Today, a few hours ago 3/17/24 was declared Eric Monte Day in Stonecrest, GA (20 miles east of ATL). A special screening of Cooley High was held with a meet and greet with Eric Monte. Very humble and appreciative person. I pray be continues to receive more flowers and his family gets the financial restitution due to him.

Is it an interesting coincidence that each of the main characters “Preach” of “Cooley High”, “Roger” of “What’s Happening” & “JJ” of “Good Times” they all resemble him. I think he depicts himself through his characters.

What’s happening was supposed to be based on Cooley high. Rodger was preach at first. He was the first actor cast before anyone. Eric monte didn’t choose the actors though. Jimmy walker looking similar had nothing to do with it because they chose based on talent not looking like a writer of the show. He is co creator. Him and Michael evans who played Lionel from the Jefferson’s and all in the family

HUGE IRONY: a white man saying a black kid CAN'T be the Lone Ranger because he was "white". But the REAL LONE RANGER WAS INDEED AFRICAN-AMERICAN.

I’d posted the exact same comment, until I saw yours. A lot of people don’t know that The Lone Ranger was based on the life of Bass Reeves, a former slave who became the first Black U.S. Marshal west of the Mississippi. There is a new show about his life streaming on Paramount +. It’s called *The Lawmen: Bass Reeves.*

Dear Mr. Monte, your name is a euphemism for mountain. As a result men climbed your apex to recognise their own dreams. However, you are the earth that is necessarily required to give life. Try never to be bitter. Genius is seldom recognized in its own lifetime. Few men who understand singlular parts of life can be sucessful without first understanding who you truly are. You certainly understand " characters." It's a real shame no one saw it fit to explain to you that learning and having an education are designed to be separate. Good luck to you Sir. You gave me so many laughs growing up. More than the laughs you gave me hope. Thank you.

Can a movie be made of Eric Monte's life, depicting his NOW known creations and talents, including financial reparations? If he/or family are able to utilize, the funds, to make it available in form of a scholarship program for aspiring writers/ composers, producers of color. Nothing against Norman Lear per say, but he has received tons of recognition for a place in the television history, that is definitely not totally due to him. Times have changed- Let us Right (write) a True Wrong!

Of course Norman Lear is a thief.
I had mentioned to my friends about some of the lines. For example: When James moved Florida ( picked her up) from the front door. She said "didn't all the magazines say " that we (black women ) suppose to be the head of the house hold(I'm like really Norman Lear...W-T-F). Another line by JJ " if any people were lost is us". Good times Season 1, Episodes 1-2, JJ Jimmie Walker was smart. By time the 3rd or 4 episode his entire character changes even his voice. His character changes into a bafoon.

One of the things I've noticed about the black sitcoms that Norman Lear was a part of had Jewish writers in the later years of the series. If you're black, how can white Jewish writers were hired to write and produce scripts about the black experience? I can see why Mr. Monte has an axe to grind.

This is what has brought my Black People to our current situation, think about this for one minute; that we knew our true history, we would not be in the condition that we find ourselves in. History of the world is litter with stories like this. We must stop taking on the caricatures that they say we are. TMH says "that my people perish for a lack of knowledge ". Marcus Garvey said " a people that does not know it's history, is like a tree without roots. Rise up God's chosen People. Peace

Eric Monte screwed himself because of his own inexperience and greed. He wanted to own the show What's Happening. But very few get that privilege. It takes decades, regardless of your race, to get to a position where you can own the rights to a TV show. He worked as a TV writer for about 3 years or so, and wanted to reach a position that took Norman Lear and others decades to achieve. Eric should have been happy with the "created by" credit. That alone would have netted him millions for a hit show, and it's an amazing achievement for somebody that young and inexperienced (even that takes years to achieve). But he instead sued, and had to settle for $1 million. A third goes to the lawyers, and he squandered the rest from a drug addiction. He needs to own up to his mistakes and stop blaming others.

Finally, someone with the truth. Eric Monte's drug addiction destroyed his whole life.

So settle for being a millionaire slave? Cut it out. Let somebody take home 95% of your work. Stay offline with that bs logic. 2.5% off producers net?

My Dad said to me when I was a kid how black men always have it bad . Then we have a wife to add to the world of hurt. We don't get the respect from nothing or nobody😢 I hate for him.

I think that he makes a point to say that Spike Lee's productions or mediocre. I somewhat get what he means by that when it comes to film production quality but what individuals don't realize is that Spike Lee initially was doing things on shoestring budgets so yeah that was some mediocracy to some of his films and if you look at other black filmmakers like Gordon Parks or Marion Van Peebles Dad they did things that were low budget. Even some of the original b-boy and hip Hop Early movies were very mediocre in production in script writing and you know cinematography but they will always and I think he misses that point that these regardless of how mediocre they may be are our depictions of us. I think that when you work with major entertainment that there may be a sense of you know so called perfection however you know black producers and directors and writers when they are doing things on their own don't have the luxury of havingsystem you know so what would be mediocre to some because of where he had come from made your television you know so of course he's going to say it's mediocre what Spike Lee did however many of us beg to differ Spike Lee's movies on shoe string or less budgets made multi-millions so it had to make them look at Spike and at the end of the day Spike Lee had a boundaries for his lower desires.

Spike Lee, while an African American icon, he treated his dark skinned cast like second class citizens while their light skinned counterparts were treated much better.

Can't say Norman Lear was a Thief....He saw a opportunity and he took advantage of it...He bought them out....Producers hired those two guys Montae and Evans because they both had raw creative potential...both had great ideas..
