All this fancy social engineering, back in my day scammers were happy just to say they'd trim your armor and then walk away with your full rune set.
Facts, as a 10 year old I worked so hard for my mithril armor then got scammed that exact way lmao
I added a person at Zalcano and over the next few weeks of chatting in-game he threw in random, "break the ice" questions like "what's you're fav song?" or "what's your fav food" or asking what pet I have and their name.

Luckily I managed to catch this BS before casually giving away my account info.
People nowadays are too naïve thinking the internet is a safe place and they can trust anyone on discord because there is a strict ToS. They talk to anyone who asks for it, they answer any questions, they download anything their "friends" tell them to. Talking through discord is almost a prerequisite for most people but they don't realize how easy it is to blurt out something that can get you hacked.
Not everyone is your close friend just because you play the same game. Be careful.

The only people who get scammed are trying to anti-scam. Don’t engage with scammers and you’re golden.
I got scammed by #3 when I started osrs years ago. Someone came up to me at al kharid bank and said they needed gp for runes and didn't want to run all the way to the GE and asked if I would be willing to buy some of their stuff at a discount. I thought I'd do a good deed and buy them without even taking a discount lol, so I just matched the GE price the game showed and told him good luck. I know better now, but honestly I blame the buggy in-game GE price checker for that one. Luckily I only lost around 4m.

I've never been scammed either, but that's not because I'm smart. It's mainly because im isolated. Smart people get tricked every day bo, and if you sit there and say, "Yes, all of these idiots are always getting tricked, but not me!" then it works double on you, you just don't realize it.

I had number 4 happen to me except I didn’t fall for it. My alt and main happened to be at the G.E. They told me to trade my T bow to my alt and back to my main. When I went to right click they had a name under my account with 1 character slightly different. Wish I would’ve screenshotted it
Since getting an Elysian I can't go to the ge without scammers pestering me. Had one sit there are be like "follow me and do x and I'll give you 100m + full set of gilded" he even said bank your items to try to get trust. He sits there and goes "add me" then says I have to hop to whatever world he goes to and telegrab something, in this case he even gave me 777k rofl. As soon as he hopped I just turned my private chat off and hopped a couple worlds away. Dude then proceeded to track me down and start pestering me again rofl.
Like sorry bub I ain't dancing for money, I could go boss for a day and get whatever you are trying to bait me with. That 777k payed for my farm run I was setting up when he solicited me though lol
I was oblivious to the giveaway, go to forums scam the first time I saw it. I knew it had to be too good to be true, but being dumb and naive I still logged in to those "forums". When it suddenly asked for bank pin for login to "forums" I was like "HOLD UP!", and *immediately* went to change my password on actual RS website. They almost had me there. Luckily nothing was lost and a valuable lesson learned.

There's also people who ask to loan up items for few hours or few days and never trade it back.
I remember I made friends with these guys who do corp beast, we used to go daily for months and one day one of them had gambled away his bank so he asked me to borrow him a zammy spear (12.8m) and he basically took it and logged off. I explained to his friend what had happened, and he had said someone bought his friends account and had scammed a bunch of people, they felt bad and gave me back my 12.8m for the spear and apologized. Only time I ever got scammed.

I had a member of my clan recently quiet because he lost his shadow to a PvP death. We all suspect he almost had to have tried to anti scam someone on a high risk world, he quit the game right after, rip
Got lured on my main and lost a TBow and Torva iirc. (total was 2.5b) then gambled the rest of the money (1.5b). Made back what I lost and even more. Wasn't sure if it was a win or a loss but promised to not do both (get lured and gamble) again.
I noticed that there is people who knows that they are missing with scammers but they still missing with them (for fun). Don't do that
if you feel that the person you missing with are scammer or suspecious report him and leave him alone.
and if you are in ge keep spamming that hw id a scammer to make all people report him

Been playing since 2003. Only time i ever got scammed was my 1st year playing in runescape classic.. fished lobster on karamja for over a month just to get 50k to buy a R2H which was the most powerful weapon at the time and immediately got talked into letting my in game friend use it in the wildy lol, he logged immediately and i went back to fishing lobbies with a good lesson learned.
doubling gp isnt a scam, always works for me. idk why everyone always says they were scammed
wouldve been cool if you showed off the top 10 biggest scams, i.e biggest losses of items. Feel like everybody already knows all of these if they watch runescape youtube in general
It's hard to find information on that because most people would never admit they got scammed but I bet there are tons of players who lost billions of gp to these scams.
Clan member of mine lost 4.5b plus to an anti scam scammer, that dragged him out of a bank with a trade in a PvP world
I work in IT and I swear I can guess most people's security questions when they call to reset a password.
Please please everyone, any time you set a security question, make it something only you could possibly know.
If I clicked on one of these links from the fake osrs streamers but didnt type my information, am i safe? I ended up clicking on one but saw the url was weird and closed the page without using my login info
As long as no information was entered, you should be safe.
They will have your IP. You should be safe as they can't do anything without your information but possibly you could be suspect to DDOS attacks. usually after you fill your information you will be DDOS'ed so you can't try and recover your account while they clear it

