Who else remembers Rerun dropping the tape recorder as he was dancing at the Doobs concert? Hey, hey, hey!!
🙋♀️
If you have Roku you can watch it on the Roku channel. Season 2, episodes 16 and 17. It's practically just a mini concert in the second half.
LOL, Oh, yeah, and the band was pretty pissed at him for doing that, if I remember, I think.
Lol ,you just brought back a memory, thank you.
Yaaasssss!! HEY HEY HEY. Loved What's Happenin
I love watching Brad trying to get into Lex's head, give it up brother theres no way of fittin into her head, its magical, mystical and fantastical...I love it...peace
They seem to be trying to understand where each other is coming from and using music as their insight so God blessem. But you are right getting into her head may be a mistake.
I'm trynna figger out why he don't try to get into his OWN head...just sayin'
Too funny!
Everyone wants Lex . We all just jealous of Brad
Brings back good memories of growing up in the 70’s. What a fool believes and take it to the streets are also great songs be them
I absolutely agree. This must have been my favorite song as a kid. And the other two you list are amazing!
It takes me back to the NCO club overlooking Monterey Bay in the 70s.
The 70's were good, esp early on
Doobie Brothers have had several iterations over the years, but this is still my all time favorite of theirs. And yes, the name Doobie comes from their predilection for doobies.
Yes, this is one of my favorites. I like the Michael McDonald version the best overall but they had great music in all their iterations. I just really appreciate Michael McDonald's singing and playing even more than I did back then.
Predilection, hahahahah! So that's what I have, huh how bout that. Gonna pay my doctor a visit for my bad case of Predilection and get my doobie card asap.
Steely Dan was named after a dildo. Pretty cool
I like when Lex gets that smile on her face and you know she's digging it.
Lex is now Southern Rock fan!
she feels it
Everyone should be as Jacksonville Native or at least for 60 years -Skynrd put Jax on the map as did Blackfoot ,Molly Hatchet -Allman Bros founded in Jax as well but Greg did not like the Southern Rock Moniker he said we are Blues Band
Doobies are mighty good at making songs that just "fit" for when you want uplift and casual energy.
That's a great phrase "casual energy" sounds like a great name for a laid back band. Cleveland, are you ready to ROOCK! This band has come all the way down from an acid trip just to play for you. Would you please welcome CASUAL ENERGY! T- shirts in the lobby.
@@robertkees6048 lol your mind is a circus. I love the circus!
This is on the mellow side for the Doobies. They can also really rock out. A couple of older ones that should have you moving are Long Train Runnin' and China Grove.
Yes
My Mom, who is 81 today, had the album The Best of the Doobies, and I played it to death in high school, early 80's. Thanks, Mom, and Happy Birthday!
I have that, and it's on rotation when I'm riding.
The outro of this song is just pure vibes.
Also, as soon as Lex said Splash Mountain I knew what she meant.
LOL, Doobie Brothers = Country Bear Jamboree. Disney needs to buy the rights to this and add it to the mix! :)
@@kjmorley it's so great because when she said "if you know you know" I was just like....Lex I know exactly what you mean.
This song was actually a departure from their usual sound. My favorite is Long Train Running. Great harmonica solo in that song.
Oh man, Long Train Running is so good
I saw doobies in the eighties and 15,000 people singing "black water", had to be one of the coolest things I have ever participated in.
Been a fan since 1971 and saw them live in 73 along with Ten Years After and Rare Earth man they sure had some great concerts back then what a great time to be alive
Yes it was. Saw all the bands. I still have ticket stubs. Amazing. $6.50 at the door to see Sabbath, Lynyrd Skynyrd and Peter Frampton.
Yassss
This is just a sweet, relaxing Deep South song about taking it easy and enjoying a simple life.
Since this song came out, it’s always been one of those special tunes that everyone sings along to.
This band broke their musical chops playing in Northern California biker bars that were patroned by no less the Hells Angels
Yup! The “Chateau Liberte’” in the Santa Cruz Mtns above where they came from, San José, California. They went to San José State University. They’ve made 18 Albums, Won 2 Grammy’s are just starting a New Tour in Sept. of 2021….SanJoseBob
Funny how people think there southern like ccr
The Doobie's are always very sentimental for me...my fathers favorite band.
The Doobies are my feel good anytime music. Always a pleasure.
You have just opened a very deep rabbit hole! The Doobies have released 14 studio albums & 29 total, selling over 48 million albums since 1971. This song was put on an album a a filler song and was never intended to be released as a single. Black Water is very different than most of their songs that range through rock, blues, R & B, jazz and about anything else you can think of! They have had 2 #1, 5 top 10 and 27 top 100 Billboard Hot 100 songs over the years and are still playing!
This is a deep rabbit hole of funky, blues, rocking Doobies.
The Doobies have tons of great music, try "Long Train Runnin'" or "Listen To The Music" or "Jesus Is Just Alright." For their rock side check out "China Grove" or "Rockin' Down The Highway." For their soul/funky side try "Takin' It To The Streets"
Wheels of Fortune is an awesome deep cut as well!
Clear as the Driven Snow ❄
All that!
