BRAVO! Well done! I have been servicing vintage audio equipment since the 70s. Most of the equipment is made in Japan. I have a lot of quality tools. I only recently discovered JIS screwdrivers. They are now, by far, my favorite screwdrivers for working on Japanese equipment. The difference in how a JIS screwdriver fits JIS screw heads, as opposed to a quality common non-JIS screwdriver, is VERY noticeable the first time you try one. I no longer fear damaging the head of an overly tight screw, or worse yet, stripping the screw head or just breaking it off. No more fighting those stuck screws, succeeding at getting them loose, only to find that the head is damaged and ugly. With the proper fitting JIS screwdriver those same screws get reinstalled without damage, just like they were never removed at all
Motion Pro sells #1,2&3 JIS 1/4" insert bits pretty cheap. They work very well on my antique Japanese motorcycles and all of my ZAMA carbed yard machines.
I bet not too many know about this. I have run across them but figured it was a bad chinese screw , oh look their all buggered. LOL Awesome buddy I was cursing the chinese all this time. HAHA
Trying to get to the bottom of this one! My 2013 Honda Civic Rotor screws (that are seized up and stripped) have a dimple on them in the same place but not as profound. They are stripped because of using a Phillips screwdriver/Phillips impact screwdriver. Is it possible they are JIS screws? If so, is there a JIS bit I can buy to use in my impact screwdriver set (that comes with Phillips head bits only!)?

Some of the Sharp photocopiers/printers I used to work on had these screws.....
I have one of those screw drivers, got to work on some imports.
It can sure lessen the frustration....having something that fits correctly
That's interesting, I'm going to have to get me some of those screw drivers for sure. Thanks Crusher
Sure saves carb bowl screws and such.

I always thought they were 'Read & Prince'...
I think Reed and Prince AKA Frearson is a British variant that is very similar.
Good to hear from you JE
Great explanation of the difference Greg but JIS actually stands for Jerry Is Sexy :P Lol
Only in Alberta Jerry 😀

If you drive a phillips into a JIS hard enough with a hammer, they come right out!....................tony
