  • This time on SPPTV we are back at RFG and Rob's Turbo 5.3 LS S-10 Project continues to come back together! The front end and engine bay are finished, minus a few finishing touches including brake lines. It is time to prepare the $300 Junkyard 5.3 L33 all aluminum factory GM race engine.
    Rebuilding a set of cylinder heads does not cost that much, at least if you follow the RFG junkyard engine procedure! Most people upgrade valve springs at the same time they add a performance camshaft. Rob found a great deal online for some Trick Flow valve springs that are re-branded PAC springs.
    The heads are cleaned and prepped, and threads for a mechanical coolant temperature gauge are tapped on the previously plugged passenger side head. All of this work is fairly straight forward, and worth while to do when your heads are off the engine.
    Next episode the cylinder heads are installed with everyone's favorite torque wrench! Subscribe now to get notifications when new videos come out!
    Thanks for watching! And a special thanks goes out to Dave for the generous support! Drop a LIKE if you enjoyed!

    cringing former machine shop guy here. chucking valves in a drill is fine for the home gamer, but the stems should be greased first. s10 is looking good👍

    Love your channel. One suggestion, dab some high pressure grease on the valve stems before spinning them up. Those high mileage heads need every bit of bronze or whatever material the guides are made of left. I was just always told to do that when lapping valves. Stay warm guys!

      The stems were oiled up. No galling occurred

    I lap my valves the same way. Never had an issue. The suction cup tool takes forever.

    The pitting on the valves comes from the shiny fuel they sell us. That’s what leaded fuel help prevent

      Happens to the best of us man I can relate. I'm sure it being the "off" season doesn't help. I think I speak for us all when I say we're not going anywhere. Will continue to enjoy the content as it comes out, when it comes out.

    What is the best head for the LS1 on a rebuilt is it better to just Port polish on heads or is it better to use a LS6 heads

    • @SPPTVarmy
      @SPPTVarmy  5 років тому

      The 799 or 243 heads are basically the same as ls6 heads with different valves. They are good heads.

    An alternative method for removing bolts from an aluminum head is to use alum. Here's a vidjeo from AvE; everybody's favorite Uncle Bumblefuck: ua-cam.com/video/fqZYgReuywM/v-deo.html
