- Five-time Academy Award®-winner Alejandro G. Iñárritu brings us BARDO, False Chronicle of a Handful of Truths.
BARDO, False Chronicle of a Handful of Truths is an epic, visually stunning and immersive experience set against the intimate and moving journey of Silverio, a renowned Mexican journalist and documentary filmmaker living in Los Angeles, who, after being named the recipient of a prestigious international award, is compelled to return to his native country, unaware that this simple trip will push him to an existential limit. The folly of his memories and fears have decided to pierce through the present, filling his everyday life with a sense of bewilderment and wonder.
With both emotion and abundant laughter, Silverio grapples with universal yet intimate questions about identity, success, mortality, the history of Mexico and the deeply emotional familial bonds he shares with his wife and children. Indeed, what it means to be human in these very peculiar times.
Mexican actor Daniel Giménez Cacho plays Silverio Gama in an indelible performance. Shot on resplendent 65mm by Academy Award®--nominee Darius Khondji (Amour, Se7en) and written by Iñárritu and Nicolás Giacobone (Oscar®--winning Birdman: Or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance) and Biutiful), BARDO, False Chronicle of a Handful of Truths marks Iñárritu’s first film to be shot in Mexico since 2000’s international sensation Amores Perros. The film features production design by the Oscar®--winning Mexican designer Eugenio Caballero (ROMA, Pan’s Labyrinth) and costume design by Anna Terrazas (The Deuce, ROMA).

I don't care what the critics say and at Venice, I have a lot of respect for Alejandro González Iñárritu from Amores perros, Babel to Birdman and the revenant, and with Bardo despite being called "pretentious", this film will surely be very personal for Iñárritu.
And with that, we look forward to it :D
I have seen the film in an early morning in Venice.
It is not at all pretentious (I find the films of AGI usually pretentious, this time, not a single time, except maybe the end that is too long, and he seems to underline a little and being self conscious of what it is said is important.. but this is the only moment of the film)
The way it is sold here, with a handful of tours-de-force, is completely the opposite of the film.
I have never been a fan of AGI and I really, really am in love with the film, that I compare on sometimes with 8 1/2, or with film by Angelopoulos.... (that means a lot to me)
So Netflix did not know how to sell the film, I guess, so they used only the tour-de-force (that for once, in an AGI film, are completely secondary ...)
If you didn’t like the end I heard he removed 22 mins and added a scene so you might like it more
@@OneBigSoul question, why europeans hate the film and why are your racist guys against mexicans🇲🇽? I mean if some French director would make this film I am 100% sure that your people would share more love to the film.
@@DA-wg5cz Shut up I'm Mexican bro theres no racism about this
Yes, like you, I'm very interested in this. A director who has already proved their worth, this time also writing, producing, editing and having a say in the music. As you say, surely a very personal expression through film. Looking forward to it :)
Oh, I wish they would play this in a theater near me. This deserves to be seen on the big screen in surround sound with an audience. This looks like a piece of art.

My first thought too
IMAX it baby!
This trailer should win awards, too. Genius. And the Beatles no less for soundtrack.
These trailers is lying, the film is personal and subtile, and vulnerable... And all the tour de force are secondary...
shut up gary
So often when a company buys an iconic song for a trailer those responsible end up cutting the song up too much which can be really awkward and jarring. This is a great example of how to do it right. Sure the song has been cut, but very tastefully and in the flow of the composition we all know and love so well. Great work.
a bit on the nose though, no? See how they run… horns when the horns blow. i mean theres a ton of youtube musicians who do that all day. I’ll see this film but based on the previous works not this dice and splice

waaaaaaaiiit a minute! This can't be Mexico, there's no yellow filter or evident crime in the storyline. JK, can't wait to watch this.
Also, no Spanish guitars tinkling in the background or dusty streets lined with low-roofed buildings which makes everything look like it's 1850.
Or chickens on the streets and a bunch of cantinas and people wearing sombreros riding donkeys
Lol
The comment was fine until you said JK, stick to your morals, nothing was wrong with what you typed, indeed, Americans portray mexico as dusty with that yellow filter

I saw this at Telluride Film Festival and it's incredible. His opus. Do NOT listen to the bad reviews - at least give it the chance it deserves and watch it for yourself. It's a beautiful film, currently my favorite of the year.

@@Bardmusic66 Yes, but it doesn't get revealed til the end. You have to stick with it to find out the story.
The reviews are pretty vague, which means most people are going to find it hard to connect with, but... i mean, it just looks biutiful. People outside of Mexico probably have no idea how amazing it is to see your country shot like this, with this ambition, and this scale. Mouth watering trailer. My cinematic nipples are rock hard. You got me, its cinema.
Probably any citizen of any country in the world that is not USA or United Kingdom would feel and think the same about it.
"Biutiful"
I see what you did there!
I am both confused and intrigued about this film. It is safe to say that this is one of Iñarritu’s most personal films, based on the events portrayed on screen. Only the director knows what the hell is going on, but the cinematography has already ignited my interest. I think this is going to be a serious contender in the next awards season, especially in the technical categories.
It will be in technical categories but probably not other categories, as critics have not liked the movie at all as a whole so far. Has bad reviews
Could definitely be a nomination for cinematographer.
would be good to take a look at Mexican recent history and culture to figure out "what the hell is going on"
The movie is getting smoked by critics.

