By my estimation Warrant is a way under appreciated band 😊
It still breaks my heart that Jani is not here with us anymore. I miss him so much! He was so super talented in many ways and had such a way of delivering music to the world. It made you fall in love with his voice and the songs. And, yes, those gorgeous eyes (sigh). Lol. He was Beautiful!! I agree that he never got the credit he deserved. I will never forget Jani. I will always be a lover of him as an artist, and a lover of his music. RIP Jani.
Warrant was such a phenomenal band. Jani was just an amazing singer. RIP Jani
Loved that guy. It makes me happy and sad to do their vids.
WE LOVE YOU JANI❤❤❤
@@flickeringboxofficial I feel the same way.I feel like Jani never got the proper recognition he deserved.I really miss him
When they did the memoriam that year he died he didn't get recognized. It was such a slight.
Jani killed it! Writing, Singing, whatever... He was MAGICAL! 🥲
"And I've been hurt and I've been blind, and I'm not sure that I'll be fine" is such a haunting lyric, especially the way it is sung by Lane. Dude got a raw deal, wish we could have done more to help.
I appreciate that you're giving these bands the redemption they've deserved for a long time. Grunge gets the credit for ending this phase of music, but really bands like this Skidrow, Dokken, Winger, Queensryche, Extreme, Motley Crue, BulletBoys, King Kobra and Slaughter deserve far more attention and respect than they've gotten over the last few decades.
One of the most under rated bands of all time. Jani is so missed!
Agreed
I remember seeing Warrant live when they opened for Poison in 1990. Then, in 2000, I saw them in St. Pete. I remember getting there early (Jannus Landing) and being in the front row and singing every song word for word. Jani pointed at me and said, "Thanks, man!" Then, they came back the next year and played a small club in Ybor. After the third song, Jani said, "You! I remember you! Hold on." He hands me a handful of picks, grabs a drumstick (from I think Mike Fasano who was playing drums at the time) and hands me a drumstick. Then he says, "We appreciate you supporting us." After the show, he comes out to bar area and just hangs out and then sees me and gives me a hug and says, "let's get a picture." This was 20 plus years ago. I just wanted to share. Thank you for the songs and the memories.
Jani was a genius songwriter. Just amazing. Miss him.
Yes and we all do.
I love his voice in Sometimes she cries
Jani Lane was so broken hearted and he expressed it in a song. I can feel his sadness throughout the song. RIP Jani Lane
The best thing about Janie was how good he sang live. Amazing
They have some other fantastic ballads like Blind Faith, Sometimes she cries, Heaven, Bitter pill
Such a underrated band 😢
Not only is this a great song, but I love how it fits so well into the sequencing of the "Cherry Pie" CD. As soon as he ends the line "Ooh it must be magic", it immediately goes into the acoustic guitar intro of "Bed Of Roses". I love the transition.
This is lyrically really excellent. Good choice! RIP Janie! Gone too soon. One of the best voices in rock and you are accurate in saying he did not get the recognition he deserved.
Jani Lane was absolutely one of the best song writers of rock. I only got to see Warrant one time but it was awesome. I was maybe 10 feet from the stage. Those memories will stay with me forever!
Also, whoever directed this video did a great job. It goes so well with the song.
I’m an Aussie and saw Warrant live in concert in Melbourne Australia. They rocked and put on a great performance live, Jani was a great entertainer and a fantastic singer
Jani was an amazing all around talent songwriting skills are still untouchable
I remember when working at KNAC back in the day and Warrant released the Cherry Pie album. Jani Lane and the rest of the band came into the station to promote the record and we discussed I Saw Red and also the album name that it was originally going to be called Uncle Tom's Cabin. I recall Jani being really upset at the record company early on for basically twisting his arm to write another song, then changing the album name. He played I Saw Red acoustically in the studio that day. I'll have to check, but I might have that station recording in my boxes of from my time at KNAC. I saw Warrant live so many times. They always sounded great! Jani was an amazing song writer and guitar player. He was taken from us way too early.
Burch, it's hard not to have a tear in your eye every time you watch Jani sing.
That song brings back so many memories
That song reaches into my soul every time I hear it. It happened just like he sang it. Jani brought us magic with his amazing voice and incredible talent. Warrant was so underrated. They were an incredible band and still one of my favorite bands today. Rest in peace Jani Lane. You may be gone but you will never be forgotten.
Warrant is my favorite 80’s band. I miss the 80’s
Was lucky enough to see Warrant a few times back in the day. Jani and the boys never disappointed. One of my favorite Warrant songs is Mr. Rainmaker. That would be a good one to review. It really shows Jani's range as a singer. Keep up the great work.