Jesus is Just alright with me, is another good song from them. My kind of music😀
B&L, You'll love their "Jesus Is Just Alright". Even non-christians love it😁
Yes, we do!! Shalom.
Long “Train Runnin” is a top 10 of mine. Every time I hear it, I imagine them having the best time of their lives playing the song. It has a great backstory too.
I first heard of the Doobie Brothers from the TV show, What's Happening!....Rerun, Raj & Dwayne
Glad they voted for this! True Southern Rock!
Wow, The Doobie Bros. That takes even me back. Simple feelgood music.
The ending consists of "three part harmony"...where each singer is singing a different verse, slightly out of time with the others so that they weave together a beautiful tapestry of sound. One person is singing, "I'd like to hear some funky dixieland, pretty mama come and take me by the hand" and keeps repeating that, while the next singer is singing, "by the hand...take me by the hand...come and dance with your daddy all night long", then the third voice chimes in with, "hand...pretty mama...with you all night long". If you listen again, you'll be able to pick out the different parts each person is performing. Three part harmony is amazing!
"Progressive Southern Rock "....nice observation Lex
China Grove, Long Train Running, Listen to the Music are my favorite DB songs.
Definitely a Doobie Brothers must and I would also include there What a Fool Believes as cheesy as it is I love that song too
Yes, cool Southern California laid back music. Influenced by their time in New Orleans. Yes, it has a Southern vibe for sure.
One of the SMOOTHEST songs ever... Brings back a whole lot of childhood memories.. Doobie Bro's Rock!!!!
I grew up on this album. Of all the bands, The Doobie Brothers were played the most in our house. I always loved the harmonies in this song.
You can't get any more Americana than The Doobie Brothers, especially this song.
When I was a teen my stepdad liked country, I liked metal and hard rock, Doobie Bros. was our middle ground when we went fishing and camping, always remember him and our great fishing trips fondly when I hear this song.
"Progressive Southern Rock"!!! Damn Lex, once again you absolutely NAILED it with the perfect description of a group you are supposedly hearing for the first time. New subscriber here and really enjoying your insight into the music I grew up with.
I’m not sure “progressive” is the right word, however…..to me, it’s much more of a throwback.
Yeah southern California maybe the doobies were not a southern band.
They are not southern rock
@@leonardhenderson6723 Right, a song that has the lyrics "I'd like to hear some funky Dixie land" is not Southern rock. It's a genre, not a geography.
Among the GREAT groups from the GREATEST decade of music... the 1970s!! "Listen to the Music" is their anthem!!
Fades in, fades out, like something drifting by on Ol' Man River.
This came out in 74. Probably one of the first songs I learned the lyrics to cruising around with mom in the 67 Chevy.
This band almost hung it up, just before they made it. Album flop after album flop and this song, recorded a few albums earlier, accidentally got played on the air. The Doobie Brothers FINALLY got the sales they needed. What a career and string of hits to follow! Not a major fan but part of my “movie” just the same!
The Doobies have lots of sounds and hits. Check out their songs, "LISTEN TO THE MUSIC", "LONG TRAIN RUNNING", and "CHINA GROVE".
The Doobie Brothers fused jazz, gospel, southern rock, bluegrass, creating addictive albums forty odd years ago.
For this child of the 60's and 70's, this is VERY calming. Reminds me of simpler days and easier times. A time when this played on the radio coulda been followed by War, Tony Orlando & Dawn, Earth, Wind, & Fire, or David Bowie because good music was just good music.
Brought a tear to my eye, thank you.
This was summertime for me, all forms of simple joy-- the windchimes always felt like the sunshine itself.
It's one of the greatest songs of all time
My song every morning when I'm making coffee; "O black water, keep on perkin'...."
I herd this the first time going down a country road in 1974, I have loved it ever since...
This song is a vibe. If you are from Wisconsin or Minnesota, you will know, this song was the perfect tune to listen to while tubin'/floating down the Apple River with friends and refreshments in tow.
I can remember crushing the back roads in 1977 with my girl friends. Drinking & smoking on those joints, listening to this song and singing through the whole song really loud 😁 Brings back great memories & good times.
this is just a good old song made in the 70's the best period for music,,, this song reminds me of lazy summer days fishing and swimming in the river, lounging back drinking a cold beer, listening to good music and having a good time.
Loved how her eyes lit up towards the end
As an old metalhead I'm surprised at how much I enjoyed listening to this old song which I haven't heard in decades with you guys, I could sing along with it as if I had heard it just yesterday or this morning, brought back great vibes of being a kid.
Doobie Brothers, and Steely Dan were my favorite bands since I was twelve (1971). Cant go wrong listening to them. The two bands exchanged artists.
ooh, yeah Doobies! am so excited, gonna go see them in a couple of days.
I love watching people discovering and digging the music of my youth.
I am seeing the Dobbie Brothers next week in concert 50th anniversary, With Michael McDonald...
The fiddle gives the song a playful whimsical mood.
I was fortunate to have seen the Doobies it was in the eighties , they have a huge band, 2 drummers and 2 percussionist as well. I tell ya,when they play this song everyone sings and dances. Thanks y'all.
