Great drummer. His first track with Maiden, Where Eagles Dare, erased any and all doubt.
Still my favourite maiden song!
Robert Fraser one of the biggest drums intro ever!
Technically it would have been Flight of Icarus as that was the lead single from piece of mind.
Any other metal drummer would have said "fuck it" and did "Where Eagles Dare" with a double bass. Nicko considered it cheating and worked his ass off to do that triplet with one foot. Gotta respect his work ethic. Not to mention the guy absolutely loves playing the drums even after all these years and it shows every time he plays.
Nicko is easily one of top percussionists of our time. He's also a hell of a nice chap.

nico is one of the most drummer-on-the-right-place drummer. his job in IM is perfect, great, absolutely unique and he is just 'one and only'. thats all. every other thoughs are not important. and not just for few moments, he is doing this awesome job more than 30 years!!! what a great guy. big respect.

He isn't a solo drummer at all - just puts his flavour to Iron Maidens music and that's all he needs.
one thing that has always amazed me is he doesn't use double pedals. single pedal.. he's just fast.

It looks that way too; but he's not 'any average drummer'. He's a professional, with countless hours of studio recording time (from a time before it was digital). This guy has influenced masses of drummers.
His talent speaks alone. If you have had the chance to read about his life and viewed a few interviews of him, he is a very accomplished, articulate and generous man.

@BandaDK I think its to make sure the ride doesnt crash. My boom stand loves to slant every so often and when it does, its impossible to crash. I guess its for people who just want a ride, pure and simple.
is this the full solo? i feel that there's something missing..does anyone know that? it's awesome, but it's pretty short.

@paokalexthes Basically a gong hangs from strings and has no center hole for mounting on a cymbal stand...a china is like a crash with inverted sides and has a center hole for mounting on a stand. What Nicko hits @ 1:05 is a china, what his is hitting @ 1:10 is a gong. Hope that helps!
PAISTE cymbals are in a class of their own...I just bought my first Paiste after 20 years of playing (2002 - 16 crash)......WOW...what an amazing and unique sound compared to the other big cymbal makers. I just ordered the 18" Giant Beat crash and can't wait to add it to my 1960's Ludwig Kit......Paiste all the way from now on!!