I TOTALLY AGREE, they should do Mr. Rainmaker. I had a hard time doing the transitions along with Jani, but I sure tried my best!
I've got a tumor on the back of my tongue (as it goes down the throat), so I've lost a good 1/2 octave of my vocal range. But one day I hope to try & sing a lot of our Warrant fave's .
Thank you for your comment!
Awesome song
Burch had to comment on this one .. in the 80s I did not see many concerts so from 99-2003 I started making up for lost time. I saw warrant somewhere in Massachusetts and when Jani started singing I saw Red we were all singing it back to him ; he stopped the show with tears in his eyes saying : ‘You guys that means so much , I wrote this song and you guys know every word’...Then they started from the beginning and played us the whole thing. I will never forget it
Bravo! Always loved this song for 2 reasons.
First is obviously the theme. As you mentioned, I think most of us have gone through a crushing breakup at some point in our lives that we thought we’d never recover from.
Secondly, I’ve always loved specifically the vocal belt in the bridge after the 2nd verse. The translation of the emotional element of his voice was so effective. Still gives me goosebumps until this day.
agreed and well said
This song helped me for that very reason
RIP Jani, you were an amazing singer and songwriter...one of the best of your generation.
Saw them on their first US tour before DRFSR even came out. They were in a tiny bar in southern Delaware called Tap Works. They took pictures at this location to use for their endorsement of Shure microphones.. Another band from LA called D'molls opened. There were maybe 12 people in this place. They invited me and my 3 friend to their tiny dressing room to hang out.
D'Molls are fkn sweet!
I saw them in '90 with Poison. Neither group disappointed.
One of my favorite songs! Love Jani so much and Warrant! So sad he's not with us anymore. One of the best singers/songwriters! Thank you for doing this song
Awwww my all time favorite!!!! Jani was the love of my life until he passed away. He is still my favorite person in a band.
You can find clips of Jani live just a few days before he passed away and he was still singing those note. He was great until the end and will continue to be.
One of my favorite songs if not the favorite! I seen them so many times back in the day!
The shows never disappointed
At the time this album came out, I was with the first love of my life. While she didn't "fully" cheat on me, I opened a door into a party and found her sitting on the lap of another guy, arms around each other (later I learned it was supposedly due to a drinking game). I said nothing, shut the door and walked away, seeing red. I'd never seen red before and never again. I was so hurt and angry and after calming down a bit (read: I punched a tree a few times and realized how dumb that was), I thought of this song. Oddly, what happened didn't make me hate the song in the least...it was and still is, one of my favorites.
Warrant was such a top-notch band, and Jani's voice and writing are timeless.
The band did release just an acoustic version of this with just Jani and his guitar in the video.
This and "Blind Faith" are two amazing ballads. Very few bands have two all-time greats, let alone on the same album.
Seeing how Alexis likes his voice, makes me anticipate watching her react to Layne Staley vocals. Any song from the unplugged show or Love hate love live.
Such a great underrated band. So many good songs with great passion. Loved them live as well. Saw them twice and it was great.
Loved that song and that is a song that I could blast in the car that my wife and daughters would all sing too. Great reaction, thanks for showcasing this song!
Thank you for giving Warrant it’s due and showing your appreciation for the world class talent that will always be.. Jani Lane. Underrated is an understatement! Keep up the great work you two! Def play some more Warrant and if you really want to blow Alexis’s mind play some TNT “Tonight I’m Falling”. Tony got pipes!
I just found this channel and I haven't a clue how these 2 know each other but I love how someone from my generation can show a younger gen person our music and she appreciates it.
The best rock vocalist to come out of the late 80's and 90's. Hands down!
I was born in 74, so hearing these songs that I grew up with just takes me back to a place and time I would give anything to be able to return to. Warrant was one of the MANY hair bands that were all the rage when I was in middle/high school...and I loved them all. I'll never forget their song, 'Sometimes She Cries', because it was the 2nd song me and my date danced to at the prom('Faithfully' by Journey was the first song they played). Those were the days!!!!! Thanks for help taking me back!
This whole album was fantastic! This was by far my favorite song from this album. Reliving my high school years over here 😃
His voice had power. This song shakes me every time I hear it. It is my favorite Warrant song. Uncle Tom's Cabin is my next favorite. RIP Jani.
