's greatest hits!! The ad campaigns after ROCK sucked
Why no diesel fuel only?
There was a diesel option
+Bailey O. Yep the 6.2 Detroit Diesel V8 I believe. I don't think the 6.5 was out yet but I could be wrong there. The 6.2 was naturally-aspirated so there was no turbocharger but from what I've heard it's very reliable and durable. UA-cam user uxwbill has one on his channel.
@@Samspianopage the 6.2 was the only diesel offered in the squarebodies, and if i remember correctly, the 6.5 didn't come until a few years after the introduction of the OBS body style. The 6.2s are durable but gutless for a diesel, you'd be better off getting a 454.
@@deathtrapgarage506 Yeah I think your right there bud.
The 6.5 was 93/93 somewhere in there.
I''m not from America so I'm not too familiar with them engines.
One thing GM should maybe have considered was offering a turbocharged version of the 6.2 just as they did with the 6.5, maybe they did but space, cost or something else in the engine's design meant they couldn't.
Diesel??
no, it's gasoline engine..
They didnt classify engines by liters back then jus HP
lmao its been a decade but you're so wrong. in the 70s and before, engines were classified by cubic inches, then they switched to litres because people were buying euro cars because litres sounded better.
here in Canada we call a "boom truck"
a "cherry picker"
It has a boom on it that's why they call it a boom truck.
that's a 8 cylinder not a 6
@borcilacristian ce mica e lumea :)
Good old fuelinjected small block 350
XPLIZIT_LT_SONIC Kyle said it was Carbureted lol
CloroxBleach 87 and up is fuel injected. you can even tell by looking at the engine. you can see the engine coolant temp sensor
its tbi thats why it still has the carb when they switched over to MPFI they got rid of the carb
there's a spider lives in the truck's engine bay..
@thecomputerfan1 because of the boom on the back
thats a ground up restoration
89 f150 or 89 sierra/1500
Did somebody say boom??
ONLY a 6 cylinder!!!!??? I'd think a 350 or 454 V8 would be WAY more appropriate for a truck like this!!!
517-521.
engine sounds fuel injected too. runs too well to be carb'ed and it has that tbi sound. for being an 89 it should be tbi.
I can't se the video
i thought it was called a bucket truck... not boom truck..
this truck went through trench warfare
What does a boom truck even do?
A thing that lifts up? Lol in this case it has a bucket at the back where you stand and the boom lifts for you to fix lampposts etc. Hence why it's called a cherry-picker. 😂
That does not fire right up. Just saying...
prob 226
Someone says boom
hard shape needs to be restored badly....
That does not look like a 1989 it looks like a 1979 to me.
79s had round headlights
IF IT WAS A 79 IT WOULD NOT OF HAD A BUZZER
@Stephen Sword what?
That's an rv series truck made from 88-91, that's an 89-91 style Grille, the single cabs weren't made after 89 90-91 are crew cab only
That's not an 89. Body style went up til 87 on that.
wrong, The body style stayed untill 1991 As the *Classic* Same as the GMT400 stayed till '00 as the classic.
it's a classic
On the SUVs and utility trucks like this, the old square body remained until 91.
88-91 are rv series that truck is a 1989 gmc r3500 that Grille design is 89-91, 89 is the last tear for the single cab, crew cabs went until 1991
That's not a 350
it has a 327
That's a tbi 350
no? it's a throttle body 350
Just a couple cracks lol