There are so many shots that are similar to Bidman and the Revenant. The film looks like the child of those two films. Even if it was 3 hours long I'd still watch it, even at the cinemas.
Completely the opposite of them, in fact. (I have put some answers here and there in the comments, if you want to know more, read them ;) )

Wow, this looks mesmerizing, most like an art experience. No wonder that some critics hates it. Art tends to be confrontational
I've seen this in Venice, I wept while watching it, and I can't help but keep on watching this trailer! Bardo is such an extraordinary, deeply personal movie, absolutely genial! Do not listen to critics, most of them didn't appreciate it, but, trust me, this is not a "hard-to-get" film! In my humble opinion, this is truly a gem, a whole new world I couldn't take my eyes off! I was lucky enough to see this movie on a big screen, during the Festival Lumière in Lyon (France), with a crowd and, most importantly, with Alejandro González Iñárritu himself. It was incredible cause unfortunately it will not be shown in French cinemas. Visually it’s stunning, the performances are great, the movie is surrealistic and eerie/dreamy. He told us that it was his most personal movie, and that only him can really understand what’s going on in it. It’s more like a sensory experience, he said that we should focus on the feelings we have watching the film, because this movie is all about different atmospheres, different feelings he felt, and that made sense to him, deep down in his mind.
If you have the opportunity to see this in a movie theater, take it !

I saw a couple of shots that reminded me of the Revenant. Father and son embracing, stepping towards nature in awe of it's beauty, climbing a pile of what looks like dead bodies, floating bodies, armies running and fighting in chaos. This film looks like it's going all in on dream logic.
the scene of the soldiers seems to be a recreation of the capture of the castle of chapultepec
@@gearsofschok what is that? I'm looking forward to understanding Mexico a little better from this movie. You could fill a stadium with what I don't know about Mexico.
@@samfilmkid the battle of the castle of chapultepec happened during the american-mexican war in 1847, when the united states arrived at the capital of mexico, and attacked one of the last positions of the mexican army, the castle was a military academy, inside there were many cadets who they fought. There is a myth that says that a soldier wrapped himself in the Mexican flag and jumped from the highest tower into the ravine with the flag, so that the enemy soldiers would not capture it.
This film immediately caught my attention because it looks like my dream sequences reflected on a screen, and immediately had me wanting to see it JUST from this trailer last night. I don’t know a lot about movies or film but have always respected it, and this really looks amazing!
I doubt we’ll get it because it’s also a Netflix release, but I really want my local more artsy theatre to show this because I’d 100% see it on a big screen.

No se podría esperar nada mejor del gran Iñarritu, visualmente espectacular.
Somehow this guy reached inside my mind and turned every acid trip I’ve ever had into an actual motion picture.
This looks amazing! Cinematography/shots look insane. False Chronicle of a Handful of Truths...makes me think of how I exaggerate a small truth in my mind and turn it into a fear or anxiety that never actually happens ...hence the "experience a state of mind" line. Could be wrong either way i'm not missing this. This is going to be a banger. Oscar noms hopefully.
Really cool and promisingly accurate intepretation
This is one of the few films where almost everything said about it is true lol yes, it is very personal, meta, self indulgent, and at times pretentious, but also unbelievably beautiful, universal, and transcendental. As a Mexican American (who once struggled with this “bardo” of cultural identity) and who happens to be an aspiring artist (also torn between staying home close to family or leaving to cities where I will most be able to fulfill my dreams) and who seeks truth above ideology or nationalism, I believe I was the perfect “reader” for this film. If you don’t find yourself subscribed to any of the items aforementioned (which, of course, is perfectly fine-this film capitalizes on the idea that art is truly subjective) this will not be the film for you. But I thought it was brilliant.
No ideal what this movie is about but I can't wait to see it. Also what a great trailer cut perfectly to a Beatles song.
I’m with you. Precisely.
I see much in the imagery (in the trailer) that seems to represent events like drought, migration, the pandemic, and then the afterlife (train)
As a Mexican, I'm thrilled to watch this movie asap. There's a scene that reminded me of Radiohead's video for Just. Mexico is indeed a state of mind and I'm quite sure critics and people that haven't been here may Not get it and that's alright. That's the pair of huevos Iñárritu has.
I get the trailer, for any Mexican it makes sense in some scenes that seem out of this world, like the dude falling from the tower or the subway getting flooded.

Feels like Alejandro G. Iñárritu bitten by Terrence Malick and Leos Carax.

Whatever the film turns out to be this trailer is impecable!!!
Holy shit the soldiers that wrapped themselves in the Mexican flag and jumped to prevent American soldiers from taking it is in this movie.¡Viva Mexico!
Further context: they are Los Niños Heroes. They were Mexican military cadets who in one of the last battles of the Mexican-American war stopped invading American soldiers from taking the Mexican flag. They climbed to a tower, wrapped themselves in the flag, and jumped. It was a brave act of defiance against the colonizers who’d then steal all the land that became the American southwest. Never thought Id see that imagery in a newer movie so it caught me by surprise. But of course this is a Mexican film despite Iñaritu’s penchant for making American films.
Ohhh That's right!!! No wonder the American white critics didn't like it 😂