The comment you made about what a great guy Jani was really hit home. I went some buddies to see Warrant at a small club. After the show we were just hanging out and Jani walks up and says “Hey guys”. He stood there and talked with us about women and football for a good twenty minutes. He was literally like one of the guys. At the end he said “Sorry guys, they are signaling me that I have to go. It was really nice talking to you. The Steelers suck!”
Such a genuine man. His passing seemed personal...like I lost a friend.
Jani was such a great song writer. So underappreciated
Saw them in 91 great singer & under rated band
Great song and great reaction. I'll b here to like every song from the hair band era for sure. My era and to me the greatest era musically
My very first concert was Poison / Warrant in the late 80s early 90s
Hola!
When I busted up with my fiance years ago, his song Let It Rain got me through that tough time. Thank you Jani for healing my broken heart.
Now your in my wheelhouse..thanks for all these trips down memory lane and keeping the great music alive!
What a great singer! Saw them open for Crue in 89…went in kinda going ‘Warrant…whatever’ and they blew my mind. So good! RIP Jani.
I went to see them and he sang this directly to me.... looked into my eyes. He was a true artist and giftted storyteller.
I saw Warrant so many times back in the day. Jani was a great entertainer. RIP buddy.
This song is so good. Like I said in the Uncle Tom's Cabin video, this whole album is great.
I bought their first two albums when they came out. Loved the 80's and early 90's hair bands.
"The Bitter Pill" would be a great one to do as a bookend to this one .
I haven't heard this in like 20!yrs or more!
I'm not 😭 crying...you are!!!
I saw Warrant play in Brisbane Australia in probably 1990 or 1989 , they were soooo good , it makes me cry to think how Jani lost his life , RIP old friend because that is how listening to these songs makes you feel , like you knew him and the band , they were such a big part of my and many people's lives , memories of the best times in my life , bring back 1990 !
Man, I miss Jani…Great song choice and reaction!! He wrote some amazing songs…Stronger Now…Thin Disguise…Bitter Pill…Machine Gun…Mr Rainmaker…Letter To A Friend…The list goes on and on. Love your channel!!🤘🏻
I loved the song Stronger Now. I've seen a video of his daughter singing it as well. Jani Lane is one of the singers who I really miss. I saw them play so many times from arenas to small clubs.
Okay Burch! I really think it's awesome how you're paying it forward to the younger generation. Especially with the so-called "Hairbands". It was a great era for music. I do have an AMAZING song that may or may not have landed on your radar. The band is Bad4Good and the song is "Nothin' Great About a Heartache". It's a great song, produced by Steve Vai and the lyrics are so good that it's like reading class-A poetry. Whether you react to it or not, you really need to check this song out. I guarantee it will be added to your permanent Playlist. There's a few other songs on their only album that are worth checking out too. Rock on!!!
Saw these guys in Dothan Alabama with Extreme. Small venue, but a heckuva concert. Also saw Ratt and Poison in the same venue.
Hey Burch, thanks for sharing your stories. I got the pleasure of hangin out with Jani and the boys at a local rock bar here in Kansas City back in the mid 90s. They got me kicked out for fighting. This dude was hitting on my girlfriend at the time. Joey and Jerry were sharing a bottle of Jack and pointing to him, "kick his ass, I would. Go kick his ass!!" I did just that, got kicked out and then married that girlfriend a few months later. Happy to say that she is still my wife and still love to share the memories of how Warrant was the reason for our 25+ years of marriage.
I prefer the acoustic version also. There’s a real pain and deep hurt that the acoustic brings out more than the radio version does.
It was something special to see. RIP Jani
Banger! 😎🔥🤘🎸
Jani, was extremely brilliant both vocally and lyrically..... And I knew Jani before the Warrant days as I'm originally from Akron, Ohio as well .... As much as this version is great.... The acoustic version is extremely better in my opinion....I love the acoustic version....Jani is extremely underrated..... Thank you for showing him love
I agree, Jani was a good singer and songwriter, very under appreciated.
Jani was a phenomenal writer and singer.. His story of Cherry Pie and the A&R man needing a single still breaks my heart.
And his website still has his reconciliation and coming to terms to appreciate the massive hit he wrote in 15 minutes and the what might have been if he hadn't
Seeing father and daughter enjoy this absolute jam is so heart warming. Absolutely love Warrant. RIP Jenny Lane 🙌🏾
Not father and daughter. Here is our intro video that explains ua-cam.com/video/Kp-qS6Djl6c/v-deo.html
@@flickeringboxofficial oh thanks for the correction. Cheers.
@@flickeringboxofficial Later check out Something I can Never Have by NINE INCH NAILS...
