Where I used to work, I knew one guy who got roped into one of those penny auction MLMs. He just could not be convinced that it was a scam no matter what I said. He was rather religious, and he seemed very set on the idea that guy running this scheme wanted to help other people get wealthy out of some sense of Christian charity. I don't know what eventually happened, but he certainly didn't get rich.
So yeah, it's very impressive that Micheal actually listened and understood that he was being scammed instead of ignoring logic and digging the hole deeper.

Interestingly, if you keep adding to the pyramid, once you hit about 13 levels, it's physically impossible to keep it going because it would require more people than exist on the planet. Mathematical proof that pyramid schemes are unsustainable, no matter how long they last.

this is what always happens as these people are actors they know the script. They know what the other person will say and that is their cue to speak. Hope this helps.

No, it's a pyramid scheme. A pyramid scheme is when the main source of income is through recruiting people with no expectations of actually selling a real product. It's a legal MLM when the main source of income (80%+) is through the selling of a product.

And it's not wrong, hierarchies form naturally in a pyramid like structure. Profitability is another question, but the model is working, giving a small statistical chance of exponential earning. Working a regular job gives exactly 0% chance of unlimited income.

I do software development for a multi-level marketing company, it's awesome. I keep getting paid to build the same website over and over again for people lower and lower in the pyramid. Right now I'm at my 22nd website for these guys.
Of course it's the same site every time, but my boss bills these people like it's being built from scratch just for them.
At least he's not a level 5 susceptible.

I remember I did this exact thing Jim did to a co-worker who bought into a Pyramid scheme and was trying to recruit me sometime back in the late 90s. I remember seeing this episode for the first time and almost falling out of my chair.
I remeber my old house mates who were time share sales people wanted me to join some of there get rich quick scams. I would just laugh at them. the sad part is their whole family is still paying yearly dues on those time shares. At least with the Pyramid you only lose money once.
I imagine they didn’t respond the same way as Michael. Once people are in a pyramid scheme they rarely leave unless they decide to themselves.

Because an MLM is different than a pyramid scheme. One has products to sell which are viable such as cosmetics where people can buy them and continue to buy them. A pyramid scheme only exists through recruitment of new members

Ryan Barham No, it’s not because first of all, pyramids are illegal and get shut down in their beginning and Amway has been going for 50 years close to 51. In a pyramid them employee will never make enough money as the boss. In Amway, there are no bosses. There are uplines which aren’t bosses because they don’t tell the people they recruit when to work and they don’t pay them and they don’t tell them they have to do anything and the recruits can always make more than the uplines.
So great! Love it in the real work space when the underlings keep asking practical questions and the boss gets annoyed because the boss realizes the employees are smarter than him/her.

I'd recommend you a subreddit r/antiMLM which includes more about all MLM companies and also a list of companies known to be MLMs aka pyramid schemes