great video! 7 is technically a lure which is scummy but technically within the game rules... all the others are blatant cheating however.
Also gotta watch out for like doing scams with streamers make sure u are trading the correct person and can see ur trade on stream a lot of people will trade a similar acc and quickly accept to start the death match but they trade the fake streamer
I fell for a highest bid scam back in the day when claws were like 40M. About 10 of us traded over a bid but got our coins straight back and the highest wins claws. Ended up just me and 1 other person left. He put in 17M and said that was all he had. So i put in 17.5M thinking i was billy big bollocks and they both logged. Hope they both had a horrific life.
Yeah it was pretty common, usually 2+ accounts involved, they start off the auction for an expensive item, someone (usually always their alt account) trades 10k or something small, others try 20k and so forth, constantly having their gold traded back so it seems legit, and the whole time the end goal is to get you to trade any amount actually worth logging out for. Sometimes people were stupid and thought n o way I’m gonna get this 50m item for 10m and they fell for it. Always the person out bidding you was their friend.
I once got scammed a fury on christmass day, it was trust trade, soo grinch got me that time

I bought a new pc and downloaded a fake runelite and lost 700m… quited for 2 years before I decided to come back
I easily avoid all scams, even one's I don't know... Because I play entirely solo without talking to anyone or engaging with them Lol.
The first dude seemed 100% planned for content.
There are few very people getting scammed or lured legit. People pretend to get tricked as a method to RMT their items. No one's gonna get banned for being dumb and getting scammed, so it's a good cover story.
To be honest, with the last two you mentioned you really should have gone into detail on how to identify them as scams e.g the email addresses being quite obviosuly fake and the multitude of mistakes that scammers make. Phishing is super effective because people do not know the signs.
I think "never trust anyone on runescspe" sends a bad message. Met many good people on this game. Just don't lose your head guys, stay protected at all times!
You know you got a real good issue on your hands when you can't even make friends in a MMO because you're worried about them social engineering ye.

i've been playing almost 20 years never once have i been scammed. i generally don't talk to other players i never have. even back in rs2 i barely engaged with other players im not here to socialize im here to grind and show off my accomplishments to noobs like you.

#6 Got me in late 2022. Lost my shadow and 400m of other stuff. Clicked in trade to accept and the guy had switched to a similiar name standing by me and was outside of the safe area on the account that sent trade, dragging me out and getting spec'ed out. The beauty of it is the scammers knew I had another 1b in bank that I was not pulling out to risk, and I proceeded to give 100m's to people at ge while they watched and begged for me to join them (probably would try to charge me for the rest) to "earn my stuff back". I returned a year ago, bank is up to 5b now. I will NEVER try playing dumb games with anyone as long as I live in the game, bunch of rats that are toxic and the scum of society play the game. I recieved a perm mute on my account as well, so makes it easier than ever to ignore people now.
It’s really simple to fix scamming overnight and it’s something Jagex implemented before: just bind items.
Dungeoneering already have bound weapons. Have an inventory in your chest that’s bound to you, leaving it untradeable, or have an NPC permanently bind up to 4 items so it has no risk of being sold or destroyed if unbound.
They already solved the account issue, which it’s about time, but this will stop scammers in their tracks I think.

I've played the game for a long time, ill let you do the math's. @@MadeYouType If it was only for the gold I would maybe agree, but being the victim of a scam is not just about the items in game you lose.These scammers are quite abusive people, they will try to attack your self-esteem. And you need to think that there are children too playing the game.
I recall a scammer who faked a relationship with me for a whole week, when he realised he wouldn't pull out a scam, logically he would of just move on to another potential victim. But instead he just tried his best to insult me. Im convinced for many of those scammers, they just get off on it.
I recall a scammer on another mmo (eve online), she loved to scam young boys, like 16y and younger, try to get them to give her nudes and would post that on their socials.
What im saying here is, you can't act like theres no problems, those people are very damaging.

@drizzey0221 there's a report system for that. It makes no sense there a profanity filter and a ignore list but you can get muted for days for dying and saying "I'm retarded" and anyway no pedos and people talking about crime don't get muted because those conversations don't get flagged by the system because most of the words used in those conversations wouldn't be flagged lol. So yeah the pedos and "criminals" don't get muted. But you can for a typo or calling your self a name because you died.