In my opinion, one of Warrents best. RIP Jani. 🥺
Ah Alexis’s reaction to this is gold 🤘👌👍
Thanks Kris, I seriously LOVED this song and his voice. -Alexis
I like how the director of the video shot this in black & white except for the various shades of red - the roses, candles, and background lighting.
Hi Burch, I am not one that drop many comments but absolutely love your passion for the 80s rock and you have an awesome co-host, Alexis. I absolutely loved this one- Jani Lane is such an awesome singer and song writer. He never gets enough mention or credit so thank you for doing that justice. This song is another thing- so beautiful yet tragic when you listen in to the lyrics- only Jani can touch you like that. Hands down one of my favorite song writers in a genre that doesn't get enough appreciation
there wasnt another live band any better than Warrant in their prime..I saw them many many times...and everytime they were amazing. Jani was a great writer and performer.
100% the energy, musicianship and showmanship was exceptional. And Jani's voice live was amazing. Saw them open for Paul Stanley (solo tour) in 89. Blew us all away.
Always one of my favorites
Love your explanation of the meaning behind the song... it's always moved me, but seeing a new audience react like that is incredible. Love from New Zealand...
I remember when this video for I Saw Red got a lot of traction on MTV that the band released an acoustic version of the song with just Jani in video format that also did well on MTV. Those were great times. Check it out if you can find it.
THANK YOU THANK YOU Ilove tis song. I was a heavy Metaler in the 80s and 90s . You are right Jani didn't get praise he deserved
Me and a buddy went to several bars after a Warrant Show on the Dog eat Dog-Tour in Germany with Jani and Steven Sweet. Steven quit early to their Hotel, but Jani was drunk like crazy. Very Rockstar-ish. Back then for us that was larger than life. Today I wish Jani was still alive and got sober. I would gladly trade that experience as a 19-year-old starstruck dude, knowing he would have buried his demons. Great songwriter, amazing singer, great showman.
I wore out a cassette single of this, plying it in my car! A great band!
Great band live!!! Saw Warrant Trixter, Firehouse in az. One of my favorite shows ever
Still listen to this song. And been there, done that
R.I.P. Jani Lane! 😎🔥🤘🎸
My favorite Warrant song ever. RIP Jani. You were an amazing talent and are missed by millions.
Hell yea great reaction I'm super happy u guys did this one so so underrated song
you guys are touching all my feels today!!!!! it's great to see the younger generations discover great music from days gone by!!!! there's so many talented bands & songs that are out there, waiting for you to hear. I'm sure Burch will agree!!!!! I think you'd love Kansas "dust in the wind" amongst others. also Boston is great, as well. anyway, Thanks for everything guys!!!!
I always heard it was Jani finding his girl with Richie Sambora of Bon Jovi. I’m like wow, I respect both musicians, and I hope that their was healing at some point:)
Every time I met Jani, he was the most likable guy you could ever meet. He seemed genuinely interested in what I had to say. Such a great loss.
I haven't seen that vid for a while,..acoustic version is still my favorite i think. I'd have to hear it again. Hearing your comments on the vid,..knowing Jani isn't with us anymore,..i saw them play live twice. Made me tear up,..he was a really cool guy and i miss the band when i see this tune. Loved their music,..but the slow tune,..that's hard to swallow still
Heaven by Warrant! 😎🔥🤘🎸
Great reaction. I love Warrant!!! RIP Jani Lane❤️❤️
I was lucky enough to see Warrant several times, always amazing. So much great music after Cherry Pie that so many never paid attention to.
Such an integral part of my teen years. The relationship between one and the music was much deeper and meaningful.
I met him many years ago in a small little bar he used to go to from time to time in a little town called Barberton in Ohio he said he was from that area. Verry nice guy seamed sad at that point of his life . After haveing several conversations with him it was tragic when i heard of his passing.
You should introduce her to the new singer of Warrant. I love Jani too but the new guy needs some love and recognition.
Of course, it's like Todd with QR. You have to do the standards first though and then go into the newer stuff with the new singers. It's funny, I say new but but Robert has been there for 15 years. My god how time flies :)
Nooooooo
Anyone who has ever been cheated on knows exactly how this feels and knows that he’s does too. It’s so sad that so many of my heroes are dying, but I guess that’s just growing old. RIP Jani
I ❤this song . Rip Jani😢
This has to go down as one of the best ballads of all time
Alexis you are a really beautiful young lady. I'm glad you like our 80's and early 90's songs. Keep them coming. Jani was a great musician. RIP Jani!