Brother Gary
True story...my uncle and I sang this song over and over and over again on a 6 hour drive to Disney world. Our family was ready to disown us! We laughed so hard. I can't hear this song and not think of him.
That is what’s referred to as 4 part harmony, and it’s very cool! It’s a throwback to Ole Timey music, and it really sets a mood. Great song!😁
Its song about the Mississippi river. "Well I built me a raft and she's ready for floatin'"....
Eyes Of Silver is another hidden gem. Rarely heard
Remember when the Doobie Brothers made a guest appearance on the TV sitcom "What's Happening"?
Love your reaction! This is a classic feel good song. "..I'll be buyin' everybody drinks...!"
The 70's. No drunk driving laws and going on space rides with your friends. This song comes on and all of a sudden without you knowing it. Your speed keeps increasing but you are just driving to flow of this song. LOL we use to be so free in the day.
The Doobies are sometimes classified as “Southern Rock” or a “Southern Boogie Band” but they were actually based in California and part of the California Sound movement
Yes! As soon as Lex said DisneyWorld ride I immediately knew!! F*cking spot on!!
"Black Water" by the "Doobie Brothers" is such a Wonderful Song! It has it all--great lyrics, vocals, instrumentals. The song features Excellent Vocal AND Instrumental Harmonies! A True Classic!
in a galaxy far far away...if I had seen Lex 'diggin it' at a concert in 1969-70 I would have been hopelessly infatuated...
Music back in the 70's and early 80's had a soul to it.
Classic. Never, never forget!!!
"This is like progressive southern rock" - nailed it.
Lex had it right. The Splash Mountain ride derives its story from the movie Song of the South, and tells the story of Br'er Rabbit and Br'er Fox and Br'er Bear where the fox and bear tries to catch the rabbit to cook it but the rabbit has tricks up his sleeves and always escapes to its briar patch.
As a 45 rpm record this track was originally issued as the flip side of a track that was intended for airplay. The deejays flipped that record and made this song a hit!
The Doobie Bros. never thought this song would a hit...was a big surprise to them
I went to high school in San Jose, CA, with Pat Simmons- the guy singing lead and the composer of this wonderful song. Even got to jam with him !
Wow, too cool! Love me some PS vocals.
The Doobies, simply a CLASSIC!
Eyes of Silver is probably one of their most overlooked songs, it is a rocker.
Good song to drive to, fish to or just chill out. I feel like ole girl said. A lullaby! 🤣✌🏻❤️
The Doobie Brothers may be the greatest name for a band
This was a mellow kick back , relax and forget your troubles version of The Doobie Brothers.
I've heard this song probably more than any song ever. Love the south.
Y’all have really sweet energy. And your hair is so cute, Lex.
Uncle Remus, Song of the South.
Progressive Rock.She is a keeper.
If you want something a bit more intense from them, check out my favorite China Grove
I was very young, maybe 4 or 5 years old, and every single time this song came on the radio my Father or Mother would turn it up for me, and they knew how much I loved the "drop", when the music drops and they go Accapella...
I went as nuts as a 5 year old can go, singing a progressive country rock song in a moving car can go!
It's sort of a laid back hazy summer day type of song... very relaxed...
Doobie brothers were definitely innovative. Their (record) production was also as good as it got back then
My first concert back in the 80's was Joe Walsh opening for The Doobie Brothers. Amazing.
She is so observant. Amazing. Love it.
She totally got it with that Splash Mountain reference. Mississippi Paddle Boat ride vibe too.
Love the Doobie Bros, you'll like LONG TRAIN RUNNIN! 😁💜
This is a very magical song that has kept me hypnotized for 50 years....just fyi, in Mississippi and Alabama close to the coast... the rivers water frequently look black because of the ground color the water is running over....many of the rivers are actually named "Black River"
I love the chill vibe of this song. Back in the '80s, I played basketball. The boy's and girl's teams were loaded up on a bus for an away game. Somebody just broke out singing this song and everybody joined in. We sang it all the way through - had the harmonies and different verses going. It was like something out of a movie! Good times.
Bought my dad tickets to see their 50th anniversary tour two years ago for Christmas and just got to see them a couple weekends ago. They kick ass live even at like 75😂
You have to remember that this song was released in 1974. Different vibes goin on back then.
Things were more laid back.
There wasn't a need for urgency to get things done
..."it's a little bit like, alot going on." 😄👍
After hearing that song you won’t get it out of your head for a week, you’ll be finding yourself singing it every day
Brear rabbit , briar bear, brair fox all from the Disney movie "Song of the South". main character was Uncle Reamus. 1st movie I ever saw in a theater, it was in the early 70's. Zipadee-do-dah Zippe-ay my oh my what a wonderful day, plenty of sunshine heading my way, Zipp-ah-di-do-da Zipp-ah-di-ay. dang Lex bringing that up brought a tear to my eye, made me think about my grandma who left us in 1998.
The Doobies are so dope for good chillin vibes
Back in the day when a Doobies song came on we would say "which Doobie you be" and we had to name whichever Doobie bro we were feeling that day 🎶🎵
Another good REACTION Brad 👍✌
